Agreed, and thank you to consumer culture and all of the other shit that contributed as well.

But that was an actual crisis, even if it should have been avoided.  And it's understandable.  Americans bought more home than they could afford, salesmen were greedy and helped people get loans they shouldn't have, banks let that happen, regulators looked the other way, CDO's and CMO's got all fucked up with lower credit tranches than they should have had, so investors were exposed to more risk than they thought, and everybody looked the other way because they were making money or otherwise getting what they wanted.  None of that should have happened, but it all makes sense.  It's just people being people.

This is a crisis created out of thin air, entirely by one man.  And it only makes sense if he actually wants to destroy the world economy, or if his narcissism has advanced to the level of a mental disorder that forces him to hurt people to prove his own superiority.

And we're completely fucked either way.

Well, I assuaged myself by flipping over to watch the aggy baseball team do its impression of the United States: they just got both run-ruled AND no-hit, losing to Tennessee 10-0. It was magnificent…until I realized the metaphor.

They got no-hit AND run-ruled. Oh Aggie.

Not a salve for the women's team getting shrekt by the gamecocks, but that certainly did take the edge off

And, fault for 08 was pretty systemic, sort of starting with Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and I don't need to remind anyone which Republican signed that into law. /s

Rarely can you find an event like this and lay it at the feet of a single person.

Oneplus going to dominate the world now.  Those Chinese or Malaysian factories aren’t just going to stop making their iPhones, they’ll just be sold under a new name.

And those phones will cost $4000 now that they’ll have to pay American kids $3.00 an hour to assemble them, after spending billions on a domestic manufacturing site.

Even the Chinese learned that the Soviet system was fucked up and they adjusted to a hybrid system that is open for business but oppressive on population.

These morons are grasping at straws. The US decadence of the last 50 years is coming home to roost and their answer is to expedite the decline. The country is going to collapse economically as payment for all those decades of billionaires offloading their fair share to deficit spending. After all of this the foreign investment in US deficit spending, with Japan and China at the top, is going to decline drastically. The Fed will have no way to pay for deficit spending as it has been. What comes next is Argentina style money printing and hyper inflation.

All this in a country that has over 330 million people with at least 80 to 100 million that blame Latinos and other minorities for their problems, about 65 million Latinos, about 50 million blacks, and 400 million guns.

I mean I know you’re a general idiot, but you’re now a financial idiot. Lax ass regulations on banks was fomented in Clinton era. Everyone knows this. You are not smart.

Poll they just threw up on MSNBC. Percentage of Americans who disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy: 52%.

So basically half. That's it.

In the preface to that, he posits that 1955 America was objectively better than 2025 America.  First, that's a questionable assumption on any number of levels.  More importantly, though, the world has vastly changed since 1955, and it would take far more than merely "restoring" manufacturing to reproduce 1955.

He's a fucking idiot fantasist.

"Although the survey was conducted prior to Trump’s announcement of a 10-percent base tax on all goods coming into the U.S. earlier this week, the president has promised to implement sweeping tariffs since his presidential campaign.

Fifty-four percent of voters, per the survey, said they are against the president’s levies on imported goods while 42 percent of survey respondents said they supported the measure."

Clinton, Greenspan, and Phil Gramm didn’t. Blaming ‘08 on W. is an opinion. A bad one, but I can see some culpability. Blaming lax bank regulations on W is retarded.

Well, a lot of Magats, that's who.

But even if you confine it just to the economy, it's a bad comparison.

America started sucking when all the workers outsourced their jobs to latin America and SE Asia. If the US workers wouldn’t have been so generous in giving away their jobs America would still be great.

Glass-Steagall began unraveling long before Clinton got in office, but yeah, his signature made it official. And although lax banking regulations weren't W.'s fault, he sure didn't do anything to get out in front of the crisis that unfolded in 2008.

Vast chunks of the American South had boot heel of Italy type poverty well past the 1950s.  Not just black communities either.

Fundamentally, we cannot return to a world where America is the only modern economy not devastated by war and the loss of generations of men. Trying to recreate that world is indeed fabulist.

It’s early.  The entire body politic is not going to feel horrible even though sepsis has started in those small holes in your colon.    Give us some time as the sepsis spreads throughout the body, and things like fatigue, pain, nausea and other organs not located near the original sepsis entry point into the body cavity respond in similarly negative ways.

Dear Leader said that the patient needs some time to recover from the surgery. He forgot to add that the surgeon is Peter Navarro operating on the colon while drunk with a rusty knife from his fishing tackle box.

Patience grasshopper, we are going to get there.
