there's a woman in the state house in VA that set the precedent on how trans people represent in legislative bodies - you don't advocate much at all for trans rights, that comes across as a selfish act, instead you keep your mouth shut and deflect back to the economic issues of your constituents. The mere fact that they voted you in is the only act of defiance required.

I’ll be honest, I wish there was a path for me. I’ve considered moving to a state where I could but those states don’t need people like me to run. Plus my wife would divorce me and the discord and threats are too much now. I still think about it often though.

get out of texas and lay low

Colbert must have been in the cause a disruption camp. Apparently, he said of Al Green that the reason it took so many guys to remove him from the chamber was that “apparently he smuggled in a spine.”

Without power, it's all theater.

The theater probably helps get people elected, though, so it's not a complete waste of time.

The theater is vital. That is how you get power. Give people are reason to support you.

And once you have power, it is how you hold it.

So what you're saying is, Donald Trump is a genius.

In this one respect he is very gifted.

Pity about all the others.

In a very, very, very, very narrow field, absolutely. He understands flooding the zone, there's no such thing as bad publicity, self-promotion, and always having a fall guy.

He's the perfect candidate for our reality TV, professional wrestling watching country.

So netted out, are the dems better off at not trying to disrupt Trump speeches?  Hearing some interesting viewpoitns today.  I didn't watch last night, but what I'm hearing is that the Dems just aren't good enough at trolling the master troller, and since there is a double standard in terms of awfulness, the dems can't win these head to heads.

On the flip side, I just may be out of touch with what the younger dems want.

Dems are essentially doing nothing right now, outside of a few of the more vocal ones. I don't think it's a good strategy to do nothing, and then act like dicks during his speeches. That just makes you look like dicks doing it for attention.

I'm torn. Because ancient wisdom says don't interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake, but perhaps the assumption that this is all a mistake is the flaw here. The two sides aren't even fighting the same war. Dems need to, unfortunately, give a lot fewer fucks about decorum and appearance and do what is actually necessary to stop our freefall into fascism. So while I agree you shouldn't stop someone from showing their ass who deserves it, I'm not sure that strategy is going to work here. It assumes everyone is playing by the same rules and clearly there are no rules.

The problem is that the Dems are campaigning as the party of the rule of law and traditional norms of civility.  The Republicans aren't.  Therefore when Dems dive into that particular cesspool, they look weaker -- they can't keep their shit together and they simply aren't as good at being assholes.

The Dems have to act twice as civil to look half as civil in the eyes of people who have double standards.  I think Dems gain by playing nice in places and at ceremonies that some peope hold sacred.  Go to town elsewhere.  Be bold at your own rally, or when protesting.

But don't shit in places that in normal times you would hold sacred.  Shit on places they hold sacred but you don't.

Couldn't find the Mike Johnson thread so I'll drop this here. Mike's chief of staff arrested for DUI following Huff & Puff's address last night.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/rcna194986

Russian officials put sirens on top of their vehicles so they can flaunt traffic laws. This will probably come to Washington after the next Republican visit to Moscow.

I didn’t game thread or watch the address in real time but it’s kinda wild reading the takes here and standing them up against the various response polls. CR always with the finger on the political pulse.
