Technically, just a subspecies of the greater prairie chicken, which is itself highly endangered, as are nearly all grassland birds in the country. But that should make it even easier for the administration to wave off any criticism about this. Nevermind that there were once 2 million of them in the state, and now they're a shadow of a shadow of what they once were.

But those goddamn freeloading biologists who live on site and make next to nothing to protect the refuge are practically stealing taxpayer dollars!!!

I have a friend who spent a year there. He sounds heartbroken, as I imagine virtually every NPS worker across the entire country is these days.

It is a beautiful prairie. I've been several times, never on a guided tour. Seen the prairie chicken once. But they are just part of an underappreciated landscape.

But see....what you need to understand is....Ronald Reagan was a cuck libtard.

Seriously.  If you just submitted his statements/speeches to the current Fox News crowd, they would at a near-100% rate say "fuck that cuck libtard."  That is the timeline we live in.  And many of us will die in, and right soon.

I guess I need this explained to me. The article is short on details.

How exactly?

Yeah, I expect better from Rachel.  Delaying receipts (what I would expect is the reality) is not the same as "more or less light[ing $] on fire."  That piece from TPM / Josh Marshall seems to be just inflammatory dogshit that should not be passed along at face value.

Thought the same.  There is a link to the actual article on Wapo.  It’s paywalled though

Actually tracked down a recap on CNBC (https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/24/tax-revenue-collected-by-the-irs-set-to-plummet-report-says.html😞

Quote

Officials at the IRS and Treasury Department are anticipating tax revenue to drop more than 10% by April 15 compared with last year, The Washington Post reported Saturday, citing three people with knowledge of the situation.

The loss of tax receipts is expected as more individuals and businesses don’t file taxes or attempt to avoid paying balances owed to the IRS. The amount of lost federal revenue could top $500 billion, the paper said.

Officials said the prediction is directly linked to shifting taxpayer behavior and President Donald Trump’s cuts at the IRS, the Post said.

Thousands are expected to lose their jobs at the agency as part of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency spending reductions. Experts have warned that the cuts during tax season could materially impact filers.

The IRS has also noted increased chatter online from people saying they won’t pay taxes this year or will make aggressive claims they aren’t eligible for in a gamble that they won’t be audited, the Post reported.

The Treasury Department told the paper the story was “sensational and baseless” and said the anonymous sources “should be dismissed out of hand.”

So maybe not complete bullshit, but I'm skeptical that people would be this aggressive with their taxes - perhaps I'm just being naive, though.

I will say that I'm planning to file for an extension next month because there's no telling what's going to happen over the next several months.

LA County residents already got an automatic extension to 10/15 due to the wildfires, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

Yeah, my wife flat-out said "we're filing for an extension, because why would we pay taxes [we do/will owe a little bit] to a country that may not even exist in a few months."  Couldn't argue with her reasoning.

Social Security rushing service cuts at White House request, sources say

Quote

The Social Security Administration is rushing cuts to phone services at the White House's request, the agency's acting commissioner told Social Security advocates in a meeting on Monday, two sources who attended tell Axios.

Why it matters: These changes will strain the already strugglingSocial Security system and deprive some people of benefits entirely, according to current and former employees and advocates for retirees.

Quote

Driving the news: Acting commissioner Leland Dudek said the changes in question would usually take two years to implement, but will be made in two weeks instead, the two sources said on condition of anonymity due to fears of retaliation.

Dudek also said the changes, happening so fast and with little public understanding, will create opportunities for scammers, one of the sources said.

There will be individuals who will be victims of fraud as a result of the changes, Dudek said, according to one attendee. He said in the past Social Security had been too "thoughtful" in considering beneficiaries before making changes.

Quote

For the record: A White House official said it was moving quickly to root out "waste, fraud and abuse" at Social Security, and that no one would be denied their lawful benefits.

FEMA has been very present, but not sure how much has been distributed.  The problem is FEMA wants you to collect everything that you can from you insurance (which is fair) before submitting a claim for reimbursement.  Most insurance companies have been PAINFULLY slow to respond, with my insurer, the California Fair Plan, being the worst of them all.  So until all payouts have been made, FEMA won't step in.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986—signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986—granted amnesty to about 3 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

More info on Mr. "Big Balls". Hint, he has no business getting any clearance to touch American government IT systems

Quote
In 2023, EGodly boasted on its Telegram channel of hijacking phone numbers, breaking into unspecified law enforcement email accounts in Latin America and Eastern Europe, and cryptocurrency theft. Early that year, the group distributed the personal details of an FBI agent who they said was investigating them, circulating his phone number, photographs of his house, and other private details on Telegram.
EGodly also posted an audio recording of an obscene prank call made to the agent's phone and a video, shot from the inside of a car, of an unknown party driving by the agent's house in Wilmington, Delaware at night and screaming out the window, "EGodly says you're a bitch!"

....

The FBI agent targeted by EGodly, who is now retired, told Reuters that the group had drawn law enforcement attention because of its connection to swatting, the dangerous practice of making hoax emergency calls to send armed officers swarming targeted addresses. The agent didn't go into detail. Reuters is not identifying him out of concern for further harassment.
"These are bad folks," the former agent said. "They're not a pleasant group."

The brain drain looks to be unavoidable.

The massive changes in US research brought about by the new administration of President Donald Trump are causing many scientists in the country to rethink their lives and careers. More than 1,200 scientists who responded to a Nature poll — three-quarters of the total respondents — are considering leaving the United States following the disruptions prompted by Trump. Europe and Canada were among the top choices for relocation.

I just posted a video of an interview.

I support reducing redundancy in government bureaucracy and the updating and enhanced interoperability of government IT healthcare and beneficiary systems. It was not too long removed that the pre-ledge poster known as brisketexan would have supported the same.

Completely nonresponsive, as usual.

What about what he’s actually DOING, most of which is NOT what you listed.

What you just said is like responding to a question of “do you think Tom Herman was a good coach” with “I support a regular supply of hydration for athletes, I thought you would too.”

The dumbest thing is that you think your non-response is clever. You’re literally the only person who does.

You are just projecting brisket. I posted a video. You can easily respond to the specifics of the content of that video. Or you can strawman. Gee I wonder which path you will take.

The brisket of 2010 would have been all in the talking points in that video.

The brisket of 2025 just hopes that others stand in puddles of blood because he has gone full blown lunatic.

I didn’t ask what you think of the video.
I asked what you think of what he’s ACTUALLY DOING. Because…and I know this comes as no shock to you, someone who knows that officials regularly lie…what he SAYS, and principles he cites…do not match what he’s actually DOING.
Words are just words. They are less than meaningless. Actions. Across the board. What do you think of THOSE?
