Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation Thread

The fbi investigation is not going to prove or disprove anything unless judge says ford was telling the truth.   Talking to him may be the complete scope of the one week investigation.    The WH dictates the scope of the investigation.  The fbi doesn’t have the remit to discover if a crime occurred.  It’s only an extension of a background check.

if judge just reads his statement over and over to the fbi, the investigation will be concluded.

Whats ironic about kavanaugh is that he basically has gone down the same road as the bill clinton investigation.  Bill was investigated by Starr about real estate deals but they got bill lying about an embarrassing personal behavior.   Kavanaugh is being investigated for potential sexual assault but we all know he lied to Congress about embarrassing personal behavior.    You have to wonder if the senate flips Dem in ‘18 or ‘20, will Schumer pursue perjury charges against a sitting justice.

We ALL know kavanaugh lied Thursday.  Maybe they were minor or inconsequential but is anything inconsequential when applying for the Supreme Court?

If you every have any doubt about the long confirmed demographic difference in education and Trump support - just read this thread.  It's brought out the uninformed, the gullible, the dim conned angry men.   Ya know, MAGA peeps.

You can tell the Fox watchers by the total lack of understanding the other side's position.    They are hearing most of what we are saying for the first on Surly, their Fox News and talk radio stations passing on Dear Leader's messaging.  Why of course if there is a he-said, she-said about assault in a room with three people, you definitely do not want to subpoena the third person.  That is crazy Librul talk!!!

They are completely unaware of the facts that have come out, and have circled the herd like some musk ox convention.   Truly sad.

I think this has long been established.  The GOP right doesn't deal in facts, they deal in alternative facts and emotion.   We hate Hillary cause she is a bitch.   We hate her cause... well we just do.   But really, they hate her for zero reason.   She was part of an administration that finished the job they started.    Their record on military accomplishments is akin to their record on economic financial accomplishments.   Lots of talk, few results.

Well if anything could be worse for the state of political discourse in the country than what has happened this week it would be perjury hearings over BOOF and Devils Triangle in a high school yearbook.

I guess that means it is an absolute certainty it will happen.

I’ve read about that.  Most think it wouldn’t give trump the power to pardon state crimes as the pardon power of crimes is limited for crimes against the United States . In other words federal crimes.     Now I suppose if trump pardoned someone that had been convicted/accused of a federal crime, it might be impossible for a state trial on the same charges.

And if Trump limits the scope of the investigation for political (not time) purposes, that will get leaked and it will be an arrow in the Dem quiver for the 30 years that Kav is in the SC. The GOP is in a "damn the torpedoes" mode. They're rushing it like a horny guy on prom night without a condom who is thinking, "If a baby comes we'll deal with it later I just gotta nut right now."

Will the Dems have the spine to, in the near future, properly utilize the political capital they're being given now? I think we know the answer and the GOP knows the answer, too.

Yes.   The goal of this supplemental investigation is to appease 3 gop senators.  The 3 want to confirm kavanaugh.  They just want the fbi to say that nothing is there or that impossible to determine 35 years later.     It’s not ford’s responsibility to prove her accusations but she doesn’t have proof other than her word.   That won’t be enough to stop the confirmation.

and in some respects this week delay might be good for the gop.  It cools everyone down.  Trump will probably say something crazy about another topic, probably intentionally, late next week to divert attention from the fbi report and subsequent confirmation.

We don't need the FBI to tell us that Brett Kavanaugh, as a judge, at best is unable/unwilling to make the distinction between a refutation and a lack of recollection when he claimed party attendees disputed Ford's account, or at worst intentionally told a demonstrable falsehood under oath. That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this nomination but by itself should be more than enough to not only disqualify him from the SC, but from being a judge at all. He should be breathing a sigh of relief he's not yet going to jail, but I'm sure he'll continue to be outraged in his consequence-free world the elite are accustomed to.

Interesting how the gop rails about the elites but it’s basically who they are.  They dumped palin pretty quickly when she wasn’t useful for them.   An Alaskan community college grad doesn’t fly in their circles in DC for long.

It's true.  Tom Kane, who was at that brewski party on Kavanaugh's calendars, remembers Dr. Ford from this time frame because she was dating Garrett, who was also at that party.  Now, he believes his buddy, of course, but those underlying facts of how she knew this group are confirmed.

Isn’t Garrett the guy the internet identified that looked like Kavanaugh? Wait was he at the party? With Ford? If I’m the fbi that’s one of the first people I go talk to.

If by "the internet" you mean "Ed Whelan, who was leaked Ford's identity by the Republcians in the SJC and/or Kavanaugh himself", yeah.

lol

Yep, same guy.   We don't know if this is the party she remembers, though.  It's just a very consistent party on his calendar.   Her connection to the group was there, plus all three boys she remembers being there.

Seems like an important guy to talk to.

I agree...  Drain the swamp....  Ooooo  Life time appointment for a kid born/raised in DC privilege...  he will be the second SC judge from that tiny Prep School.

side note...  I went to a small private prep school in VA...  We would have school ski trips and would be at resorts with other prep schools.   Shit I have seen at the hotels on those trips was matched only by the debauchery of Gator Growl.  Also the slang clarified for the panel by Bart O'Kavanaugh is laughable...  Boof = fart...  sure Bart, sure, all people boof

I've got no idea who that guy on twitter is or if he's remotely credible, but this is pretty much all her father has said publicly since her identity was publicly revealed:

Quote

Reached by phone on Tuesday, Ford’s father, Ralph Blasey Jr., offered a brief endorsement of his daughter. “I think all of the Blasey family would support her. I think her record stands for itself. Her schooling, her jobs and so on,” he said before hanging up. Moments later, after picking up the phone a second time, he added: “I think any father would have love for his daughter.”

He seems like a real great father.

Not exactly full throated support there dad.

“If someone asked any father, which would include possibly me, if they loved their daughter one would think they would probably say yes.”

Man, I wonder why this super timid woman who was raised by a country club Republican father wouldn't have immediately started shouting about her victimization to the world!

Thankfully, after her powerful testimony, I think even most Kavanaugh supporters believe that she's not fabricating that she was sexually assaulted by someone.   That said, it's odd that they no longer believe in the reliability of eyewitness testimony, after years of support for sending convicts to prison or the execution chamber based largely on witness ID.

if they verify those terms with his fellow classmates and they contradict him, then he's the one who made int an actual issue.  If it comes back as  threesome, and ffffff comes back as acronyms for something else he's proper fucked.

And one week his enough time to do this, we heard that from more than one democrat. They'd never lie would they ?

No it's not.  More and more credible people familiar with Kavanaugh and are going to neg him.  At some point, those folks on the fence are going to feel there is too much crap being thrown and lots of it is sticking.

Are we too far gone for Kavanaugh to pull out at this point so that the GOP can lock in the whine about him being railroaded?

I wonder how much of the FBI investigation will be performing tasks like checking out Judge's employment - tasks which the two multi-million dollar teams of Operation research" have already done but can't get on the record - and how much will be done performing tasks like interviewing Judge - tasks which only they can do.  You have to believe that the hit teams have already contacted a few thousand people, some of whom talk.  This is not to mention the hundreds who approached them.

What a statement.  I’m a dad, so I’m kind of obligated to support her.  Don’t hold it against me.
