Ok, everyone here seems to have the same view and that’s great. I’m glad everyone is free to have their views. I’m definitely not going to be able to defend anything well enough or convince anyone of anything. I do think it would be cool to get more views than just the one hive mind view, a little diversity might help things if you will. But I’ll see myself out.

Ah yes, we need more people who think, "Lulz, saying anonymous racist shit on the internet is hilarious and should be consequence free."

Yet another poster moseys in over here, talks out of his ass, gets corrected, can't/won't answer a simple question, and then runs the fuck off.

Had a conversation with a friend yesterday.  She is a PT at the VA.  I said yeah. I voted for Trump and I really didn't expect shit to get this crazy.  I am sick to my stomach when I see all the crazy shit happening.  I dont disagree with certain things but the way it is happening is absolutely insane.

If you didn't want this but voted for it anyway, you were clearly not paying attention during the campaign or you were flat-out conned.

Your responsibility now is to make amends and go help out the people you hurt with that vote.

I'll probably get deported

Tens of millions of people believe this is what is happening right now.

Feel free to post any evidence of corruption that they have found. So far all I have seen is that they think USAID subscribing to multiple news outlets is somehow wrong, because they don't seem to understand that big companies tend to subscribe to lots of services so their employees have access.

Well ya, you have to defend with actual evidence and trump supporters have nothing but emotional arguments. If you post actual data and evidence to back your stance, you will not see a “hive mind”.

In the arc of the visit of the typical dumbass Trumper to the CR, this is always the last post.  They usually start by "just asking questions" or maybe even "coming in hot" with their interpretation of the LATEST FROM OAN AND FACEBOOK!!!!!.  Then a bit of argument.  Some negs here and there.  Then they show themselves out.  Like the kind and polite people they are.

I was talking to my stepmother this evening.  She's 87.  She said she's appalled by what's going on and that a lot of people don't like Trump and think he's bad (34 convictions and 4 indictments will do that).  Elon is firing 10,000 people who draw a paycheck but don't work!! She learned this on Facebook.

Tell me, KPW, is this your frame of reference?

Does some fake thing said under a fake account when you are 16 define who you are? Even if he is a racist, which I doubt, if he is keeping his personal opinions to himself should he be judged by his work? Is he doing a good job? Is he working well with his team? Do those things matter?

Do people not want corruption and waste to be eliminated?

Not like this.  Not by them.  Not by Trump.  Any "corruption" he accidentally eliminates, he will more than make up for, personally.

That’s because you don’t give us a reason to. If you don’t give anyone a reason to believe you, they have no reason to believe you, and not having a reason to believe you is literally the best reason not to believe you.

But yeah, see yourself out if you must. Venture over to the Daily Texan and the bastion of intellectual diversity that it is. Contrary to popular rumors, it is not the fucking cesspool of utter bullshit people say it is. And certainly no hive mind going on there.

In the meantime I’d like to announce to the group that our next secret meeting is at my man cave.

Personally, I fucking welcome your presence so that, hopefully, you'll be able to defend the shit you say and, then, we can have a gotdam conversation over, you know, facts, reality, or the color of the sky. Maybe actually try to "convince anyone of anything."

Why not?

Could it be because you haven't really thought about it very much and just swallowed the propaganda whole?

You didn't do your own research?

Let's just take an example of this.  These people are rooting around in the treasury, freezing payments to everyone, because some of them are "fraudulent" or "not in compliance with law."  Whatever the fuck that means.

In this particular instance, Treasury is like the payroll and A/R A/P department at your work.  They pay the bills other departments approve.

If payments are "not in compliance with law," you look to the people that authorized the payment, not the ones who cut the checks.  This is like going to accounting and lighting all the checkbooks on fire because you don't like the way the company is spending money.  Or you think certain people should be fired.

They have these inexperienced code-monkey savants that don't know shit rooting around in private data, fucking up people's lives and livelihoods, and compromising the security of US government IT systems.

It's maybe not the same thing going on everywhere, but it's exemplary of the stupidity that's going on here.  Do you really think any of this is any better thought through?

This maga idea that whatever Trump says and is parrotted to them over and over by fox and oan is gospel and anything that is very blatantly happening to their very own maga voters is false...that's the new wtf to me. Farmers have very clearly been hurt by these recent actions. Law enforcement have been very clearly hurt by these recent actions. Hell the gd church has been hurt by these recent actions. They bury their heads to that and continue to parrot whatever they are told. One day it will impact them and they will blame anyone but their God. It is insane to have a leader that you wear on your chest and fly flags for over the American flag, but to absolutely ignore the obvious pain he is inflicting on your very own people is just pure mental illness. Good luck people.

Opinions are beliefs, and they’re a particular kind of belief. They are beliefs that have never and can never be proven true or false.

”Blue is the best color.” That’s an opinion, and whoever holds it will never be proven wrong or right about it.

”Steak is better than shrimp.” That’s an opinion

”Donald Trump is a good president.” That’s provably false nonsense. To be a good president means you actually succeed in living up to measurable criteria vis a vis policy implementation.

So did he ever do anything to help improve economic conditions for the middle and lower classes? Well he tried an opening wave of tariffs which were well on their way to leading the country to a recession before the pandemic bailed him out, he cut taxes for very wealthy people only, and he’s also seeking to disrupt supply chains and just general productivity with this mass deportation insanity. No, he objectively is horrendous for the economy…and that was just his first term (except the mass deportation stuff). He’s threatening to expand tariffs and cut taxes even further for billionaires as if those powdered sissies don’t have enough going for them as it is already.

