If hating cats is wrong, I don't want to be right.

And if you really like cats and hate dogs, adopt a raccoon, at least they're fun.

I love both. Anybody that gets off on terrorizing small animals is a piece of shit in my book.

The whole case has brought up something that has been bothering me lately.  What do people with dogs do about them when they commit suicide? Do they take their dog with them, just leave it to fend for itself, or do people with dogs just not commit suicide?  You almost never read about the dogs in news stories about suicides.  One of the things that has really been bothering me lately is what would happen to my dog Sebastian if I were to die, so it’s hard for me to image just leaving him alone, but I sure can’t imagine killing him.  I did some intertron research and there’s not much out there about this subject.  I did find one science journal article that suggested that it was more common than reported for suicide victims (is victim the correct term?) to take their pets with them, but that news reports just seldom mentioned it.  These things keep me up at night.

My mother's neighbor was a terminally ill veterinarian who took his dogs with him when he decided to go.

On the other hand, I know a girl who went through major depression who told me the only reason that she didn't kill herself is because she was worried about her dog.

I'd say I'm closer to the latter, as I can't imagine taking a pet with me unless they were also sick.

We adopted a couple of senior cats. It's been a great experience for both of us. One of them was really traumatized; she spent the first two weeks in the closet, she it really took a couple of years for her to come out of her shell. Now we've got this new kitten in the house, and after a little adjustment period, she and the little guy have become friends. And she went from a scrawny, anxious to the point of grooming herself bald thing to a big fat happy furball.

(By far the dumbest cat I've ever seen, tho. Oh well.)

The other cat was basically my son's therapy cat through high school. So she's justified her existence quite a bit.

So no, I wouldn't take my pets with me; there's always someone else's life they could become a part of, just like these two old ladies have done for us.

here's what Dr. Baden thinks:  Gene went Fred Sanford and hit the deck.  Wife panics, runs to get medicine, slips and hits her head and has a brain bleed and never wakes up.

I think the first responders would have noticed that last part.

She didn't go down a bottle of pills, leave many all over the cabinet and then stand in the same spot for 2 hours waiting for the pills to kill her without letting the dog out of the kennel. Anyone thinking she committed suicide is stupid.

how the fuck would first responders know that a mummified corpse died of internal brain bleeding?

The Conversation was a very slow burn but I’m glad I watched it. Almost felt like Kubrick instead of Coppola. Some big supporting cast members.

Mississippi Burning is still great. I certainly didn’t appreciate it when I was assigned to go watch it in high school. We called it Mississippi Boring.

Watching Crimson Tide now, and it has the Bruckheimer cheese but it’s fun to watch Denzel and Hackman spar.

I'm so glad Wes Anderson cast him in Tannenbaums.

I really think it's one of his finest roles, because it was such a unique and funny departure from his typical dramatic performances.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said officials believe that Betsy Arakawa’s last known communication was on February 11.

Arakawa’s husband, Gene Hackman, was also found dead in another room in the house. Hackman’s pacemaker showed his “last event” was recorded on February 17, Mendoza said previously.

“According to the pathologist, I think that is a very good assumption, that that was his last day of life,” he said.

Mendoza said Arakawa used a fob to gain access to the gated community where they lived at about 5:15 p.m. on February 11.

“Numerous emails were unopened on her computer on February 11. There was no additional outgoing communication from her or known activity after February 11, 2025,” Mendoza said.

that timeline definitely messes with a lot of theories. Hackman could possibly have been alive for 6 days after his wife possibly died? (yes, lots of possibly's)

I doubt she was dead for 6 days with him alive. Best guess she started feeling real shitty around the 11th, collapsed and died in the bathroom on the 17th, Hackman found her and the shock/grief killed him due to his age and infirmity. He was in the other room, one would hope to get to a phone to call authorities.

I had never seen this, so I watched it last weekend. It was great and so was GH. Just hilarious.

Her body was in the process of mummification while Hackman's wasn't.  Supposedly it takes 3 weeks to start mummification?

and yep she was dead 6 days, but he didn't realize b/c Alzheimer's.  Also obv didn't realize dog was kenneled. Man God was sure on fire when he decided to include Alzheimer's in the ole grand design.

Alzheimers man.. he probably wondered around the house for days not realizing she was dead.  He didn't find her...she was his caregiver.

I saw where Hackman had no food in his stomach when he died. Was he so bad off to where he couldn't use a phone?

My guess (which is worth zip) is he probably was so far gone he couldn’t be around anyone he didn’t know and maybe that is why she didn’t hire help or she didn’t want his story out so paparazzi weren’t being vultures. Only reason I could think she didn’t get medical help for herself.

“Advanced Alzheimer’s” sounds pretty bad off. If you’re living in the same house as your wife who’s been dead for almost a week and can’t grasp that, I’m thinking that dialing a phone to a working number and communicating a coherent message to the person on the other end of the line is probably an awful lot to ask.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but yeah, advanced Alzeheimers probably means that.  He could probably "use" one, but he never "knew" he needed to. And if you have lived with it, experienced it, it's pretty easy to understand that scenario.

It's certainly a sad story, but more for her than him. And the dog. He likely wouldn't have lasted another month. Sometimes bizarre things happen and this is just one instance. What are the odds she catches a rare disease and dies right before he would have died?

I'm not buying the he found her dead and then died from grief story at all. He probably never knew she was dead. He died days after her and not next to her. And what's the deal with the daughter who says she was close to her dad. She has a different definition of close than I do.
