I guess it's possible, given the remaining schedule isn't a gauntlet, but this team looks done.

I'm assuming no way we beat bama or kentucky and I can't see us going 4-1 against the final 5.

but yes, if Tre Johnson goes nuclear it is possible.

10 years from now we’re going to be baffled at how we missed the tournament with Tre Johnson

No, because we’ll remember that Terry was the coach.

It’ll be because he was a freshman and he will only get better but I would take a a lesser more developed player like the pg for Tennessee over johnson

Kind of like how we only made the second round with KD. However, that team would boat race this one.

It's a toss up at this point.

It certainly seems like it's less than 50/50 now. We're not beating the teams who are also on the bubble consistently enough to inspire confidence.

If Texas makes it, it's most likely as a play-in participant. Texas will likely finish 7-11 in league play.

I mean Tre is part of the problem. It's extremely difficult to be a good college team when everything you do centers around a 19 year old.

hey but we got him!

I guess if people forget that Rodney Terry was our coach 10 years from now.  there is nothing surprising AT ALL about this.

missing the tourney

Very likely true. Texas doesn't have a good enough non-con résumé to finish 7-11 and make it safely.

Not sure 7 regular season conference wins is still in the cards...

The main thing causing losses like this is not being very good. We miss Weaver more than some fans think, but even with him we're short on playmakers at both ends.

And yet, we'd be OK with a better coach.

The bubble is looking extremely weak (seems to always be the case since they expanded the field to 68).

My guess is 7-11 gets us a trip to Dayton.

It certainly can be. UGA and OU (who Texas has already beaten) are winnable games at home. That leaves one more to get to seven. However, I really think this team needs 8, with one of those coming against Bama or Kentucky to really justify their hopes of being safely in.

the nebulous "number of teams from one conf" is going to limit us.  our resume is pretty shitty at 7-11

When did Texas play Georgia?

We’ll see. Our NET and Q1 wins will compare well with the teams we will likely be competing against.

while Johnson will likely be a better pro, I will probably remember him as it relates to Texas like I do Myles Turner.

Definitely a hot take.

Turner scored double figures once in his last 10 games at Texas and Rick Barnes didn’t even want to play him by the end of the season.

Johnson’s legacy will be much better than that.

a lot of that had to do with Barnes...

it isn't a shock that was Barnes last season at Texas.

Broken record:  the ISU transfers are not good.  Not even average SEC good

They are not the only two. What do we do at this point when we know what the issue is, offense and the coach🤷‍♂️

Yeah but they did that thing where they give me hope again. Win 4 out of 6, beat OU and A&M. Maybe we aren't so bad?

Then...

And we are back to deciding the season is over again.

We will see if the pattern repeats itself.

This is definitely coaching.  The coaches has a play where Tre gets the ball on one side of the court. The rest of the team is standing, watching, and eating popcorn on the opposite side, waiting to see what Tre is going to do.  This has happened in several games. smh
