Is your position that no matter what the dems did they could not win the election because of stupid voters? This is where I disagree. There is and will always be uneducated, stupid and biased voters. A smart leader is able to overcome it. Muslim voters felt like they were not being heard, and they wanted to punish the incumbent. That's usually the natural outcome when a demography feels like they are not being heard.

The problem going forward is going to be how dems can relate to people who feel like they are not being heard. Do you accept it as inevitable and blame the "stupid' or do you craft a strategy to overcome it? We lost a few important supporters like Musk and Ackman with a huge following during the last election. These people are not stupid. They just formed an alliance that they thought would benefit them more. Ackman was pleading Biden to drop out for months and then he switched sides. To ignore the mistakes as someone else's problem is the recipe for failure again.

Old people vote UTEE. Young people dont. Fear mongering works with the olds. The Dems dont really have anything they can fear monger on. So no, messaging wasnt going to work. Dems have only won when we got tired of the Rs fucking shit up.

I don’t know what this means or if it is real. But it would not surprise me in the least.

It goes back several years. In the US, we spray/dip/apply (I can't remember which) dead chickens that have been plucked with bleach before selling them. In Europe, they don't/can't for whatever regulatory purpose (sounds unhealthily to me). So, we aren't allowed to export our dead poultry there for consumption.

Dems have been warning the Olds for 25 years that Republicans were coming after their SS and Medicare, but by and large, the Olds continued to vote for them. I guess that prospect wasn't as scary as non-white people and gays

Lol. That's not my quote. Weird

I follow a lot of accounts similar to Ed Yardeni. They all have almost the same take. Completely self inflected, based on bad math, and a terrible idea.

In a little more than 2 weeks we're getting starting a cruise that has 3 stops in China. Might be a more interesting trip than we planned. I'm not worried about our safety, but wouldn't be surprised if the stops get canceled.

I just left two weeks in China yesterday, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

conservatism is outstanding at moral panics. satanists, the gays, commies, satanists again, more commies but this time from china, latin american gangs, downtown areas in any city over 25,000 people, more gays but not the neighbors who keep their yard too perfect, downtown areas in any city bigger than 25,000, etc. all to be feared.

people who are actually out to poison you like tobacco and oil companies? *shrug*

99% of MAGA don't give a flying fuck what's happening with the stock market.  on social media, they repeatedly point out that they live paycheck to paycheck.  the stock market going in the tank doesn't mean a thing to them because they're not in the game. it's only hurting the "elites," which pleases them.

I tried to explain this to an undergrad working in our lab today. He said most people don't invest in the stock market, like his parents for example, so he doesn't really care about the market crash. His dad is a contractor of some sort.

I explained that the people who do invest in the stock market for retirement savings are seeing their retirement savings dwindle away, so they aren't going to hiring your dad to renovate their house anytime soon.

Throw in more expensive lumber, tile, nails, tools, new truck, whatever, and his dad is going to get fucked even worse than the "elite."

He scoffed, but I think maybe I detected a glimmer of understanding. I dunno.

Stupid yutes.

As an aside, I'm really glad my retirement is a defined benefit plan. My wife's however, yikes.

The plan is super-easy:

1) Give them someone to hate/blame.

2) Feed the hate.  Shovel coal onto the hate constantly, as fast as you can.  Never pause, never let up.

The problem is, all the easy-to-hate groups are already taken by the right: minorities, gays, trans, anyone weak really.  So, now we've got to find some groups the GQP doesn't already own the "we hate 'em" license for.

That pretty much leaves billionaires, which is not a great choice because they have the means to fight back.  The right wins this, because they picked the target of the people who really can't fight back.  They won.  That's why it's over.  We are a country governed by decisions made based on who you hate and blame for everything wrong, even things that haven't gone wrong/don't exist (kitty litter boxes in classrooms).  We can't overcome that.

You also need to control most of the channels spewing your propaganda, so you can control the messaging the general public hears.

So lemme see if I now have THIS right… all the countries come to trump with tears in their eyes, begging SIR SIR PLEASE HELP. And “tariffs” are all wiped clean, everybody sings buy the world a coke together.

Doesn’t that just kill off the whole onshoring of jobs claim, what’s the incentive for corps to onshore then? And doesn’t that kill off the revenue boost talked up for the US govt via tariffs?

the questions are in good faith.

You don’t have it right. Vietnam purportedly offered to go zero out tariffs and Navarro claimed the administration rejected the offer because it didn’t address “non-tariff” ways in which it was “cheating”. By which he means that we have a trade deficit

Add Ken Griffin and Ken Langone to the list of billionaires having buyer's remorse. Does Trump care? Probably not, but the Republicans up for midterm elections might.

The Midterms, presuming we have them in a fair form, are still a very long time away. Lots can happen before then. If he bombs Iran into the ground and successfully ethnically cleanses Gaza, the Republicans might sail to victory collapsed economy or no.

Add "makes being transgender a crime" and he'd pull off the Regan 84 map.

I guess I will find out first hand how they feel about us when I take my family to Europe this summer. Flights are getting cheaper. Yay!

Getting worse before it’s better is obviously a real thing:

The Trump administration will remain steadfast in its reciprocal tariffs on major U.S. trading partners even in the face of a global stock market sell-off, Commerce Secretary Howard Bootlick told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

A follow up here. We actually have a trade surplus with Australia and yet are going to tariff all imports from Australia at 10%. If it’s not about tariff rates or even trade deficits- then the Answer is what Trump says: he thinks tariff revenues can replace the need to have an income tax and also that the tariffs are never going away

If the manufacturing jobs come back to the us and everyone buys American made products, what will be the source of the tariff revenue?
