I didn't like kamala as a candidate and still just bought in and enthusiastically voted for her. I knew she wouldn't be a train wreck and the thing that would piss me off the most about her is that she actually didn't get anything done except a few key things. She would have been a boring pick with extremely competent people around her.

That isn't to discount the elephant in the room of the national debt, and the doom spiral that loomed, but there would have been a less catastrophic approach.

You lower the national debt by cutting government spending, having a good gdp growth and increasing tax revenues. This administration is attempting to fix one while tanking the other two. That's not going to lower our debt.

Fuck that. Hostility is deserved when you state that you were reluctant to vote for sanity over this shit.

Yeah, they were falsely painted as too liberal for positions they had not advocated during the campaign, or even during Biden's administration.  Except the immigration thing.  That one hurt them.

It sure as fuck shouldn't have. Biden and congress had a bipartisan immigration overhaul on deck that would have actually fixed a bunch of shit, and dotard scuttled it. It's enraging that the Dems not only failed to wield this weapon against dotard but also let the Rs take it and bloody them. Just another great example of the failure of Dem messaging.

The guy was negging and attacking my posts before I responded. I usually try to stay out of politics because it brings the worst out of people, but these are desperate times. If we don't act, the country is going to be run by a lunatic cult for a long time that is undoing everything that made this country the envy of the world.

Loomed? Do you think DOGE or this idiotic trade war has solved the debt crisis it or something?

It’s too late. It’s currently being run by a lunatic cult that is undoing everything that made this country the envy of the world and somehow you were reluctant to vote against it.

The billionaires bought off politicians, especially Republicans, to offload their financial responsibility to the country to deficit spending.

Combine that with a ridiculously wasteful and bloated DOD, that spends more than the #2 through #10 countries in the world COMBINED, and you have what we have. If at any time those two things got fixed would have rebounded a ton. But corruption and stupidity will always do you in eventually.

No, I think that problem existed for both regardless who won. I said that the approach would have been different, apparently all of you are freaking out so much you can't read anymore or something.

Dude royiv chill the fuck out he voted for kamala and thinks what's going on sucks. Get a grip.

While I don't disagree with who to blame, I think you need to be strategic. What is right may not win you the election. Counting on people in rural America to not be racist or sexist is not a winning strategy. Trump won because he told those voters what they wanted to hear. You have to know your audience and can't always expect them to behave rationally.

Yes, reluctantly because 1) my vote doesn't matter because I live in California, and 2) I knew she didn't do enough to win. I normally don't vote in the presidential elections because California doesn't  matter in our stupid electoral system, but this time I did.

While I absolutely disagree with this logic, I see why you might look at it that way, and it's largely a non-issue, because California (and about 40 other states).

That said, you also had another post where you also raised the reluctance to support Kamala because you felt she didn't do enough to win, and because you didn't think rural America would vote for her.  Those types of things seem better suited any discussion prior to her actually getting the democratic nomination.  Once that happened, I don't see how reluctance to vote for her because of those issues matter any more.  Your choices at that point were vote Harris, vote Trump, don't vote, and I guess vote green party or something.

I said "reluctantly' because I didn't find her an exciting candidate. I still voted for her because I thought if she just steered the ship, we are good, much better than the alternative. I usually vote for the candidate, not the party.

Also, California votes have no impact on the general elections, which I find to be ridiculous because the state contributes the most to the gdp. I think we should change the electoral college to popular vote, but that's a discussion for another day.

If Trump runs again, can we get Obama to run again?

Obama at age 47 had to fix the Republicans cratering the markets with the wars and mortgage crisis, and you think Obama at 67 is going to want to inherit this shit?

That fucker is laughing his ass off sitting on whatever rich man's throne he's on right now. I bet he won't want any part of cleaning up America's stupidity mess.

In 2 years of complete democrat control from 2009 to 2011 they steered the banking crisis and economy back on track and gave millions of Americans access to health care with the ACA.

How many times since 2000 have Republicans had full control? What has happened when they do? What have they given us?

It's hard not to when the republicans have moved fully into authoritarian fascism, and have brainwashed 40 percent of Americans that it's in their best interest. I wish they had given Bernie a chance in 2016 to really fight with liberal ideals, but they were never going to do that.

I'm not trying to be an asshole but this post is dumb. You can attach any white face you want to the Dems. As long as they also come with Black, Trans, and blue haired, nose ring wearing people a large portion of this country isn't buying it. The problem is old people vote, and old people always feel like they don't recognize the country anymore. This has been the case for generation after generation. So conservative politicians know all they have to do is fear monger the olds and they will vote away their lives to keep their grandson Chris from becoming Chrissy, and their granddaughter Sara from dating Tyrone.

This is why for a long time the Dems have been moving further and further right. The only thing that has ever saved the Dems is Republican recessions. Every time we get one of those the country is JUST fed up enough to vote for the Dems. Then after a Democrat fixes the economy it's back to old people worrying that Juan is coming for them. The only long term change for this cycle of abuse is for a Republican to hurt the system so bad that we don't immediately forget about it. Think 1930's Germany. That's the only way to hit the reset button.

I would have thought 1.2 million excess deaths (as estimated by the CDC and bolstered by the National Academy of Sciences) would have done it, but I guess that was too much to ask.

Good luck with that.

A guy I work with put it fairly succinctly. Americans do not like to be told what to do. We never have and never will and that’s a big weakness when you cannot agree on common sense solutions for the entire population.

We will never be like the countries in Europe that take care of the population like the countries in Scandinavia. We have too much “F you pay me” types to ever come together as a whole and transform our society into something that works for everyone. I still think we can eventually get along again, but it is going to have to take millions of people realizing how much they screwed up by joining a death cult led by a clown.

Well voting for her because Trump would be terrible is the right answer, however you come to it.

Would that fewer than 52% of US voters came to the same conclusion.

We don't like to be told what to do, so we vote for an authoritarian dictator.

Aside from the parallels to Nazi Germany, the morons also fail history as regards to dictators and authoritarians more broadly, like George III, or Napoleon, or Tsar Nicholas.

One of the huge ironies of Cubans and others that fled communist dictators and now fear "socialism." is that the problem with communism is actually its quick slide into authoritarianism, and the fact that communism was usually bookended or preceded with dictatorships.

Even Curtis fucking Yarvin acknowledges that a "benign dictator," for whom he so yearns, may not stay benign long.

No, not except immigration. One of the first things Harris did as VP was go on national television and tell immigrants not to come, Biden ramped up deportations, and the Dems negotiated an extremely conservative immigration bill that had the most racist republicans in Congress salivating before Trump ordered them to kill it.

I think messaging was poor on immigration.  And, also, I think immigration would have increased under anyone not named Trump, so it really wasn't "Biden policy" that increased immigration, but reversal of Trump's unamerican policies.  But I guess that's a policy too.

Nonetheless, it would have been hard to message the foregoing and an immigration bill that didn't pass and people are incapable of understanding in the first place.

Uh yeah, that's the problem. He realizes the country is in crisis because the Republican Party is composed of maniacs and morons and is in complete control of the Federal Government but still can't let go of the completely absurd premise that it's also the Democrats' fault.

He is exactly why we're fucked and will continue to be fucked.

He literally believes that a trade deficit means the US is losing money. Wharton should retract his degree because surely no one with that degree would say something so stupid… and yet

This is Trump:

And Congress and businesses are too cowardly to do any damn thing about it.
