nsiap ... More great work here from the totally radical, awesome DOGE bros, ferretting out dead social security recipients who aren't actually dead at all.

Here’s a ‘dead’ person on Social Security in Seattle, with plenty to say    https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/heres-a-dead-person-on-social-security-in-seattle-with-plenty-to-say/

Several weeks ago, I mentioned I had a request for additional staff and infrastructure to meet a federal customer's mission to meet some OMB requirements based on an executive order issued under the Biden administration. I sat on the request assuming it would get DOGED.

Last Friday, I was informed that this agency wouldn't be following through with their contract due to the current "political environment". I ended up jumping on a call on Friday to fire the customer. I've never done that for any government entity before, not even some poor ass southern state.

I find it quite nice actually.   Odds are he voted for this shit.  If he didn't it sucks to be him.  But I hope every person drawing SS has to go through steps to prove they are real, alive, citizens, and have old paychecks to prove they paid in.

Odds are, despite his age, that he didn't vote for this shit. He lives in Seattle, where Trump has managed to get 1 vote out of every 11 cast, in all 3 elections, at around 90% turnout.  So, while he fits the demographic most likely to be that 1 of 11, odds remain high that he didn't.

The Leopards Eating People's Faces Party has very little support here. Nonetheless, they're still feasting.

And I hope anyone who supports this has to deal with SS for eternity on behalf of a parent with dementia. With an SS that won't take your call or allow you to start on online account of behalf of said parent.

I had considered that, but in general this type of shit happening to Florida would be preferable.

SS can be a PITA when they were staffed, visiting in person, and with my kid who, while visibly running around, was not surefire proof enough that he survived birth.   Sorry you are catching strays on here, but the more this shit happens, maybe more the people will demand we elect competent people not TV personalities, criminals, conmen, and Nazi's.

Remember when doge reversed their decision to cut SS customer service access to the Infirmed and elderly? Well, they didn’t mean it:

https://popular.info/p/exclusive-memo-details-trump-plan

An internal Social Security Administration (SSA) memo, sent on March 13 and obtained by Popular Information, details proposed changes to the claims process that would debilitate the agency, cause significant processing delays, and prevent many Americans from applying for or receiving benefits.

The memo, authored by Acting Deputy SSA Commissioner Doris Diaz, purports to be motivated by a desire to mitigate "fraud risks."

The biggest change contemplated by Diaz's memo is to require "internet identity proofing" for "benefit claims… made over the phone." When an SSA customer is "unable to utilize the internet ID proofing, customers will be required to visit a field office to provide in-person identity documentation."

https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.ama

Currently customers can make claims and verify their identity without using the internet or visiting a SSA office. Fraud is extremely rare because there are many safeguards in place. After initiating a call, customers must provide their social security number, date of birth, parents' names, mother's maiden name, and date of birth. After the initial teleapplication is completed, the information provided is checked against tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, and medical information, depending on the nature of the claim. If there are any discrepancies, a customer may need to mail a copy of their birth certificate to the SSA. About 40% of all claims are currently processed over the phone.

Because the SSA serves a large population that is either older or physically disabled, many cannot access the internet. Under the new system, this would force these populations to visit an office to have their claim processed. The Diaz memo estimates it would require 75,000 to 85,000 in-person visitors per week to SSA's offices to implement the policy.

https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.ama

SSA offices do not currently have the resources to handle an influx of in-person appointments of this size. In 2023, the most recent data available, there were about 119,128 daily visits, on average, to SSA offices. Eight-five thousand more week visits would be a 14% increase. SSA offices no longer accept walk-ins and the wait time for an appointment, even before these changes, averaged over a month.

This is a major pain in the ass that I went through with my daughter 14 years ago. They never issued an SSN for similar reasons then my health insurance company was demanding a SSN for infant coverage. Total fucking clown show.

I can't imagine having to jump through those hoops again with the current state of things.

This was old news, but it's back:

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/noaas-storm-prediction-center-facility-planned-doge-cuts/story?id=119882272

Quote

Despite the deadly storms over the weekend, one of the core government facilities tracking severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, is listed on the website of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency as one with a planned office closure.

The Storm Prediction Center -- one of several entities housed at the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma -- issues severe weather forecasts across the nation and identifies threat zones where dangerous thunderstorms and tornadoes could move through days in advance.

Quote

A spokesperson with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration -- the federal agency that studies and reports on the oceans, atmosphere and coasts as well as oversees the Storm Prediction Center as well as the National Weather Service -- confirmed that the "building lease issue is in flux."

With this latest storm, the Storm Prediction Center began alerting about a potential significant severe weather event across parts of the Midwest and South several days ahead of the first tornadoes. The center also tracks which parts of the country could face critical to extreme fire weather conditions -- as Oklahoma, where the center is located, remains under alert for fire danger after being devastated by deadly blazes over the weekend.

Quote

Republican Rep. Tom Cole claims that he intervened and that the center in Norman will not lose its lease.

"I am so proud to have advocated for them. As the Representative for Oklahoma's Fourth District, I will always fight for Oklahomans and my constituents!" Cole wrote in a release last week.

But the building is still listed, along with hundreds of others, as a target of DOGE's cuts.

ABC News has reached out to the White House for comment.

Spoiler

When the General Services Administration briefly listed office leases it planned to terminate a few weeks ago, the NOAA locations sent shockwaves through the scientific community especially with tornado season (and hurricane season) coming up.

The Norman facility has, according to local outlets, been impacted by some staffing cuts.

Online the center boasts of some 500 scientists, engineers, meteorologists and climatologists from NOAA, the University of Oklahoma and state agencies. It specializes in storm prediction and advancing radar technology.

"We serve as a national resource for severe weather research and work collaboratively with the National Weather Service to ensure that their forecasters have the knowledge, capabilities, and technologies to remain world leaders in effectively communicating accurate, timely, and actionable forecasts and warnings of extreme weather to the public and commerce," their mission statement reads.

ABC News has reached out to local Oklahoma lawmakers for comment, but hasn't heard back by the time of publication.

Oh man, our ol' boy @Earl Haffler had better hope the regime doesn't cut this program (https://www.nadtc.org/). Otherwise, how the hell is he supposed to get his checks all the way up in Nacogdoches?
