4” of fresh powder on the last day of our ski trip even though there was none in the forecast.

Wish it had arrived on the first day, but still awesome for the kids (and me) to learn how to ski on powder.

Also my daughter picking up skiing really quickly. She switched from snowboarding to skiing last year and was doing easy blues in 3 days. She is crushing blues now with the instructor saying she’s ready for black diamond runs.

Coming back from our ski trip, my wife booked a hotel called Fontainebleau (in Vegas). Never heard of it, it’s far away from the main hotels, and across the street from Circus Circus. Suffice to say, my expectations were really low.

But it’s actually really really nice on the inside  I’d put it a bit below Aria, and above some of the more established hotels which have become a bit dingy (looking at you Venetian).

Would definitely stay here again next time we drive out to Utah

Cooked dinner with my dad. Don't get to make dinner for him often enough.

Cornish hens, potatoes and green beans. A simple dinner I know he will enjoy.

Making the evening better, my wife got up early and made him fresh scones and a loaf of bread. Dude does not want for anything but he remains a very simple person who finds pleasure in simple things. Home baked bread is one of those.

I hope to emulate him if I make it to 84. Ain't much he has not seen or experienced.

Great way to spend the last weekend of 2024. It was a real rough year on the family.

Damn that sounds good. I need a new hobby! What is the model? My wife makes chocolate already and I grow strawberries. Now I just need a cow. Why not?

Not my best work but it’ll do. Not serving it until tonight so I will let it finish setting up in the deep freezer. Vanilla with cinnamon. If I have time I will put together some homemade caramel sauce that I have been tinkering with.

I am in my mid-50s (Gen X, holla!), and this is the first pen that I know that I have personally used every drop of ink from. Mid-year I bought a pack of these OG bic pens, and have used this particular pen for my morning Bible study/journaling. No one else has used it.

Sure, I’ve had many, many pens stop working for lack of ink. But I don’t know if I’m the one that used all the ink, or if it just stopped working. This one I know that no one else used, and I used every drop.

BTW, the OG bic is better than any other pen. I’ve used thousand dollar pens, fountain pens, calligraphy pens, gel pens, etc., etc.  The OG bic black, blue, and red are the best.

My Zebra extra fine laugh in your direction. Plus they are metal so I can shank a bitch. Next are TUL .7

I do a lot of editing and use all colors. Green is the one I have the hardest time finding, never have found a good one except for the Pilot's.

I am a pen nerd. The few occasions wife is able to drag me to Target (the French version) she knows she can find me in the pen aisle when I wander off.

Don't get me started on Notebooks. They piss me off so bad I have gone back to a metal clipboard with white paper.

We should start a separate thread to compare our collective pen-related neuroses.

If you need a cover for your notebooks, I can't help, but the Docket Gold brand of notepads are worth paying a little extra.

Change to 1mm and you are correct.

Philistine.

0.5mm is as fat as I go (Pilot Precise v5, and only when I need to write fast). 0.4mm (Pilot Hi-Tec-C) is where it's at.

Uniball Vision Micro is also acceptable. Anything else might as well be one of those fat crayons for the dumb kids.

Remove the little blue plug on the top and now it doubles a spit baller.

G2's would be my vote.  I'd go with the Zebra, but they are just damn skinny.

I use pens for... writing checks to my gardener. That's pretty much it.

For everything else, I've switched to using an iPad, stylus and OneNote.

I just called to check, and my jury duty scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled, pleasing me greatly.  I value juries, and am always willing to serve on one.  I've served on seven so far.  The last one was so bad, though, that I'd just as soon not do so again, if I can help it.

People who try to get out of jury duty shouldn't get to complain about other juries' verdicts, but they do...

Man, had something similar happen to me last year.  But it was a 2 amp fuse.  I couldn't find one anywhere, so I replaced the 2 amp with the next to smallest I could find, a 5 amp, and fried my Wyze thermostat at the time.

Turns out the contactor was bad in the outdoor unit which was blowing that fuse.  Replaced the contactor, got a replacement t-stat (thanks @Captain Ron), and was able to get it running again without breaking the bank by any means.

And for those of you that are handy enough and in Austin, Ferguson HVAC is a complete life-saver, as you can get basic stuff easily from them (contactors, run-start capacitors, etc) and avoid paying 5x for the crap the HVAC tech is going to try to sell you.

Everyone should have a spare capacitor and contactor for their A/C. It will probably cost you less than $50 for both from Amazon. AmRad and CapDog brand capacitors are made in the USA.

CSB: My second job out of college was working for a smaller city.  I'd assist a lot during the periodic trial dates at city hall.  Sitting in the back room waiting for the day's docket to commence, there was a back and forth between the judge and a defendant's attorney.  The attorney left, and the judge started going off.  Basically, he said you've gotta be a complete fucking moron to take a case to jury trial (in this instance, some prick ran a stop sign and was fighting it.)  You just got a jury box full of the 6 idiots who couldn't get out of jury duty, and you're arguing over running a damned stop sign (not word for word, but dang close).  And just as they're seating the jury for the trial, they came to an agreement and let the initial jury off the hook.  Will always remember that when considering taking ANYTHING to court.  /CSB

I'd carry 'em if I didn't have so many different cap sizes.  Just the two at the house have vastly different sizes.  And the one-size-fits-all AmRad Turbo cap is 6x the cost of a regular cap.

Then buy two Chinese ones for $10/ea. The Turbo Cap is still probably 1/3 of what an A/C will charge you to install the $10 cap that he carries on his truck.
