Post a pic that makes you say "Holy shit."

Born Burnt

This was around the corner from my daughter’s apartment in Edinburgh last night.
This took place in Cowgate, which is roughly equivalent to 6th street.

This isn’t the event itself, but the immediate aftermath. it’s graphic:

Spoiler

Just walking down the street after the pub and hey that looks like a head

From Liberally Lean:

These are incredible photos wereposted by a Fort Worth firefighter yesterday regarding a wreck on 287 at the Saginaw cutoff. That's a guardrail that went all the way through the vehicle. And the driver survived.

The Highway Division of the AG's office will send the driver the bill for the guardrail.

these guys dont get paid enough

My google AI tells me City of Austin pays 146k / yr.

Not shabby. But definitely an outlier

I like the idea of the sitting around all day thing and going to HeB to go shopping….  But the actual fire fighting is a no for me dawg.

Better yet, at AFD you go 24 on and 48 off. Even better, you have Kelly Days, where you skip a day on, so you have five consecutive days off. Kellys have some weird scheduling but I'll bet there's a Surly who can tell you what it is.

Seems like a lot of firefighters get a side gig of their own going, since they have that extra time off.

Two of my great nephews are firefighters (Austin & Round Rock).

About 10 years ago the Austin nephew spent a scary time late one night during a flashflood just above Barton Springs Pool.
He and his colleague spent a harrowing time at the end oftheir fully extended 100’ over the creek with grappling hooks fishing the body of a drowned tuber caught in the bypass drain intake.

His brother has a lucrative side business designing commercial fire suppression systems.
He & his team spent a lot of time doing water rescue in Houston after hurricanes.
(has a CE degree from UT and a Masters from an East Coast university).

I remember that.  well, I remember one time it happened; I'm sure it's happened more than a few times.
