I know this is off subject, but does any person think that with the sentencing of Bill Cosby, with some sour on approving Kavanaugh at his point..?

I thought about this connection today and I don’t think it has any influence on the Senators but it does increase the intensity of the national conversation surrounding listening to and believing victims of sexual assault.

The Dems don't want somebody to GET facts or testimony.  They want somebody to GIVE testimony - not about what happened 36 years ago, but about the horrors of the way women are treated.  They want a trial on sexual harassment, not on Kavanaugh.  They want to give ten campaign speeches - speeches that make the case for them personally, not for Dr Ford.

So, there's no chance they want to give their mic to somebody else.

They've already done a fabulous job exposing Brett Kavanaugh to be a liar.

I expect Thursday will be more of the same. His performance on Fox last night was brutal.

And that, people, is exactly what I said. A 5-4 majority with the result being that the controlling body of an entire branch of the government cripples its legitimacy.

The harm that will do to the SCOTUS and the country is incredible. And that’s what the GOP wants. Truly unreal to watch.

They will truly “destroy the village in order to save it.” Except they really don’t have a plan beyond the first part.

The current circus doesn't even make the top 10 of SCOTUS scandals and debauchery.

The same "Family Values Republicans" who crucified Bill Clinton for a consensual blowjob have elected an accused multiple rapist to the presidency and are blindly defending another accused multiple rapist for the Supreme Court.

All so you can overturn Roe v Wade.  All you "Small Government Republicans" care so much about legislating your morality that you don't even see that you're committing party suicide.  You'll get what you want on Roe v Wade.  And it'll be the death rattle of the Republican Party.  And you're too stupid to realize it.  The olds are dying and you've lost all of the youngs.

You amazing hypocrites.  History will not be kind.

What will really happen is that a media savvy populist will come around and do a smarter job of selling a nationalist agenda and seem less “deplorable” doing so. The South, Texas and the rust belt have the votes.

They want the vote so he starts for the October 1st term. Believe me, this will be an accelerated vote in the full body. Either Friday night or Saturday morning.

McConnell absolutely wants to vote as soon as possible, but he will not bring it to the floor until he knows he has 51 votes. No one has any idea when that will be. It might never happen.

For the record, I think Dr. Ford played the Republicans on the outside female attorney thing.  It only makes them look weaker and cowardly at the end of the day.

They fought tooth and nail to make sure the accuser is questioned by a woman.

Congrats.

Wait I thought she was just a victim “deserving” to be heard???

Others have with this Congress. Unless they were Dems.
You have little basis for your guess. The funny business in this nomination has all come from the GOP side including the late release of thousands of documents allowing the minority insufficient time for review. And there is the repeated lying by both GOP officials and some of your colleagues on here to muddy the waters.
This issue could have been investigated by the FBI by now. Why is the White House reluctant?
Why nominate a candidate already iffy and now beset? Why?

Just my opinion.

Who are my “colleagues” btw?

The FBI basically said “we don’t do that sort of thing.”

https://www.npr.org/2018/09/18/649085712/democrats-want-fbi-to-investigate-kavanaugh-allegations-it-likely-won

"The FBI does not make any judgment about the credibility or significance of any allegation," the statement reads. "The purpose of a background investigation is to determine whether the nominee could pose a risk to the national security of the United States. The allegation does not involve any potential federal crime. The FBI's role in such matters is to provide information for the use of the decision makers."

I believe Congress is free to launch their own investigation. I could be wrong about that.

There is just as much a chance of this populist coming from the left as there is from the right.

Left wing populism is every bit as popular as right wing populism, especially in the rust belt.

Maybe.  Democrats can be populists, too.

But the Republicans' alienation of the millennials will cost them for decades.  And if they overturn Roe v Wade and keep backing rapists, they're as dead as the Whigs.  Watch.

Texas will be blue (again) by 2024.

This and Johnny Sack's hope that the justice, if confirmed, goes on a jihad against liberal rulings indicate at what level some people choose to consider national policy and issues. You want Josey Wales squinting down from the bench. GOPs like watching the tanks roll and the bombs fall because it's manly in their eyes, and they can vicariously take part.
It's not football. It's not teams. I know writing this has no impact.

