is it just me, but have pro-palestinian protests vanished completely since the election?

it's enough to make me wonder if the protests were organized by a group whose primary goal was to deliver Trump to the White House by undermining his support

I wondered the same thing.  The relative silence, at least in terms of physical protests, is remarkable.

One of these days society will figure out how to recognize and expose anonymous Internet actors and neutralize this toxin to public discourse.  Or, it won't and we at least get to say we lived at humankind's apex moment, whenever that was exactly.  2006 Rose Bowl perhaps?

This. Tells ya who the mainstream media wanted to help win, doesn't it?

For profit industrial media complex is a fundamental part of the problem.

Weather in areas where the protests would be largest combined with a media that moves on to the next news cycle plays a fairly outsized role in coverage. In 2020 almost all protesting in NYC came to a halt as it got cold and never really returned. I participated all summer and into the early fall in protests that year.

Protest or not, the Palestinians who no longer have a home are largely screwed unless a group of countries come together to fill the gap in leadership we are abdicating. Same as 2016 except with more cruelty this time around.

All this.

are the first few posts here conspiracy theorizing that the MAGATs funded and managed Pro-Palestine protests? But now that MAGATs are elected, they don’t need to anymore?

beyond it being a brain worms thing to think, much less say outloud, if one were to really believe this, what would be the underlying motivation? MAGATs are racist and antisemitic and nazis and so they hate the Jews and would secretly support anything that erodes Israel’s power?

No, it split the Dems.

And gave certain folks another set of browns to hate on.  But even if it didn't split the Dems, or certain groups of Dems, it presented a fringe-y issue like trans rights,* that make Dems look "out of touch" and "woke."

*to be clear, this is not to minimize that issue, but rather to place it in context as one affecting a relatively small portion of the population and being virtually irrelevant to most aspects of American life

Agree. And it dominated discussion in a lot of circles who can neither find palestine on a map, or the middle east for that matter.

Just like none of them new anyone who was trans. But.... well here we are.

The map comment is one I always think of because I loved Geography as a kid and did UIL competitions in that and spelling in my childhood. When someone is passionately defending a group of people in a foreign land it’s best TO ACTUALLY KNOW WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED AT. Look at a map and at least familiarize yourself with the rest of the world.

One of the things that almost none of the owners of any American media outlets will say out loud is that Trump and his band of racist trolls being back in the big boy chair is good for ratings and that's good for the bottom line. More people tune in to see the illiterate old man say crazy things than the alternative.

I mostly will read The Guardian or the website I subscribe to called Defector. I think there are some people here who are Defector members. It's sports, pop culture, animals, science, politics and really whatever else they want to write blogs about. It's the old Deadspin staff that quit and they've made it four and a half years now with no advertising. I will try and post one of David Roth's political blogs sometime soon. He is probably the best American political writer that there is right now. I met him at one of their birthday celebrations. He's a good guy with a gift for writing about Politics and his Mets. He also does their weekly podcast with the lead writer for the site Drew Magary. I would highly suggest some of y'all look at that site if you want to support writers doing some high quality work that is enjoyable to read.

The protests have always been the biggest losers of all international students on any college campus since the start of time. Its the single most manipulated/gaslit community out there.

Social media highlighting the vocal, but small, Muslim groups that proactively went against Kamala hurt a lot of support. I imagine some people still support Palestinians but they don’t want to be shoulder to shoulder with someone who may have helped Trump win.

whether it’s orchestrated or not, it’s a good lesson in that the best strategy in beating a movement is to split it. Whether thru active or passive means.

Maybe it is just human nature for us to worry over something we can not control.  Now that we are faced with the total destruction of the society we once new, we have something new to worry about.  Good luck to all of us.

I have an Apple News subscription so I read some  of the traditional papers - wapo, WSJ, NYT, LA times, also guardian, and others occasionally the tier two liberal (see below). I’ll listen to NPR and BBC in the car, that’s the sum total of my news consumption these days.

Separately, I don’t think the liberal rags - like slate, vox, Atlantic, etc were reporting to get him elected, but I won’t watch the TV shows. I have no doubt CNN ran its programming to influence the election, simply to get more rage watchers. Not interested.
