2018 Houston Astros Season Thread

Kinda funny looking at the probables for tomorrow.  Astros get Greinke, and the A’s get “TBD.”  Of course, the Astros are sending Verlander to the hill, and the A’s are sending Fiers.

Astros need to be patient with Greinke and make him throw a lot.  DBacks pen has already thrown nearly 9 innings in the first two games.  They already started to show the wear today.

How about CFM with 29 wins since getting picked up by the Astros (yeah, yeah pitcher wins I know)...

Still, astros had a grand total of 51 wins all of 2013.

No way he can retire after this year, right?

He’s a strange dude.  I wouldn’t put it past him.

I also wouldn’t put it past him to sign a 2 yr deal with Houston below market value.  He seems like the kind of guy that will stay in a place that he likes and is comfortable rather than chase the most $$$.  I’m not saying the Astros should low ball him, but as long as they negotiate in good faith, I could see him coming back.   The Astros also offered him a FAR better deal than he expected 2 years ago, so there is a lot goodwill on both sides I think.

It’s been discussed a bit here and there but a bit lost in the Carlos’ bat going silent is George becoming a singles hitter. Since he’s come back and played every day at the end of August (27th):
1 HR, 3 2Bs, 21 singles

That’s OK.  The power is still there and could break out at anytime.  He’s got a good approach going right now.  Don’t mess with a streak.

Stareman seems to thrive on the game within the game, but he can continue with his Randy Moss/ fuck the Cowboys act all he wants...

Alex Bregman wears No. 2 in part because Diamondbacks didn't draft him No. 1

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman still isn't over the fact that the Arizona Diamondbacks passed over him in the 2015 MLB draft.

"I was super happy to come to a good organization like the Astros, an organization that was up-and-coming," Bregman told the Arizona Republic on Saturday. "But, yeah, I was pissed. I wanted to be the No. 1 overall pick. Part of the reason I wear No. 2 is because of that."

Bregman previously said he wore No. 2 in part to honor childhood idol and former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter.

The Diamondbacks chose Dansby Swanson in the 2015 draft and never really considered Bregman, who won a World Series with the Astros last season and was named to his first All-Star Game this summer, where he was named game MVP. Swanson was traded to the Atlanta Braves in the 2015 offseason without ever playing a major league game for the Diamondbacks.

Bregman told the newspaper that he had a chance to join the Diamondbacks out of high school in 2012. They had reached out to see if he would sign as a second-round pick, but he told the club he was going to LSU instead. With the Tigers, he wore the No. 30 -- for the number of teams that passed on him in Round 1, Bregman said.

The 24-year-old has had some success trying to pay the Diamondbacks back on the field. He is 8-for-32 against them in his career with one home run and two RBIs. He was 1-for-2 and scored a run in Saturday's 10-4 Astros win.
