Meanwhile Hollywood cranks out hero movies where we all pretend the good guy wins after socking it to the bad guys. Any day now, the government is going to start reversing this scenario because Hollywood is clearly woke and needs to put out more Rambo teaming up with doge as the former evil police department and musk as the sheriff, that now rounds up brown people into detainment centers. Part II will be Rambo and Putin dropped into the Ukraine to destroy it and return it back to Russia. III will be released relative to dotards 3 consecutive term because evil never dies, and will just be live stomping puppies.

Can someone post the perp walk photos from all the people who have been caught doing fraud? I have looked online and can’t seem to find any.

Maybe my search is badly worded?

members of the DOGE team asked that their activities not be logged on the system and then appeared to try to cover their tracks behind them, turning off monitoring tools and manually deleting records of their access — evasive behavior that several cybersecurity experts interviewed by NPR compared to what criminal or state-sponsored hackers might do.

I'm confused by this argument.

So DOGE, an agency under the purview of the executive branch, is getting access to data from the Social Security Administration, another agency under the purview of the executive branch.

Would there be some reason why executive branch agencies should segregate?  Seems inefficient...

Hey, so on that deal about DOGE fucking stealing the data of millions of Americans.....where are all of the good Republicans who have been screaming about "the DEEP STATE!" for all these years?  Aren't we supposed to be opposed to that?  Isn't that a threat we should fight against tooth-and-nail?  Because I gotta tell ya, you super-duper freedom warriors are falling the FUCK down on the job:

Quote

The new revelations about DOGE's activities at the labor agency come from a whistleblower in the IT department of the NLRB, who disclosed his concerns to Congress and the U.S. Office of Special Counsel in a detailed report that was then provided to NPR. Meanwhile, his attempts to raise concerns internally within the NLRB preceded someone "physically taping a threatening note" to his door that included sensitive personal information and overhead photos of him walking his dog that appeared to be taken with a drone, according to a cover letter attached to his disclosure filed by his attorney, Andrew Bakaj of the nonprofit Whistleblower Aid.

Where are you guys?  You super libertarian types.....why so quiet?

This seems like kind of a big deal: https://www.mediaite.com/tv/whistleblower-accuses-doge-of-letting-russians-access-government-accounts-in-shocking-security-breach/

Whistleblower Accuses DOGE of Letting Russians Access Government Accounts in Shocking Security Breach

Quote

A whistleblower’s attorney made shocking allegations regarding a DOGE security breach at the National Labor Relations Board during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier on Tuesday, news broke that a relatively new NLRB staffer claimed that DOGE not only accessed data from his agency but also took a substantial amount of sensitive data with them, according to a disclosure shared with Congress that read, “around ten gigabytes of data are, quote, the equivalent of a full stack of encyclopedias worth if someone printed these files as hard copy documents.”

Daniel Bertulis appeared on The Lead, joined by his attorney Andrew Bakaj, and explained the details of how he apparently uncovered a massive amount of missing data from the NLRB following DOGE’s efforts. He ostensibly mocked a White House statement touting the transparency at play, noting that none of the code used by DOGE technicians has been shared publicly.

But the most shocking allegations came from Bakaj, who not only claimed that accounts based in Russia were using newly created DOGE usernames and passwords to access sensitive data, but also directly tied the effort to Elon Musk and his Starlink concerns, which has a relationship with the Kremlin.

“There are two data points that I wanna point out that should give everybody pause,” Bakaj said. “The first thing, what Dan witnessed was that within 15 minutes of DOGE employees creating user accounts, i.e. Usernames and passwords, within 15 minutes of those accounts being created, somebody or something from Russia tried to log in with the right username and right passwords — that is to say — the right credentials. And that happened over 20 times.”

“The second data point, which is really critical, is that DOGE has also been using Starlink as a means to exfiltrate data,” he continued. “What that means is that, from our understanding, Russia has a direct pipeline of information through Starlink, which means that anything going through Starlink is going to Russia.”

“We also know that this is not unique to the NLRB,” he said. “This is happening government-wide. And then the other thing that I wanted to flag for everybody is that right now that, I don’t want to say that this is intentional, it could very well have been a mistake, is that critical infrastructure databases and many government agencies, as we understand it, have been exposed to the open internet, which includes critical databases at the Department of Energy, which includes a lot of our nuclear regulatory agency material.”

“So right now the real concern is that this not unlike Chernobyl,” he concluded. “And all of the control panels lighting up after the meltdown. This is serious and I just wanna commend Dan for coming forward to bring this to everybody’s attention because this really is the tip of the iceberg.”

Haunted by hopelessness: 12 Zambians Share their stories as HIV drugs run out.

Too long to quote in full, but here's a few bits:

Quote

A study out this month in The Lancet estimated what would happen if the U.S. does not continue its flagship HIV/AIDS program that's been pivotal to reversing the downward trend in life expectancy due to AIDS. The researchers from Oxford University and elsewhere found that half a million additional children will die of AIDS in the next 5 years in sub-Saharan Africa and nearly 3 million more African children will be orphaned by AIDS. In many Zambian communities, people say these numbers will soon be more than just a forecast.

Quote

"Jovial."

