Trivial things that please the ever living shit out of you

Stopped at the Chevron at Coit and Bush on my way home from DFW airport yesterday to fill up after being in DC for a few days.  The regular grade price on the pump read $2.59/gallon.  Filled up my Chevy 1500 for a tad over $60.  Two weeks ago it took $110.

I benefitted from someone's fuck up.

That’s the problem with this.  Unless you don’t care about school districts, distance to job, or your friends and your kids friends, the best you can do is borrow against equity because if you sell you have to move somewhere else.   And staying in the same neighborhood and schools will likely cost as much to find a new place.

Yeah, our plan is to stay in the house until the kids are grown (about 15 years) then, use the house money to buy some land far away from any city possibly in Arkansas or Oklahoma where it is alot cheaper.

The smell of someone lighting a cigarette near me. Don't smoke. Don't like to. Don't judge anyone that does. But that first light that is half paper half tobacco. Fuck. That's nice.

Yup, used to like the smell of someone smoking Marlboro lights.

I quite smoking a few years ago. about 9 out of 10 times the smell of cigarettes makes me want to vomit. But that one other time it'll make my mouth water, it smells so good.

Also, pipe tobacco. love that smell

Yep, but cigarette smoke on clothes is hideous.

I had a small stack of mail that was wrapped in a rubber band. When I got to about 5 feet or so from the outbound mail tray, I gave it a nonchalant flick of the wrist and it flipped and twisted in the air and landed perfectly in the tray as if I had gently placed it there, right side up and facing the right way. Of course, nobody was around to witness it.

Probably back in the late 90’s I went to see a concert at a theater on campus. I went alone, I can’t remember who the band was. It’s all GA and there’s a sunken dance floor in front of the stage surrounded by tables above around the perimeter. I had a drink in my right hand and stopped on the stairs down to the dance floor. There was an empty beer bottle that someone had set on the narrow metal handrail and I bumped it with my right elbow. I spun around and grabbed it with my left hand before it could fall and shatter on the floor. There was a young couple sitting at a table nearby who were there to see it.

He said, “Nice catch!” I said, “How’s about that?” and threw the bottle in the trash.

My daughter now looks forward to us taking my kid to track practice.

She used to hate the idea of going, but now WANTS to go. The main difference now is her and I do stuff together. We just walk around the track while listening to podcasts. She's 10 now and her taste in podcasts has taken a creepy turn - she wanted to hear about the Amityville murders - but it's still nice to have that connection time with her until one day she murders me while I'm sleeping.

I don't understand women's fascination with murder-porn. Sounds like you're raising a normal female.

Awesome. As weird as it sounds, total bucket list event for me.

Ran with the bulls about 15 or 16 years ago*. Completely insane. That video looks a little different than when I ran-- if you didn't wear the traditional white pants and shirt with red bandana, the locals would trip you. Also, the video ended right when it gets the most dangerous-- once the bulls reach the arena and are placed in a pen, they are let out to run around one at a time, in an arena full of drunks and maniacs. You are lost in a surging crowd with no idea which way the bulls are coming from. It goes on and on, long after any adrenaline is left. And you can't get out, no exits, unless you climb the wall into the stands.

If you do run: wear good shoes, get there early (the holding pen at the start fills up fast), and if you fall, for god's sake, stay down. The bull will jump over you, but if you stand up in front of it, you will get hooked and tossed.

*edit: it was the summer of 2006. I remember because i ran with my UT baseball cap on.

I ran in the summer of 2011. It was the most intense, biggest adrenaline rush and greatest things I’ve ever done and would never want to do again. I was 30 at the time. Young enough to be a little crazy but old enough to know better. Looking back now at 42 with two kids, I can’t believe I did it.

I pussed out in the summer of ‘07. Ended up in Pamplona with my gf at the time (now wife) with every intention of running but we were broke and hadn’t made any plans so we didn’t have any place to stay. Partied all night and briefly slept in some random park that was far enough away from all the broken bottles.

By the time it was time to run I was still half in the bag from sangria and the hangover was beginning. Girlfriend talked me out of it and I didn’t fight too hard. Still one of the best times of my life though.

We left from there and got a hotel in San Sebastian which was also incredible. Bucket list retirement spot once we win the lotto.

San Sebastian was amazing.  Best place I had tapas and the first place I tried surfing, would love to go back one day.
