Like the national forests? Go while they're still there.

This motherfucker is literally trying to burn it down with zero reasoning other than he can and people in pain are easier to control. If legacy were a question this is the dumbest thing imaginable. One of the only things we get right in this country he wants to fuck up. Sell it for profit and also make it more flammable. Maybe the logging companies will rake behind themselves when they're done?

No surprise.  Carlsbad Caverns is closing down the caverns this month.  Shitload of other parks have reduced levels of visitors and probably headed towards zero for the summer.

The irony is that if this were a national security issue, we'd continue importing like crazy, and preserve our forests so that when the imports dry up/become too expensive, we are sitting on a huge chunk of untouched timber.  Instead, we are going to help some executives hit their quarterly numbers and if our forests get fucked up, down the road Canada will bend us over.

Since when did what is allowed by law matter to this administration?

That's what's so frustrating. We were talking about this shit at my weekly card game, and there were a few saying Trump wouldn't get away with all this bullshit because of "Laws". When I asked them who the fuck was stepping up to stop them, they couldn't really come up with any examples, but you know...."Laws." You can tell it's a profitable poker game.

I don't know... I mean, wouldn't clear cut land look nice as a strip mall with a big parking lot?  Why not go see a handful of trees on the way to visit Mattress Firm or Nails Deluxx?  They're bringing convenience and low low prices to the country!

I know you want it confined to CR, but they are literally going to wreck our national forests.  It's fucking news. Everybody, regardless of political persuasion, should be fucking pissed about this and about them shutting down or restricting the national parks.

Bro, do you even magat? Whatever this administration does, it's the bestest thing to do. Disagreeing with the insane bullshit is political to the dipshits.

Hurt fee fees. They voted for it (or claim they didn’t vote for it or vote at all) and then want to ignore it and not see the consequences of their actions or inactions

Oh but I would rather clutch my pearls that you have brought current events to my attention rather than facing the fact that we're about to F up our national forests.  You see?  That's much more important.

I didn’t vote for it. I just don’t care to hear about it everywhere I go here. I don’t share the same fears y’all do in this particular instance, and if you have those fears, I don’t know why it’s not being discussed in CR. I say this as one who a) disagrees with much of what is going on, and b) and have committed the same transgression in other threads, and I realize it’s a slippery slope, as the guy is dominating headlines.

Why did some of you click on this thread if the subject doesn't appeal to you?

The subject doesn't appeal to anyone. That's why some of those people feel the need to come and complain about those reporting it.

The subject matter is of interest to me. I wish we could discuss specifically exactly if/how this will impact national forests, but instead it’s immediately shrouded in evil nefarious judgement, largely because of the OP, and his bias and framing. And I get the sentiment, I really do.

Planning a trip late summer. I can't find anything on the Caverns website except the guided tours eliminating some morning tour slots. What is your source?

Care to be more specific? I'm citing and using language from the article. How else should I frame it?

Honest question: what exactly do we need so much timber for? More wood to build houses for our totally exploding population? I don’t get the long game.

Those Aggy McMansions out in Katy/Cypress along the Grand Parkway need plenty of cheap timber (and labor) they aint gonna build themselves...

Oh.  You think state sovereignty is still going to be a thing a year from now.  You are adorable.

Those parks will be taken, by military force if necessary.

being super serious - total NP/SP hack - go see the Humboldt Redwoods and Rockefeller Forest right before thanksgiving or during the Christmas holiday. NO ONE is there. You could literally shit right next to the bear and it wouldn't happen because no one is there to see it. One of the greatest moments of my life standing there int he forest by ourselves with only the sounds of the forest and our tinnitus to hear.

I don’t know man.

No, I’m very much opposed to that, but understand the populist rhetoric there. There is nothing we can do to increase production much more at all. And, the tariffs and calls for OPEC are tanking prices. He’s no friend to the industry, as some people are surprised to find out.

The guided tours have already closed.  They stopped the self-guided tours then opened up a few slots after people flipped out, but according to others, they are trying to be optimistic and don't have the manpower to keep things open for even the self-guided tours to go down. A lot of chatter that there is a struggle over closing off the caverns.

I guess it wasn’t as funny as it sounded when I typed it out?

not sure why you thought calling me a "deviant" was funny when you typed it out, unless you're 11 years old or something.
