LOL at the Rangers thread actually getting some posts tonight.  Buncha fair-weather die-hards.

It’s Flagship(a well known idiot) and a couple of our guys who need to stay out of that thread. We certainly don’t want them to come over here.

Springer, Altuve, Gonzalez, McCann, and Reddick are all worse than last year to varying degrees. Gurriel is slightly worse.

Bregman is better.

Correa is hurt again.
Everyone had a career year last year

4. Ryan Pressly, RHP, Minnesota Twins
Age: 29 Under control through: 2019
2018 stats: W/L: 1-1, ERA: 3.40, WAR: 0.7, WHIP 1.364, SV: 0

Pressly’s mid-90s fastball, slider and curve combined with his 2.94 FIP would be a real sleeper pick-up for some team.

I don’t mind trading Alcala as he’s been a bit of a disappointment following his last promotion, but trading Celestino for a reliever seems pretty fucking rash.

With the shape the Rangers staff is in ...and missing Hanels because of the trade...I’d predict the Astros drop half a hundred this weekend if Correa and Tuve were in the lineup.
Our AAAA lineup may still score 4 TDs.

Needless to say, anything less than a sweep would be a huge disappointment

Good call bro.

Yep
Gotta love baseball.
Although since the break:
Gallardo 11.1 IP, 0.00 ERA
Rest of Rangers staff (plus position players pitching): 63.2 IP, 67 ERs or 9.54 ERA

Astros will bounce back tomorrow and Sunday.

When is the last time Devenski got an out? That guy seems like the new Giles

But, we really do need to trade for another MLB quality bat. Our lineup without Tuve and Correa is pretty bad. White, Davis, Stassi, Marwin and non-June Gattis make my head hurt (though that may be the alcohol). And I don't feel like Tucker is ready just yet.

A lot of these offensive issues have plagued us all season. It’s just that we somewhat overcame them when three of our five starters were white-hot. It’s the reason the  Astros are rightly perceived to have underachieved despite having a solid W-L record.

I’m pretty sure the front office is at least mildly concerned. Whether that translates into direct roster action I obviously don’t know. But if it doesn’t, there’s very little chance of another parade. We’re flopping around like a headless snake right now.

I mean, when you take 2 of the 10-15 best hitters in MLB out of a lineup - particularly when you are replacing them with middle infielders - it is going to suffer quite a bit.

Here is the team rank in wRC+ by position:

C - 12th (tie)

1B - 19th

2B - 1st

SS - 10th

3B - 2nd

LF - 18th

CF - 10th

RF - 14th

DH - 6th (out of 15)

The only spots where we are below the median are 1B and LF (and basically right there in RF). At first, Yuli has a 106 wRC+. Of the 1B currently ahead of him, only Jose Abreu (109), Justin Smoak (130) and Brandon Belt (129) are on teams below .500 (and SF in one game below). Belt is signed through 2021, so he's not likely to get moved. Maybe you could get Smoak, as he has one option year left, doesn't figure to cost too much, and Toronto figures to bring up Vlad Jr soon. Abreu would be nice, as he has a track record, but he hasn't hit much better than Yuli this year, so you wonder if that upgrade is worth the prospects. (Note: I don't consider Votto to be available, as much as I would obviously love to have him.)

In the OF, it's a bit murkier. Harper has been discussed, but he figures to cost a shit-ton for WAS to even consider moving him - in other words, it is probably worth much more (to them) to keep him than it is for other teams to acquire him. It would be great to get Harper, but you're likely giving up a lot for a guy with a 120 wRC+ (even though it would surprise nobody if he posted a 200 wRC+ the rest of the year) who will leave at the end of the year. Beyond Harper, you are talking about maybe Andrew McCutchen or Adam Jones, who are big names but have been pretty average this year. That's about it for guys who are at or above a 100 wRC+ and figure to be available (i.e., on sub-.500 teams and who aren't young/controllable assets).

Maybe you can get Smoak or Abreu without having to give up one of your top-7-ish prospects, and those guys are probably better hitters than Yuli; but you wonder if the marginal improvement is worth the prospects + any "chemistry" issues it may create (Yuli seems popular). Or maybe you can go get McCutchen, who wouldn't figure to cost much, to upgrade LF. To me, that seems like a more realistic option, as Tucker could go back to Fresno for a month and come back in Sep. But, SF is only a game under .500 and may not be interested in blowing it up yet (though they are well behind 3 teams in their own division.

tl;dr: trade for McCutchen.

Whatever you do, don't look at our August record from last year.

btw, there were times last year and earlier this year when we just couldn't hit, especially at home.  i know it seems like we're 2-10 since the all-star break, but it only seems that way.

like i've said again and again - either our stars figure out what's going on at the plate, and we'll be fine.  or they won't, and it won't matter.  trading for a bat solves nothing.
