I'm glad I moved everything to SGOV & GLD. Now I'm wishing I went 100% into GLD instead of 25%. It's up almost 2% today.  Gruntled and disgruntled at the same fucking time.

We don't disagree on much.  Where I am at, the average Walmart shopper is not looking for a dopamine hit.  The average Walmart shopper is shopping there because they have to. Their wages are flat relative to inflation, but their housing is rapidly getting more and more expensive as relatively wealthy outsiders (I'm one of them) pay inflated prices divorced from what the local economy would dictate what a house on the hill built by people with real skills would cost.

I noted that the disadvantaged are not part of this, but I think you are underestimating the average Walmart customer. Or just extrapolating what you see to a bigger world. There’s plenty Wallys in affluent areas too. But I mean say Target if you want. Or Amazon or Temu in the modern world, it's all the same phenomenon. Shopping Malls back in the day etc etc...

My wife works for a wine supplier/distributor.  Their largest (by far) portfolio is from Italy.  They're fucked.  But the owners are Trumpers, so maybe this belongs in the Leopards thread.

I'm going to go snap up some CdP and other Rhones plus Right Bank Bordeaux's this weekend. It's going to be a long 4 years.

We need some clarity on when ‘Murrica was great. If it’s 1956, the DJIA closed just under 500 that year. At the rate we’re going we’ll be “great aagain” right about the end of the year.

Why doesn't Trump just say the IRS isn't going to collect any income taxes at all?

Because some chumps like me will file their taxes faithfully anyway I guess.  Someone has to pay for TFG's new Tesla.

That's quite the Kafkaesque turn.  Did Kafka play 5d chess too?

Because they still need you and I to pay taxes for the rich.

I don't even have to turn on Fox News to know they are telling people like my Dad that this is Biden's fault.

Soon as I read the news about the possible tariffI ordered 6 bottles of my jam bubbly, Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle No. 26.   I want to have my Trump is dead celebration without it costing me a second mortgage.

I’d gladly accept a second mortgage if it meant that cocksucker and his ghouls were out of our lives.

It wouldn’t be a Trump presidency of I didn’t find myself at the goddamned HEB panic-buying some commodity as it gets cleaned off the shelves. At least it’s champagne this time and not toilet paper.

I'm just going to assume you mean continue to shop at HEB.

Well sure. I love HEB.

But also like buying from the farmers market and local producers.

It is ok to have regional variation and flavor.

It's actually preferred.

Corporate farming and agriculture has been on an amoral and unsustainable trajectory. International corporate farming and agriculture and industry takes it to 11.

Some of you liberals have totally the lost the beat cause orange man bad.

I guess sorry that your iphone that provides you with access to all the information available to humanity instantaneously may cost you $3000 instead of $1500 cause it isn't produced in a factory in china where they have to line the exterior with nets to keep suicidal people from jumping off the roof.

Is the shipping from Napa cost prohibitive? I got some extra allocations that I am looking to shed next year if you are interested.

So where can I find out when my local iPhone manufacturing facility opens and I can buy local?

Hopefully sooner rather than later. Requires a certain amount of consumer resiliency certainly.

PRESS RELEASE

February 24, 2025

Apple will spend more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years

Teams and facilities to expand in Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington

Plans include a new factory in Texas, doubling the U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, a manufacturing academy, and accelerated investments in AI and silicon engineering

Apple bringing over some of their current factory conditions certainly wouldn’t be part of the deal. Especially with reduced government oversight.
