Oh they’ve never followed politics in their lives, but it’s not limited to “common clay” people. It’s anyone who regularly and exclusively consumes right wing media in general. That shit ain’t “political commentary.” That shit is pure theatre. It’s professional wrestling done in very poor taste.

Except this is poor taste professional wrestling done the old way. This is maintaining kayfabe at its absolute best. They have convinced their regular viewers that they discuss politics and political issues and issues of political importance and politics politics politics. They’re very effective at conveying that message.

There’s a chicken and egg issue here too - they already hate trans and gay people - knowing that the Trump brand of fascism and oligarchy latched on to that and legitimized it to get the votes to seize power for their oligarchy reasons. The byproduct is legitimizing the hate which emboldens the violence. Trump actually doesn’t give a fuck. If he could find enough zealots on the left to maintain power he’d be filling his cabinet with us trannies and queers and telling the Christians to fuck off. Purely transactional for his power grab and grift.

1) I don’t have enough details about this horrific crime to know what role, if any,  anti-trans political rhetoric played.

2) Of course that rhetoric diffuses into all of society, but a cursory examination of the social media profiles of the accused only don’t indicate any sort of political awareness

3) what those profiles do indicate is that they are a mix of lesbian women and male sex criminals who live on the margins of society.

Until we know more, this case doesn’t seem like the right vehicle for a dialogue about how our politics are causing anti-trans violence.

That was my question on the OP when they dropped the trump line.  What's the connection?

and by asking that, I'm just inquiring as to what political connection there is.  These people suck and are the lowest form of life as we know it, and acted against a trans person, so all folks who might not agree 100% with a certain position are a threat,  so THAT's the connection, amIright?

Counterpoint.  Although there is a rational basis for objecting to "biological men" competing in "biological women's" sports, that is not why the trans issue is being pushed by certain political groups.  The real reason is to demonize and dehumanize trans people and to deflect attention from the fact that trans people have a right to exist unmolested as a fundamental human right.

A sort of analog situation was some years ago when steroids seemed to permeate baseball, and doping cycling.  No one made a partisan political issue out of that, it was largely left to MLB and the sports regulating bodies.  Because that is not an inherently governmental issue.  But it's not any "fun" to demonize cheating baseball players or cyclists as a group, and doesn't serve any political purpose.

As noted, the right has thoroughly adopted the politics of demonizing and dehumanizing minorities, because it works among a certain segment of the population.

When you have ostensible national leaders squawking incessantly about threats posed by "trannies," and others, it enables and emboldens the real pieces of shit, like this bunch, to do shit like this.

Those without any political awareness seem to have been quite influential in the recent election, see, e.g. leopards eating faces.

And there seems to be no shortage of one or more marginalized group routinely shitting on even more marginalized groups in the recent body politic.  Encouraged by said leopards.

The Japanese didn’t start out with a death cultist mindset. But all it took was a little push and normalizing of it to get it going. Celebrate heroic (ancestor)figures like Minamoto Tametomo who first started the suicide instead of capture and the rest of them followed suit.

The non-stop anti-trans ads and accusations creeps into people’s minds. Just as propaganda does.

The history books are filled with examples of this, heck we only recently had a massacre in Myanmar that was caused by these lies being perpetuated.

Would you like me to go on with examples?

I missed my denial of the atrocities associated with this act.

What I take issue with is the immediate politization of the discussion, in some attempt to equate any opposition to an aspect of trans life with endorsement of rape and murder.  That is exactly where the inclusion of politics is attempting to take it.

There are different points on the spectrum of the discussion.  We as a society shun that notion with vigorous effort these days.

That being said, trying to connect the "Girls basketball should be bio girls playing against bio girls" with "We are the lowest forms of humanity and barely qualify on the front, so we will torture and kill another innocent person" is tiresome and just freaking lazy.

Fucking stupid post is stupid. The most powerful person in the world spews hate about trans people. In your second point you even acknowledge that and the societal impact it has. So why are you acting like hate spewed from the top has nothing to do with this? They don’t have to be politically engaged to feel empowered to do this because of the current dialogue around trans people.

First, I’m not acting like it has nothing to do with it, I said I can’t tell “what role, if any” it played.
HOWEVER, the reason why I’m making that point is because I think it dehumanizes the victim of a crime to turn them into a symbol of an issue, and is even more dehumanizing and ghoulish when we don’t know yet that the issue was involved.

