However, the Social Security Administration automatically stops payments to people who are older than 115 years old, an agency rule that has been in effect since September 2015.

Quote

Social Security and COBOL

Part of the confusion comes from Social Security's software system based on the COBOL programming language, which has a lack of date type. This means that some entries with missing or incomplete birth dates will default to a reference point of more than 150 years ago.

The news organization WIRED first reported on the agency's use of COBOL, a programming language which is more than 60 years old.

Additionally, a series of reports from the Social Security Administration's inspector general in March 2023 and July 2024 state that the agency has not established a new system to properly annotate death information in its database, which included roughly 18.9 million Social Security numbers of people born in 1920 or earlier but were not marked as deceased. This does not mean, however, that these individuals were receiving benefits.

The agency decided not to update the database because of the cost to do so, which would run upward of $9 million.

So Musk, with his super genius 19-25 yr olds couldn't figure out there was a software issue at hand, because they don't actually know that language, but decided to interpret it anyways.   They could have been handed a memo in sanskrit and they would have just made up whatever the fuck they wanted, because they are too arrogant and too ignorant to fucking know their limitations.   I am so disappointed in "big balls."

Speaking of, how much more mileage can they get out of these two causes?  I gotta figure there are a few new things that Team MAGA are workshopping for the 2025-26 election cycles.

It turns out none of the “receipts are real. From the NYT:

DOGE Quietly Deletes the 5 Biggest Spending Cuts It Celebrated Last Week

The cuts, highlighted on an earlier version of the “wall of receipts” posted by Elon Musk’s team, contained mistakes that vastly inflated the amount of money saved.

These were the original five largest savings on its list:

  • An $8 billion cut at Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The actual contract in question was worth $8 million. The mistake seemed to stem from an earlier, erroneous entry in a federal contracting database. But contracting experts said that the service should have known better: ICE’s entire budget is about $8 billion, making it implausible that one contract could be so large. The U.S. DOGE Service adjusted the figure on the site after The Times wrote about it, and said in a post on Mr. Musk’s X platform that it had “always used the correct $8M in its calculations.”

  • Three $655 million cuts at the U.S. Agency for International Development. This was actually a single cut that was erroneously counted three times, as first reported by CBS News. That mistake also seemed to reflect a misunderstanding of the way government contracts work; they sometimes have “ceiling values” far in excess of what will be spent. Experts said this cancellation was unlikely to produce anything close to $655 million in savings even once. Now, the site lists a much smaller savings for these three cancellations: $18 million in total.

  • $232 million cut at the Social Security Administration. Here, Mr. Musk’s organization appeared to have mistakenly believed that the agency had canceled a huge information technology contract with the defense contracting giant Leidos. Instead, as reported by The Intercept, it had canceled only a tiny piece of it: a $560,000 project to let users mark their gender as “X.” The DOGE site now shows that small cut instead.

Some of the new canceled contracts added this week appear to make some of the same types of errors.

The largest savings on the latest version of its list is a $1.9 billion cut at the Treasury Department. But The Times reported last week that this contract was canceled last fall, when Joseph R. Biden Jr. was president — and when DOGE did not yet exist.

So all this crap for 27 million in cuts? Lolololol. Thats not even 1/3rd of an F-35

There needs to be an accounting for how much they’ve spent to achieve these amazing targets. I’m guessing we’re approaching net zero or net negative in total “efficiency.”

Big target for Dems. They’re sure to miss.

Let me get this straight, and correct me if I get it wrong. The guy that has remora-ed  himself to the President is telling everyone that the agency with a not too bad track record for safety is under extreme distress and only his product can save it? And he's offering it up like a late night info-mercial with the fine print no where to be seen? A product that may or may not be a little sus for foreign intervention and national security?

Something seems a little ratchet with this dude. Pass. Hard hard pass.

(Narrator: of course this Starlink contract is going to happen.)

This slow drip Bond villain shit is crazy.

The American public is checked out and we got 1 dude firing 200,000 ppl, gutting our safety, enriching himself, ending democracy, and propping up a vain and vengeful tabloid / reality TV dictator.

That shit would be rejected as a screenplay bc it sounds ridiculous.

Man, ain't that the running theme?

If 10 years ago, you had submitted the completely true, entirely factual events of a SINGLE DAY of this administration to a producer...you'd not just be laughed out of the room, security would be called because any sane person would conclude that you were seriously mentally ill, drug-addled, or both.

Shit, 8 years ago, I predicted just SOME of this shit in more general terms, and most folks around here said I was paranoid and crazy (which, objectively, was an understandable take -- truly, it's hard for sane people to believe this shit is actually coming to pass).  Yet....here we are.

The fantastical, preposterous, fever dream shit.....is 100% aligned with actual reality, every fucking day.  Oh, and half our country thinks it's awesome.

We live in hell.

With essentially zero resistance it seems. I mean, I've seen Hakeem Jeffries on tv a few times yawning his way through some objections, but that's about it. We should have organized, massive protests every day at this point.

This sounds like the setup for a sequel to Die Hard 2 where the criminal mastermind (and I use that term loosely here ...) is able to infiltrate national flight control systems and ends up crashing airliners at every airport in the country.  I mean, what could go wrong?

I think most Dems are burned out after the election they just don't have in them right now.  Basically they came out of the trenches and said "who's with me?" and no one would turn out for Kamala.  The cowards in the back (Republicans) will have to realize they have to join or die.  Then you'll see a movement.

I have the beginning of a theory in re-organizing the Dem party and I think it needs, particularly in the short-term, to mirror the GOP in institutional skepticism.

One reason you don’t see a movement yet is that no one has come up with a message or an idea that appears persuasive enough to garner popular support.

Here's what I think is a major issue: the differences between farmers and miners.

A miner just takes what they want and moves on.  Once the mine is played out they find a new one.  Fast money, no matter the destruction.

A farmer knows that if he destroys or erodes or exhausts or poisons his land or uses he seed crop he's dead.  So he has to nurture his assets.

I'm sure you can guess who's who.  But there's a famine coming first.

Now Elon is taking a big government contract from his competitors, blaming them for problems he himself caused in the FAA.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/elon-musk-slams-verizon-s-tech-pushes-for-faa-to-adopt-starlink/ar-AA1zVEUm

Quote

Musk today slammed Verizon's technology after The Washington Post reported that the FAA is "close to canceling" a $2.4 billion contract for Verizon to upgrade the agency's communication networks.

"To be clear here, the Verizon communication system to air traffic control is breaking down very rapidly. The FAA assessment is single digit months to catastrophic failure, putting air traveler safety at serious risk,” Musk tweeted, without offering direct evidence.

The SpaceX CEO then commented on how the FAA is reportedly receiving 4,000 Starlink dishes with the goal of installing them within a year at various sites. “The Starlink terminals are being sent at NO COST to the taxpayer on an emergency basis to restore air traffic control connectivity,” Musk said. “The situation is extremely dire.”

Yeah so...just so happens that the company YOU are CEO of is going to save the day huh? Thanks to the crisis you created by bribing the President? This is the most nakedly corrupt thing I have ever seen.
