In some sects of Christianity, the husband is the head of the household and a woman should follow her husband. I think a lot of it is a religious/culture thing. They believe their life's work is to have babies and make their husbands sandwiches.

I think this is probably pretty close to the mark, though they won't say it out loud.

That seems a little Machiavellian, or at least circular.  So Kavanaugh isn't going to be prosecuted for perjury because he's going to be confirmed, but Ford will be prosecuted for same?  QED?

Is that where we are?  You're OK with that?

We are absolutely to that point and have been there for as far back as i can remember.

I don't want innocent people to go to jail and I don't want guilty people to get away with crimes.  I have no clue if either one of these people committed a crime or not.

That being said, the best man doesn't always win.

No I'm serious, I've never blacked out drinking beer.  I've never blacked out period and I can drink a truckload.

I've blacked out drinking beer.  I essentially don't drink anything BUT beer.  Your ability to "drink a truckload" doesn't map to everyone else.  If I down 12 beers in a 24 hour period I am fucked -- I'm not the guy who can float the Guadalupe and down a case in 6 hours because I'm sweating and pissing it all out.

In short, people vary.

thats it. the Republican Party has now fully embraced Trumpism. Fuck them all. Its time to burn that party to the ground.

Let Mitch reap the whirlwind next month.  Let the House drag all of Trump’s dirty laundry out in the open come 2019.  Make those fuckers with an (R) next to their names wither own Trump, or have to actively work against him.

I admit, a part of me wants Kavanaugh confirmed, just so the destruction of the GOP’s power is hastened.

I have a very close friend who is as far from a submissive evangelical wife as you can imagine.  She sees almost everything through the lens of her father's business troubles during the Carter administration.  In her mind, all Democratic policies are evil and wholly responsible for runaway inflation that severely damaged their family's small chain of motels.  Never mind that inflation started spiking well before Carter took office, never mind a couple of oil crises in the 70's, it's all Democrats.

She is DEFINITELY about as far from a "submissive wife" as you can imagine.  For one, she's divorced, but she's fiercely independent. I'd guess she's probably a slight lean towards pro-life, but not in a zealous way.  She literally sees her goal in life as making an easy path for her 2 sons, along with taking a bajillion selfies.

Just a snapshot that might be the exception to prove the rule.

This Kavanaugh fiasco is turning out to be a good trial run for just how effective the GOP influence machine is.

You can see the zone being flooded with conspiracies, blame the Democrats, putting the victim on trial, and for good measure, let's get the FBI involved.  All for a confirmation process for a Supreme Court Justice nominee's past black out drunk behavior and possible sexual assault.

In any other administration Kavanaugh would have been withdrawn weeks ago.

But the tribe is so well trained to defend their guy at all cost, regardless if wrongdoing is found.

Never mind that the alternative is just finding someone else.

For a Supreme Court Justice.

That's not the problem at all.  The reason the "right" is defending him against these accusations is because they simply don't believe them.  The left has cried wolf too many times.  It literally didn't matter who Trump nominated, the left was going to oppose them.  By doing so (and saying it openly) it undermined the credibility of all accusations and criticisms.stop-barrett-stop-kavanaugh-rally.jpg

You realize that's exactly what happened with Merrick Garland, right?

That's fair, and I was referring solely to that group in my social circle.

I have few words for that stupidity.

Did you think he would catch any grief for mocking Ford when he’s in his safe space (campaign rally)?

With everything going on, that rally should have been good ratings for Fox News, but they avoided it. Not a coincidence.

Please list all of the times the left cried wolf?

Was it Obama’s birth certificate? Hillary’s emails? Vince Foster? Benghazi? Tan suit? Fancy mustard? Pizzagate?

It's hard to take anyone on the right seriously when they complain about political tactics of the left considering the fact that the GOP engages in the exact same tactics.

Damn, I didn't realize the politics board was as liberal as Reddit. This is what I get for lurking the football and recruiting boards.

I know you’re bummed that QAnon got deleted, but I would like to offer you a hint: A lot of us are former Republicans who want the GOP wiped out and rebuilt with somebody other than Trump, Mitch, and Ryan leading the way.  And Linda Graham, although she will keep on winning re-election, I’m sure.

Which part?

