Zero critical thinking and zero nuance to anything. Just a bunch of cavemen reposting garbage and misinformation that gets routed to the next caveman's algorithm so they can also post it.

And one was a worldwide phenomenon to be managed and the other was a crisis entirely of his own making and design.

But the point still stands. Congrats on demonstrating your guy is also a failure.

Also, Biden took office during Covid and was President for the years after. He took the hit for all of it, including the inflation that everyone knew would happen. Trump ran on the economy and lowering prices on day one, and then promptly destroyed the economy and did multiple things that made everything more expensive. Like, just his doing. One person. The one person who promised to fix everything on day one, because of course he did because he's a fucking conman.

Yeah, he failed to deliver on making everything cheaper, but at least he ended the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office, right?

Not only did he fail to make everything cheaper, he basically immediately started calling it a hoax. The thing he ran on. A hoax. He also said that he likes the high inflation, and yet somehow his approval numbers didn't drop to 0% the next day.

because 100% of the people that needed to hear it either didn't or don't care. that's the whole problem. we might not be able to do much about the latter, but we start fixing the former

Look, Trump is the worst, but Trump didn't dump close to $4 trillion dollars into an inflationary economy with the American Jobs Plan and Build Back Better. That's entirely on Biden.

It's okay to acknowledge that Biden was, at best, a meh president without taking away from the historic awful ness of Trump.

I think history will see his overall handling of the country’s business during the Covid-19 crisis in a much more positive way than your opinion. Time will tell. He was too old to be an effective communicator in a modern political Arena, and that is absolutely true. But I think the nuts and bolts of his administrations policy decisions we’re basically sound. It’s not like any administration has a template for dealing with something like COVID-19 when the administration proceeding you turned basic disease prevention into a divisive political litmus test.

His biggest sin was running again when it appears in retrospect that our only 2024 hope was a white male democratic presidential candidate not named Joe Biden. The handoff to Harris without a traditional nomination process and vetting of the best candidate was certainly problematic.

I don't want to derail calling out Trump's bullshit with a Biden retrospective, but I think that they largely handled Covid well (although the probably should have read the room a bit more closley on mask mandates and shutdowns post vaccine), and we desperately needed an infrastructure investment bill.

Having said that, beyond the fact that the first stimulus bill was mostly driven by their desire to hang their nuts in the first 100 days despite what economists where telling them, in general, the Biden administration often got to the right policy decision, but tended to get there with the maximum amount of buffoonary and incompetence along the way.

Afghanistan withdrawal was the perfect encapsulation: It was the right thing to do, and it was always going to end badly, but once you decided to leave the overriding tactical driver had to be "It absolutely, under no circumstances, can look like Saigon in 1975. IDGAF what you need to do to make it as optically smooth as possible, but it can't be a violent clusterfuck." But they turned over planning to State and the NSC, they totally bungled it, then had to call the Pentagon in to bail them out after the optics went in the toilet.

Large and small, that's how almost everything went during his presidency.

Inflation only went down after those bills passed. What we experienced had a lot more to do with supply chains being unable to meet demand and a whole lot of the workforce deciding to retire than government spending.

I think that is an excellent summation. And as we know, in politics, it is all optics over substance.

The loose definition of inflation is too much money chasing too few goods. So stimulative fiscal policy in the face of supply side shortages is....not going to help. Granted, the Fed should have started hiking by summer of 2021, but that would have put the Fed and the Presidency at cross policy.

i’m going to correct my comment. The former and current Trump administrations having negated the use of “maximum buffoonery” when applied to Biden - or any other president. I’m not saying that buffoonery was not present in the Biden administration, but in no way did it reach maximum level when compared with TFG. But the price of eggs…

The best thing that came out of the Biden admin for me is I now have chickens. I have eggs coming out of my ears and they are true free range. I cant eat any other eggs now. Thanks Biden.

That's right. Biden's incompetence was of the tradtional, non-trump variety: leaked reports, mixed messaging, infighting, crossed red lines, bad optics, groupthink, that tend to bedevil most president's, although Obama minimized it to a large degree.

That 2nd stimulus was a big mistake that exacerbated inflation. His attempt to run for a 2nd term was a huge mistake; there’s a reasonable take that everything bad Trump has done this term is only happening because Biden fucked up the transition.

Aside from those 2 things, he was a good president. Solid foreign policy, solid domestic economic policy. Especially in the context of the political environment.

New analysis reveals that Trump's tariffs raised prices on consumers and increased price inflation significantly.

Without the tariffs, it's estimated prices would've fallen.
