You should see how the last two teams we faced last season are doing.

Don't give a shit about the Yankees or Dodgers.

Tyler White continuing to crush the ball in Fresno. I’d give him a shot at DH if Gattis continues to struggle.

Plus White can at least attempt to play the infield except SS thus giving you the option to DH others on the infield

As a team, we are at .250/.334/.388, ranking 18th is SLG. The Astros had a .425 SLG% last April.

We are at 24% K rate as a team right now, with a 107 wRC+; last year was 19.5% and 107 in April (17% and a 121 wRC+ for the year). Another poster earlier in the thread astutely pointed out that Gurriel's return (replacing JD Davis, mostly) should improve the contact issue, and Yuli has started quickly.

Batted ball profiles look pretty much the same - no glaring disparities.

All in all, the bats have been frustrating, but it doesn't look like anything fundamentally has changed other than more strikeouts, which are mostly accounted for by substituting Yuli (career 10% K rate) with Davis (career 30% K rate).

That said, it is possible that Marwin and Peacock, two really important players last year, had their career years in 2018. Still , no reason to think they won't at least be pretty good at this point.

tl;dr - it's April.

THIS DATE IN ASTROS HISTORY - april 15
1968 - The longest shutout in MLB history is played at the Astrodome vs. the Mets, lasting over six hours before the Astros nally score a run in the 24th inning to win it, 1-0...catch- ers Hal King and Jerry Grote play the entire contest...Tom Seaver (10 IP, 2 H) and Don Wilson (9 IP, 5 H) were the starters...Wade Blasingame earned the win in relief (4 IP).

CJ and Bregman have a history. Remember this from last year after an Odor bat flip on a long single in the WBC

“Kid with 70 days in the big leagues subtweets Odor’s bat flip, and tells him to ‘act like you’ve done it before,'” Nitkowski wrote. “In a second cowardly act the tweet gets deleted. Twitter courage fades fast.”

The Astros are 1-2 against teams that don't suck.  They are 9-3 against the dregs of the MLB.  You don't get to play 130 games against the dregs of the MLB unfortunately...

Takes a few days to get used to the weight of those World Champion rings in the batter's box. We'll be fine, thanks.

Alex and Jessica are intolerable. Watching with sound off. Almost like being there.

And Astros still can’t hit shit.

I don't mind Jessica too much, probably because I want to sleep with her.

A-Rod is like Lowell Galindo on steroids.

Bartolo Colon is a cinch to throw a perfecto tonight. In fact, every remaining pitch will be a strike.

And he'll break the strikeout record for one game.