I don’t parse words for those who enable sexual assault. That goes for Republicans and Christianity.

You are painting with too broad a brush.  Christianity, and religion generally, is obviously not always a force for evil.  Because bigots will often cloak their bigotry and hatred in their religion as a way of defending their shitty beliefs doesn't make religion intrinsically bad.

I am NOT a big player.

I am NOT  privy to the detailed internal discussions held by Washington Democrats.

I DO have opinions to express on the Internet.  (which you are free to disbelieve)

I don't have a problem with that, but you used language which heavily implied you knew these things, not that you think them.

It's also an issue in that you're justifying future lies by your side because you think and believe that the others side is prepared to lie unless there's a 5 step reason for why they didn't lie in a particular case. You made up an entire scenario in your head to justify being dishonest.

Religion is intrinsically bad because it teaches people to ignore critical thinking in favor of fairy tales.

Im not going to derail the thread about this but religion is flawed at a fundamental level.

I love the frequent claims of how "liberal" this board is.  Never mind the fact that it is full of (mostly) the same cast of characters that have been posting on Cloak Room for a decade or more . . . the same cast of characters that was probably 75% conservative, somewhat a split between Republican and self-declared Libertarian.

Now that the majority of those posters have witnessed the shitshow of the Trump administration and are pushing back AGAINST TRUMP (not "conservatism"), suddenly everyone's a "liberal".

No, dipshit.  Those people still espouse a similar ethos as they did 10 years ago.  They didn't move, the party moved, and they should be commended for speaking up.

Their complaints are disingenuous bullshit designed to sow the seeds so they can publicly justify using the tactics they're complaining about. Tahoe is over here bitching about Democrats intentionally conspiring to lob false sexual assault allegations at Republicans knowing full goddamned well that he voted for a President who actually did knowingly lob false and racist conspiracy allegations against Obama.

I'm not joking one bit when I predict that Tahoe will some day in the near future be justifying concentration camps for political enemies.

I'd think he'd try to be a president,  and be above petty shit, it's his entire schtick. I know that's impossible,..but I can dream.

I have to say I've been amazed at the number of women who've thrown Dr. Ford under the bus.

When the right makes that argument to the left, it's not persuasive.

When the left makes that argument to the right, it's not persuasive.

At the same time.. you want to know why the right doesn't believe the accusations, that is why..  It didn't matter who Trump was going to nominate, they expected the left to attack him and do ANYTHING to stop his confirmation.

The real craziness is probably going to start when Barrett gets nominated for RGB's seat.

This board probably started on HornsFans under Bush (shitshow of a war that led to a recession), then moved to Shaggy (BIRTHERISM! Kenyan Muslim Socialist! DURRR TRUMP!) to now.  If so, it's been a hell of a 2 decades of being a Republican. Woof.

I think you can take the progression of a lot of the same posters that have not gotten more liberal, but watched the GOP get more stupid and run further to the right.

Why wouldn't they do anything after what Mitch McConnell did to the Merrick Garland nomination?

Let’s not forget that Tahoe said he would support camps for immigrants where they’re completely indebted to their sponsors for food, shelter, and education on the old site.

Most posters haven’t even gotten more liberal. Most still believe in small government and fiscal responsibility.

Most posters don’t believe that sexual assault is ok. Or that kids in cages is ok. Or that conspiring with Russia is ok.

Its almost like some people are smart and others got conned. I’m sure we can all tell who’s who

So I take it you, too, are simply going to ignore that the left didn't take that "do ANYTHING" approach to Gorsuch's nomination? Why is it that Gorsuch didn't face what Kavanaugh faced.

Neil Gorsuch literally went to the same high school that Brett Kavanaugh attended and graduated only two years after him. If there were some sort of conspiratorial Democratic effort to attack any Trump nominee they could have used basically the same people to attack Gorsuch for made-up high school behavior that they used for Kavanaugh. If they had all these Georgetown Prep people just waiting for a Trump nominee then they could have pulled them out then.

The conspiracy theory makes zero sense whatsoever.

I would bet you a lot of us aren't as quite a liberal on some things as you might think.  But if you're looking for people who suck off and bow down to pieces of shit like Trump and Sanders and Graham, then you're probably best served staying with all the aggys.
