all's well that ends well i suppose.

you look fine when you push the right buttons and the guys you put in seal the win.  but you look fucking incompetent as hell when your 3rd or 4th best reliever blows a clear save chance in the 9th at home when he's rested and has 1(?) blown save on the year.  these are the games where i'd like to see giles build some confidence.

Fuck building Giles confidence. He was fine last year in the regular season and shit the bed in the post season. Nothing will change with that mental midget.

Good work getting through that May schedule and first week of June. Still sitting at .603 winning percentage (on pace for 98 wins over 162).

Time to go put the West on lockdown and figure out what pieces to add by July 31. Next time we play a team currently over .500? July 20 against the Angels...after the All-Star break. 36 games from now. (Good timing as I’m fearful of a not so short DL stint coming up for Correa).

I am starting to laugh when I hear talk of Carlos Correa being a $400million man. He’s made of glass and misses 40+ every year and, frankly, his offensive numbers are good, not really great. I’m sure he’ll go on the DL and miss the next month+ just as we face competition we should be destroying. Ridiculous.

To be fair his numbers when he actually played last year were excellent by any measure

But the injury deal is spot on.  Not that we have to worry about that any time soon ($400M contract)

He's been arguably the best SS in the game since 2015, particularly if you focus only on his offensive numbers.

if this injury is the root cause of his offensive struggles this year, then i'd rather he go and get fixed and better since we'll need him down the road and not neccessarily right now. that said, he does seem to have a lot more injuries compared to other players - it's non Bob Sanders-esque, but he's not as durable as someone like Altuve. On the bright side, this probably means more Marwin (meh) but can get behind Bregs to SS and a Davis/Yuli corner infield combo.

I get it, but the injury component cannot be ignored. Volume matters and the adding stats are relevant in the conversation. If you could have Lindor, Bogaerts, SImmons, or Correa for the next 3.5 seasons, how would you rank your desire? It's subjective, but I'd go Lindor, Simmons, Bogaerts, Correa in that order. Correa is going to continue to handle himself with kid gloves in order to reach the next contract, and the other guys seem fine as replacements with either elite skills or better durability.

Across the landscape of the game, I'm glad we have Correa as a core member and our shortstop, but I don't view him as a the unquestionably best shortstop in the game. Seager's injury and future health have me feeling the same way about him, hence me not ranking him as a top 4 guy I'd want at SS.

I suspect any angst over CC's offensive production is mainly due to the feeling a guy who hit so well so early should continue to post even better numbers year after year. On paper, I'm not sure you can say he's a much better hitter than he was when called up at age 20. (Of course, we often see guys hit/pitch really well before the rest of MLB figures out how to deal with them.) Bottom line is that fans naturally are going to expect a young player to continue to get better, especially when surrounded by other good players in a good organization.

You're insane if you don't think the Angels and Red Sox would trade Simmons/Bogaerts for Correa straight up in a heartbeat (even ignoring differences in the number of years of team control for each player).  Correa has already provided more value than Bogaerts over his career even though he's "made of glass" and is two years younger.

I know he missed about 6 weeks last year with the thumb ligament injury and about a week or so after he took a 95 mph fastball to the hand. But I don't recall him missing significant time due to injury other than that. Am I forgetting something? I remember he had shoulder soreness in September '16, but I don't recall him missing significant time. He has the fewest games played of anyone but Seager on the list I posted above, but he didn't play until June '15 and missed those 6-8 weeks last season. Guess I'm either forgetting some injuries or just not seeing the "made of glass" argument. He certainly hasn't missed 40+ every year due to injury.

I don't know how they still haven't gotten him to stop taking the first strike.  With as analytical as the Astros are, having one of your best hitters limit himself to 2 strikes per AB is crazy to me.  He lets a meatball go down the middle just about every damn at bat.  At least swing at them occasionally so the pitcher has to try to throw a good pitch.

He broke his fibula in 2014 and missed half of the minor league season.

i haven't paid enough attention to yuli at 3rd, but is that a real possibility?  having jd at 1st instead of marwin playing everyday is something i'm interested to see play out.  the way gattis is swinging, we need him dh'ing every day.  but that still gives us plenty of flexibility in left and 1st (and 3rd i suppose).

yes, played there a few games this year already, Hinch has indicated he probably would at some points this season, and has spent the majority of his time as a professional there in Cuba.

if marcus semien can be considered any everyday shortstop, yuli can fill is an occassional 3B
