Aka 1970s F5

maybe the outside, but lets not forget that Iran shares a body of water that is shared by Russia..... not too tough for Russia to send Iran a shitload of semi-modern plane electronics to put into their fighters.

---while still allowing Iran to claim "domestic" production

They already had a fair number of F-5s courtesy of us.  Guess they just got out their calipers and went to work.  I suppose the F-4s, F-14s, Mirages and various Soviet craft were a bit too much.

F-5 isn't a bad little plane.  For a third world country.

i kinda thought the AF should find some F-20 tigersharks somewhere, paint them in a modern scheme, and use them as the jet fighters you can buy for $92 million, and here iran has basically done that.

That looks like fighter equivalent of a Pontiac Fiero based Ferrari kit car.
