I never seem to be in town for SXSW but AISD's shimmy of spring break has changed that.  I'm not buying a wristband but plan on seeing some free shows here on there.  What do y'all have planned?

So far...

Sips and Sounds Day 2 at Auditorium Shores (paid event - was cheap - https://www.sipssoundsfest.com/lineup )

Most likely SoCo Stomp at C-Boys (free... five days of mostly local bands which is cool with me - lineup is https://timelyapp-prod.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/images/54714969/3rd Annual SOCO Stomp_8Oaj.jpg

Probably South by San Jose (no lineup yet - here's last year's - https://www.bunkhousehotels.com/hotel-san-jose/south-by-san-jose )

Will add some free shows that focus on specific countries and some unofficial shows.  If I pay cover anywhere, I'm going for cheap. Don't care if there are free drinks or not.  I'm there for the music.

Oh... save this -https://austinindependentmusic.org/shows/day/2025-02-13

I'd like to see Scrappy + Beaver, and I've heard The Stayres are great.  Plus, Tommy Stinson.  I might try to make that day.

I've stopped by this several years (but not last year).  Always some entertaining acts, and there's a chance of seeing a band before they hit it big (e.g., Alabama Shakes, Kaleo).

I never cared much for Edie Brickell, but saw her at San Jose in 2019 and she put on a really great show.

I usually like to start on a Friday with brunch at Perlas before hanging out at San Jose for a couple hours, and then go back on Saturday.

Signed up for this one... need to dig to see if its worth my time. Seems a little too country-adjacent for my taste but I don't think that's the case up and down the lineup...

I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with exactly none of those artists.

I'm fine being familiar with none... plug'em into Spotify and start discovering.  That's how ACL is for me... lineup comes out and I get to work.  Good thing is the more I do that, the more familiar the lineups become and I don't focus on just the headliners.

Are these intentional bands? Domestic bands? A mix? Just Texas bands?

I don’t keep up with music like I keep up with sports and football recruiting… but I think the fact that I haven’t heard of one band on that list is pretty revealing as to how much effort I put into to following new music.

Same questions for…

Austin Rhythm one... mostly unknown to me so I feel confident most of what you're seeing here is not local.  For the one at Colton House, I recognize a handful... go see Rattlesnake Milk.  Anyway, I personally love discovering new bands.

This one's good and local... have seen three bands on here... will be interesting to see the set times.

Man, I miss SXSW.  I usually got a free wristband through work (AV equipment provider) but actually preferred the free day shows.  I'd go on https://austin.showlists.net/ and map out my day.  Start with whatever venue had free breakfast tacos or bloody marys then work my way over to venues that had free Lone Star.  I'd pass out around 8pm and start the cycle over again the next day.

What do they have to do with Hope Solo’s vajayjay?

How does one RSVP for that event?

I went to the Mohawk page and found the event on their calendar.  It says you can get two tickets but it only allowed me to check out with one in my cart.  "Bought" one and then went back and redid it with my wife's name.   Seemed to work.

Here's another one for country/bluegrass fans.  Tony Kamel is solid... he's from my part of town in Houston.  Good guy, talented.  Sentimental Family Band making a name for themselves.  This one is free, as well.
