Dre is low-key kind of an all-time Longhorn. Think of everything this dude has been through his 5 seasons. The highs and the lows. Went from being a touted prospect to a fucking nightmare to a reliable dude to sticking around after a coaching change.

A lot of respect for that kid.

This is crazy, do you bring back Dre now for the ninth?

Not exactly wanting to see Mercer.

Not sure about anybody else unless maybe Grubbs can give you an inning.

I guess Dre comes back out.

Not against scoring some more runs first.

If any of you guys in the stadium are near the group who won't stop insanely drunkenly chanting, please go up there and punch them in the mouth.

They probably are those guys, that's probably us.

I would have left Dre out there but let’s see how this goes

Man, think about how crazy that statement would have been for you just a few years ago. I remember some of those threads where we just lamented his performance. Had a similar sentiment to the looming dread of Howard coming in today.

Got down and Grubby. 😃

Cody Howard has pitched 34.1 innings at Texas, he has given up 44 hits, 30 walks, 34 ER, and 5 HBP.

He has allowed a .326 AVG, 8.91 ERA, and a 2.17 WHIP...

And it got a whole lot worse tonight

And he’s a RS junior. Play the young guys instead.

Schloss just told Moreland he thought Howard did a good job.

That he threw strikes. 🤯

Goes back to what I said earlier. The first two batters that reached against him hit the ball a combined 90 feet. Guerrero hits a solo or two run homer and no one remembers his outing and we win 10-4 or some such.

When you are up 9-1, usually just throwing strikes is enough but for whatever reason bad stuff just seems to happen to Howard and it snowballs fast.

What's he supposed to say, 'Well he's the worst I've ever seen and we're going to throw him in the river on the way home'

He didn't have to say anything about him, he wasn't asked.

He just volunteered the information.

The real answer if he had to comment on Howard is something like he had a bad outing or didn't have his best stuff.

This is what coaches say.

I would actually like to see Grubbs get a shot at anchoring the back end of this bullpen

Not sure that's ideal.  He pitches to contact.  He's best suited to be an innings eater when the starter melts down.  Right now I don't see a viable closer unless they try to go with Duplantier.  Mercer seems to have no control and throws a very straight ball.  The freshmen DV and Burns have great stuff but are probably just too green.  Riojas doesn't seem to have an out pitch.   Also, who's the setup guy?  Is it going to be grab bag every night?  I guess the man gets paid to figure this stuff out but it's pretty murky at the moment.

My guess is we will need outs from new faces tomorrow if we want to beat Tech. Guys like Moffett or Hamilton, who we still haven’t seen yet despite the fact Schloss has been hyping him up quite a bit.

Probably don’t want to use Riojas, Burns or Dre til Sunday at the earliest.

Thanks, I genuinely thought our coach was going to take one of his players and throw them in a river.  Now I know.

I expected higher scoring games this weekend with the way the ball carries at that park (I don’t think the 3 oppo homers by both sides all go out at a neutral night at the Disch), but it’s the free passes and errors that kill you.

I could somewhat live with a 11-10 loss if they just out-slugged us, but we gave up 5 free passes the last 3 innings of the game.