Did he ever do anything to improve situations around the globe? He withdrew the US from the Iran deal, he withdrew the US from the Paris agreement, he seeks to turn Gaza into another one of his chickenshit little resorts, he turns a blind eye to Putin’s war crimes, he’s threatening to use the US military to outright capture certain areas (other than Gaza of course). Shall I fucking continue?

Domestically, he nominated 3 extremist Supreme Court justices that cared only about stripping away reproductive rights and essentially nothing else, he is threatening to terminate the department of education, his minions in congress are trying to set up a situation where fucking OSHA disappears. He just signed an executive order that bars transgender females from competing in women’s sports. Of the some 500,000 athletes in the NCAA, that order affects…fewer than 10 people. There’s a word for shit like that in legal parlance and the lawyers here will be familiar with it: dilatory. And oh boy, does Trump ever live and love to be dilatory in every fucking thing he does.

By the way, none of the things I just said had anything to do with all the criminal activity for which he was investigated/indicted/convicted. None of what I said mentioned anything about January 6th. None of what I said mentioned anything about absconding with classified documents and stuffing them in a fucking bathroom. None of what I said mentioned anything about interfering in the 2016 election via hush money payments that were concealed in business records. None of what I said has anything to do with the fact that he conspired with people so that they could pose as electors for the purposes of subverting the 2020 election by overturning the popular will of 7 different states. None of what I said previously even mentioned any of that shit, and he did all of that as POTUS or as a candidate of same.

If one still believes that the individual described above is a “good president,” one is a kool aid drinking cult member. They are fucking wrong as it is possible to be, and there’s not a goddamned thing they can do about it. All these emotional protestations, even when combined into one, have all the intellectual force of a flea trying to push a one-ton boulder up a hill. It’s fucking hilarious to watch them try, though. They actually think they’re doing well.

MAGA would be losing their minds (again) if Dems put recent grads as moles/operatives into Gov't agencies, treated our largest trade partners as fodder for the Supreme leaders ego, and put Dem oligarchs into high level positions. But you just go ahead and convince yourself that this is just normal, and these people won't harm the rank & file citizens.

Still, though, "Trump is a good president" remains an opinion.  An objectively bad opinion, but an opinion nonetheless.

It's funny, as law dogs, we encounter "questions of fact" and "questions of law," which correspond mostly to "facts" and "opinions."  This is an important question to law dogs, because as a general rule, courts of appeal can reverse or undo questions of law, but can't touch questions of fact.

Something quite similar comes into play in defamation law, where statements of opinion by and large can't be defamatory, while statements of false or incorrect fact can be.

At first blush, what is fact and what is law, or, similarly, fact and opinion, seems quite straightforward.  But law dogs soon learn it is not.  One legal talent is the ability to recast matters factual into matters of opinion or law, and vice-versa.

None of this really matters when it comes to the Trump cult, who are wrong on actual facts most of the time, as well as holding objectively and subjectively horrible opinions.  Just pointing out the rhetorical trap that fact vs. opinion holds for most.

A rather perfect analogy for Trump and Elmo here is Chainsaw Al Dunlap.  Apparently remarkably skilled at downsizing an operation, also at accounting fraud.

I suspect the results of this operation, if it continues to be "successful," will be similar to those obtained by Chainsaw Al.  Bankruptcy.

I mean shit, look at Elmo's work at Twatter.

You’re talking about the legal concept of an opinion, which is different than the layman’s concept of an opinion, which is, to repeat, a belief that cannot be proven true or false.

And that distinction needs to be made because people of the general MAGA ilk hide behind that. You see this whenever they say “it’s a matter of opinion! You can’t attack me for having an opinion!”

There’s a kernel of truth to that. I can’t tell you that you’re wrong for saying blue is the best color or steak is better than shrimp. I can’t justifiably attack you for saying that. It’s a matter of belief that cannot be proven true or false.

The trump issue, on the other hand, does not fall into that category. The maga crowd claims that it is, and they do so to specifically to hide behind it so as to not face up to the reality that they, with the burden totally on them to demonstrate why trump is a good president, cannot for the life of them live up to that burden. So they shift that burden by saying it’s a “matter of opinion.” It’s a total bullshit cop out.

Or to put it another way, think of all of the MAGA morons you know or know of and consider this: hardly any of them (if any) has the balls to debate these issues against anyone even of a mediocre intellect (forget elite) in public.

That tells you everything you need to know. When I do politics, I have only one standard: can I or can’t I defend what I’m saying in public?

If I can’t defend what I’m saying in public, then what the fuck am I even doing? And when honest people get to that precise point, it’s the point where they make the decision to rebuke their previously held position.

When dishonest people get to the point where they realize they can’t defend their position in public, they go into fucking hiding and at best engage in circle jerks. Again, see Texan, Daily. That’s exactly what that fuckin place is. It’s a place where people who routinely got their asses handed to them as far back as the first Trump term and do not have the honesty/balls to admit they were dead fucking wrong, but they do have the honesty to admit they cannot defend their positions in public. So they fuck off to DT (or wherever it is they go) and project when they accuse CR of being an “echo chamber.” In other words, they believe what they believe because they want to believe it, and any contradiction to those beliefs are a big huge conspiracy against them.