I honestly do not care, at all, if Kavanaugh gets confirmed. I think Roe v Wade (which is what this is really about) is safe, and even if it was overturned most states would allow abortion anyway (which I’m in favor of). I supported the SCOTUS on gay marriage. I support many progressive social issues because I’m a live and let live libertarian.

I’m just suggesting that if the Republicans want to “win” this, that’s what they should do. Could be the worst idea ever, just my opinion.

this discounts the predilection of those extreme right-wingers who love to use lib tears and triggered gifs as general discourse. euro saw him some tears, and got a hard on for lib tears, enjoying the pain of someone else. in fact, he got so excited, he didn't even stop to determine the source of that picture, which did not have to be sandy hook. it could have been from any other major attack in the past five years. the tears were the most important part to go along with the meme, not the source.

it's a fucked up condition.

he was so excited Johnny Sad Sack came sniffing around and decided he wanted some of that.  Sad.  Sack.

Getting him confirmed will be great for Democrats. Republicans seem to forget that they will be out of power soon and lib cucks will be confirming judges for lifetime appointments. They are begging the next Democrat in the White House to nominate the most progressive judges out there.

I agree with your first line. It will make for great campaign material for the midterms and the next presidential election.

Surely you’ve been at a deposition before. If the other sides lawyer showed up and said thanks for coming but I’m not going to ask any questions, but this person who you don’t know, is not part of my firm, and have no idea their involvement in the matter is gonna ask the questions, would you allow that?

I had a trial in February. The other side brought in an attorney day of trial from another firm.  He was able to question my witnesses.  You think I get to choose the attorney who questions my clients?

Man you guys are too obvious. It’s not about whether she’s telling the truth. It’s about how good you look truth be damned.

Fucking immoral imbeciles.

The thing is the Republicans don't care if every accusation against Kavanaugh is true. That's irrelevant. He's their guy and they're going to get him confirmed. He's a Republican who will vote for Republican causes and, most importantly, protect the Republican president from indictment for his crimes. Kavanaugh could've held the altar boys down while the priest raped them in the rectory and the GOP would still support him.

The Democrats should absolutely be looking at the impeachment rules and applying them as textually strictly as possible. Draining the swamp means holding those in power to account and that is exactly what should happen in this case. If lying under oath is grounds for removal from his seat on the bench, there is no reason for the Democrats to not pursue that immediately upon gaining control of Congress.
Drain the swamp of every Good Old Boy, Ivy League rat in power.
Pack the court with decent human beings who are honest under oath.
This shouldn't be that hard.

Have any of the GOP’s who sit on the committee given an explanation for why they refuse to ask the questions of Dr. Ford.

Follow up:  Will BK also be questioned by the same outside counsel?

because they don't want to put their faces next to their responses in an election year.  She took a lie detector test, why won't they or BK?

Judic Cmte noticed POTENTIAL exec mtg for Friday. Still taking this 1 step at a time. After hrg Dr Ford & Judge Kavanaugh’s testimony- if we‘re ready to vote, we will vote. If we aren’t ready, we won’t. Cmte rules normally require 3 days notice so we‘re following regular order

Sorry for quoting myself.  Maybe the dems should each question the accuser politely, and then all give their time to Kamala Harris and let her be the attack dog on BK?

This is going to be so awkward.  The Republicans will yield to the female attorney while Blumenthal, Whitehouse, Coons, and Durbin treat Dr. Ford like a normal human being.

Johnny. Baby. It was submitted in confidence.

Even if it wasn't, is it wicked for Dems to run the clock when the GOPs are rushing things to the point that due diligence is restricted? Did they break a committee rule? That's the standard the GOPs set, should the Dems fight with one hand?

You're kind of losing it on this one.

Nah, remember him and his wife and daughters were laughing about it, so much so that he's constantly posting on it because it's weirdly concerning.  Hate to see what goes in a family that deems rape funny but hey,  I guess he's the white male in that family so what he says goes.

Are you not following this issue?  Because it was her camp who showed the notes to the media.  And the media said she said there were 4 perps but didn’t name any of them.