If the facts of the crime or the perpetrators indicated some nexus to the general environment of anti-trans violence, that would be one thing. If the facts emerge that there is a nexus, the dialogue will make sense. But right now it doesn’t.
I mean fuck it, if the facts don’t matter, why not just use pick things at random? Old person gets hit by a car? Anti-trans political rhetoric. You stepped in dogshit at the park? Stochastic terrorism. It’s just this war and that lying son of a bitch Johnson.

When, not if, but when right-wing political rhetoric gets people killed I’m ready to assign blame. But it’s very telling that the name of the victim, Sam Nordquist, hasn’t been mentioned since the first post on this thread, and he deserves to have his story told,  not just get relegated to the role of “victim” in the story of the Trump era.

Oh I should have figured another strawman argument coming.   The rhetoric leading to violence has been long established and only debated by those whom are ashamed to be affiliated with the acts.   So the problem is not the children slaughtered in the school and the feigned bewilderment at the cause/solution to this but really the issue is the people wanting to stop it.  Let's shame Beto for bringing up the obvious when the people who cause it and are unwilling to stop it, console each other and get pissy with the man who calls them out.

Will no one rid me of this turbulent poster?

I think this is his way of trying to mean that trans people should have their right to life (how fucking brave) but that their flaunting it (on TV, because these people cannot ever live without fucking TV) is what should be discussed.   Additionally books which are aimed at inclusivity and normalizing this to children should also be shunned, because we need to not indoctrinate our children in acceptance and diversity, but allow parental xenophobia to dominate.

But that is just my guess.  I could be wrong.

Just saw this reported on CBS News Mornings. They gave it about 15 seconds as they read off various top stories. They gave a little more time to the subsequent story of Cardinal Timothy Nolan, archbishop of New York, giving his homily in Canada after his flight to Ireland was grounded due to bad weather, which included video.

Also, on this, I generally subscribe to the notion that we shouldn't ascribe "hate-y" motivations to crimes until the evidence compels us to do so, as Bozo points out.

I'm also a bit uncomfortable with a separate category of "hate crimes," as opposed to a sentencing enhancement when hate or any other particularly odious or heinous motive is proven.

But, I came to these conclusions at a time long ago when I didn't think hatred permeated our society to as great an extent as the empirical evidence has shown me.  It may be time to revisit my thinking here.

We're living in a world where plane crashes and bridge disasters are blamed on diversity initiatives, so kindly go fuck yourself, slorch, for questioning whether a decade of the majority political party accusing trans people of raping kids in bathrooms and all sorts of other heinous shit might have played a fucking role in emboldening a buch of shitheads to torture a trans person.

Meh.  Fuck you for blaming politics when the folks have a track record of being incredibly terrible folks.

the political angle is lazy.  Some folks are limited to that purview.  It's a minor problem, in comparison with the tragedy itself.  In 75 posts and a 24 hour news cycle, not a shred of evidnce linking this to political motivations has been posted.

No sir.  Fuck you.

Personally I was much more appalled that trans people were blamed for these things, but I also think forcing this horrific crime into that framework is at best premature and also dehumanizing to the victim, because those thoughts are not mutually exclusive.

I hate dipping into CR waters.

I cannot and will not speculate on the political leanings of this group of dirtbags (death penalty if everything is true), nor opine on any motivations for what they did, but if you think this violence against trans people is limited to far-right sickos...

I'd suggest looking up Muhlaysia Booker, Tiffany Thomas, and LaKendra Andrews - all black transwomen who were murdered in Dallas. And I'm willing to bet not a single murderer voted Republican.

Hate is not limited to just one side, and not all crime is politically motivated. Nor is violence against transpersons new with Donald Trump. And it won't go away when he's long gone.

Sorry to interrupt your hate party.

Not real sure who said it was limited to a single political party. Demented people don’t need a party to commit an atrocity like this.

HOWEVER, there is only one party in America right now openly trying to make life hell for trans folks. That rhetoric can seep into someone’s mind whether they support that party or not. Normalizing hate can give people the idea that crimes like this are for some twisted greater good scenario they have in their head.

Tethered to each hand a child

The sun is soft, the air is mild.

Walking to the park ahead

Upon the left a high voice said,

'Fire ants, I see the mound!'

Pointing to the object found.

'And over there's a butterfly,'

Continued the child's excited cry.

A tug on the right as progress halted

And a louder voice exalted

'Stop, stop I needs a stick,

To poke the mound, oh where's a brick!?'

It's undisputed facts that unimpressive straight white males force black men to murder transgenders due to societal pressures from wage gap disparity and institutionalized racism. Listen and dont question college professors for once in your life.

Somehow this thread pretends this is hard to understand. It’s not about politics, it’s about hate. One political party spews hate from the biggest platform in the world. So yes, they carry blame.
