A year ago today the DJIA was at 38,596.  We're now at 38,395 (and dropping).  Down from a peak of just over 45,000 on December 4.

Bidenomics!

Yeah.....the layers of impact here are staggering, truly.  Just some fascinating ones on a personal level:

1) My son is the only American in a class on Transatlantic Foreign Relations at a university in Germany right now.  He relates that damned near every class, as they are discussing the latest globally devastating misstep by the US, the class turns to him and says "so....what do you think?"  He tries to explain the American perspective, but so many times, he just ends with "I've got nothing.  It's just so stupid."  At least his classmates seem kind and sympathetic.

2) And yes, both kids have had multiple conversations where they have to explain that half of America is victims in this whole deal, as big or bigger victims than folks in the rest of the world.

3) On a selfish personal level, I'm kind of pissed about what this is likely to do with our plans for summer 2026, when the World Cup is coming to Texas (Dallas and Houston).  We were already talking with various groups of friends overseas about coming in for that.  We'd all get together, barbecues, the beach, attend matches, just have a great gathering.  Now....I'm more and more convinced that they aren't interested in supporting the US economy in any way, they aren't interested in the risks of being randomly abused/detained by our CBP/immigration system...they are just bunkering, and reaching the "yeah, we love y'all, Brisket family....but we're not willing to travel to the US right now" point.  And I can't fucking blame them.

We are becoming a pariah state, and we fucking deserve it.  All of it.  And more.

The world cup ain't coming dude.

Fair.  Seriously, it may well be on the table.  Simply because it's tough to stage a tournament when there's a war going on in Panama, Greenland, Canada, and Iran, involving half the potential teams/countries.

This.  We're only 2 months in and people have largely stopped visiting the U.S.  By another 14 months from now, there's no way athletes from other countries will agree to travel here.

The U.S. should have the WC and Olympics yanked.  Or, at least have all the Western democracies boycott them.

That is exactly what Trump and his Russian backers want.

I don't think so. The infrastructure investment is going to be pretty minimal. Virtually all of the sites already exist.

Yeah, calling it a "financial disaster" was hyperbole on my part. I came across this article the other day that didn't leave me feeling all that optimistic about the chances of breaking even. But you're right, it's probably not fair to compare to other games when they had to build the infrastructure and venues to host.

Yeah. This is what I was taking about. Political Calvinball. We cannot agree on the common ground that a good economy is good.

Just like the first term there are going to be more and more things out there explaining why all this insanity is a great genius thing and you should love it actually. And people will believe it.

So if you are waiting around for people to wake up and the day will be saved: it won't. They are too far gone.

Yeah, 20-30% of the country will be convinced that losing their money is a good thing. But all the Benny Johnsons in the world aren't going to convince the "independent" or the swing voter that going from "elect this president to save the economy and usher in an age of prosperity" to "actually, you're going to get fucked financially but don't complain" is a winning argument.

Yet, just a few months ago, ALL the Trumpkins told me the election was all about inflation, and the price of eggs, and gas prices, and "my 401k was better under Trump!"  Literally all of those things, they stated as bedrock, foundational reasons for electing Trump.

Stupidest, most dishonest, fucking self-sodomizing timeline in history.  And we have to go through it with them.

Man, I was gonna expose them to some CULTURE.  They've never seen mexican-coonass redneckified beaching.  Little bit of crabbing, fishing for specks in the surf, drinking cold beer out in the hot waves, grilling steaks for dinner on a fire smokey enough to drive away many of the skeeters.  L-I-V-I-N, motherfucker.  They won't know what hit 'em.

Remember, this absolute complete and total fucking dumbshit thinks that if we have a trade surplus instead of a trade deficit, WE WIN!

Of course, having read zero fucking history, and not able to realize that trade deficit/surplus has next to nothing to do with whether our economy is actually good or shitty, this dumbass would think that.  Here's a good glimpse at a period when we were obviously SUPER-WINNING, because we had a trade surplus:  THE FUCKING GREAT DEPRESSION.

Ben.  Fucking.  SHAPIRO.  Is sharing shit like this.  EVERYONE WITH A LICK OF SENSE KNOWS THIS.  But not Mango Mussolini and his Band of Merry Dipshit Sycophants.

For the 100th time, what is amazing is NOT just that America's economy and world standing are in ruins....it's not that it's happened in mere DAYS....it's that it is ENTIRELY fucking self-inflicted.  We pulled the cord on the suicide vest, so we could celebrate the shrapnel wounding people in fucking Cambodia and Lesotho.

I flipped to KLBJ twice out of curiosity.  They were up in arms about a woman that keyed a Tesla and was arrested. The owner just wanted the repairs so no charges pressed.  Just outrage that a crime is not being prosecuted to the max.

No mention of the crimes against the global economy.

I saw a video on Bluesky that offers a bit of nuance to the reaction of folks in others countries. At least in Great Britain. One of the most interesting quotes was that it is much harder to censor the press there, was the claim, and as a result, the protests across our country are making an impression overseas.