That's the word Theresa Mwanza, 32, liked to use to describe her 10-year-old daughter, Dorcas. When Dorcas would get home from school, she'd often play house, pretending to prepare nshima — a thick traditional porridge — for her imaginary family. "I'm thinking she'll be very family-oriented when she grows up," says Theresa in Bemba, a local language spoken in parts of Zambia.

It's now been eight days since both Dorcas and her mom, Theresa, took the last of their HIV medications.

A single mom and an only child, they've always taken their medicine together at 8 p.m. each night. The change in routine has confused the little girl.

"In the past week, she'll open the tin [where the medicine is kept] and find that it's empty," says Theresa. "She'll run down to the clinic to go and check if she can collect her medication. And then she'll come back home and say, 'Oh, you are right. The clinic is closed. They're not there anymore.' "

And it seems like their U.S.-funded clinic is not coming back. The doors of the clinic, which services over 2,000 HIV patients, have been locked since the end of January, the staff let go and the furniture largely removed. This clinic didn't just provide medication, it also provided basic food since HIV medicine cannot be taken on an empty stomach. Theresa and Dorcas lost both.

So far, without their medication, Theresa feels okay. But Dorcas has developed a fever and chills — and she feels weak. Flu-like symptoms are often one of the first symptoms after someone goes off HIV treatment — the level of virus rises and the body tries to fight it off. Worried, Theresa now stays home to tend to her daughter — who often rests on a mat by the tree outside their home. But it means Theresa isn't going house to house to do laundry and odd jobs, their main source of income.

Theresa tried to get their medications at a clinic run by the Zambian government. It took an hour to walk there only to get turned away. "They keep insisting: 'You need to get direction or guidance from the clinic where you were on where you will go to next,'" she recalls. But with her neighborhood clinic closed, Theresa isn't sure what to do.

She thinks back to her two sisters who died of AIDS before medication became available — and free with help from the U.S. "I am now really worried," she says looking at her daughter. "She's a very jovial little girl, but she's been very miserable the past few days."

The people who did this, and the people who cheered it on, deserve to die the most excruciating deaths imaginable.

Or it could be a legitimate question.

Why can agencies not share data rather than segregating it and then requiring duplicative bureaucracies to deal with the exact same data?

That's extremely inefficient.

I told my boss today that I needed access to all the payroll records for our employees in the company. When questioned why, I let him know that both IT and HR are part of the Administrative department of the company so it seems curious why one administrative dept shouldn't have access to all data from another administrative department. Why should they be segregated?

Seems inefficient...

see how fucking stupid that sounds?

So, each agency needs a completely different bureaucracy to handle that information instead of combining it into one function across all of the agencies?

Guess you like inefficiency...Instead of ONE, we should have hundreds?

Even when EVERY SINGLE AGENCY has the same function - HR/Payroll?  So you need hundreds of HR/Payroll offices?  And they don't share any information?  That's extremely inefficient.

Why not have one central HR/Payroll office that handles those functions instead of hundreds of them - each with X number of VPs, Y number of Directors, Z number of managers?

These are the EXACT same people who shrieked incessantly (without basis, mind you) that the Obama admin “IS GONNA CREATE A NATIONAL ID CARD! THE GUBMINT WILL KNOW ALL YOUR INFO! IT’S THA MARK OF THE BEAST!”
Exhibit infinity about how they never, ever had a problem with an expansive, all-knowing, all ruling federal government. They just wanted it done by THEIR guy.
Oh, and the reason that we don’t want every agency sharing all data about everyone is because no, they don’t need it all. And as for me, I actually DO believe the government’s access to and use of our personal data shouldn’t be more expansive than it needs to be. Amazingly, it turns out I am and always was more libertarian than all the folks who claimed to be libertarian when Obama was around, but now can’t gobble enough authoritarian cock.

Because that "inefficient" data segregation that keeps different bits of data about you in different agencies protects your privacy. The inefficiency is the fucking point.

Say, for example, there's a data breach in one of them. Keeping other private details about you in other places prevents that other information from getting stolen, shared, or even easily abused by a single bad actor within the government itself.

Siloeing data in different places protects your red ass in the same way you shouldn't use the same password for everything you do online. Do you really want the entire universe of data about you, your family, your bank accounts, your tax information, or even whether your fucking kid is getting special ed stored in a single place?

Here's a taste of the kind of data about you that DOGE is trying to consolidate, making all of this shit very vulnerable (spoilered for length). Maybe taking a little care, spending a little more, or being a little inefficient is worth it when all of this is at stake.

You see, Ag, they can. And they do! And they should do more of it, but struggle to, due to archaic rules and systems incompatibilities, which is what DOGE should be working on.
But that’s not what we’re talking about here. So the reason I think you’re trolling is because it’s so very, very clear that we are not talking about serious programmatic efforts to streamline, consolidate, rationalize and improve the efficiency of databases and data collection across the Federal bureaucracy.

I gave you credit for generally arguing in good faith the other day, and I meant it. I’d rather not be disappointed.

There was a talk I used to give at conferences about information security in banking, and the gist of it was that convenience and security are inherently in tension - the most convenient systems are the least secure and vice versa.

Outside of a crisis, the wrong way to resolve the tension is to prioritize one thing over the other, and the right way is to manage access around workflow and use cases on an ongoing basis.
