That was a very promising first episode, and I agree that the fork in the road was great.  I don't generally like subjectively judged challenges, but they have always been part of TAR, and I didn't see anything egregious.  I initially thought the "can't get a taxi" thing was blatant racism.  I was glad it turned out to be a simple language barrier, and that the team was doing something wrong.

And it didn’t seem she was scared going up. Only going down. Weird.

They explained it pretty clearly.  She suffered a really bad fall going down stairs and cracked her face open.  PTSD is real.

Maroon team dude is way too intense and if going to have an absurd blow up at some point.

They finished 2nd on their half and he was super pissed at the finish line. I feel sorry for his wife if she has a slip up at some point.

I know it's only two episodes in, but this is shaping up to be one of the best seasons of all time.  I like that even though they have designated travel agents, they still have some flight options to get some separation.

Agreed, good episode. The drumming challenge was really cool, and challenging. Loved bringing back the Intersection.

We liked the Sumo guy.  He was having fun with the contestants.  TAR couldn't have picked a better guy for the contestants to work with.  Right now, I'm thinking lumberjacks for the win.

I am pulling for the lumberjacks, but I think the top 3 teams are Jonathan and Ana, Brett and Mark, and Carson and Jack, in no particular order.

Episode 3 did not measure up the the high standards set by the first two, though it wasn't the worst episode ever.

The express pass was way too easy to get, and that ninja challenge was almost impossible.  How long do you think the "ninjas" who can actually throw those spikes had to train before they could reliable hit three in a row?  I bet it was considerably longer than any of the teams were at the challenge.  They could have given them 10 throws to hit three and no one would have gotten it.

I didn’t mind it at all - but Jonathan is an asshole and needs to go away

Not yet. I'm looking forward to watching the meltdown when they struggle with a challenge.

Yeah, the spikes were tough enough on their own that it made the whole "perfect run" requirement ridiculous.

The producers have to know that was a fuck-up given that nobody completed that detour.

The spikes were basically just nails it looked like.  Imagine picking up a nail and trying to throw it and have it stick into a board.  I hate it when the two challenges are so unbalanced like that.  On top of not being real fair, it also makes for worse tv when everyone is doing the same task.

The weakest teams continue to be eliminated, which I suppose is a good thing.  I think mom and daughter are probably going to be in trouble if there are more physical challenges ahead, but they have been hanging in there, and navigation is the great equalizer.

That was a terrible use of the express pass, and I was glad to see it.  I'm not sure how I feel about the driver's seat.  The team who ends up in it is guaranteed to make enemies, which is obviously the point.  It could be lessened by taking the hardest challenge, but no team is going to do that.

We had another detour where most teams did the same challenge.  At least the other one was doable, and appeared to take about the same amount of time.  I wonder how it would have gone if the two teams doing it didn't work together?

I think most of us have been rooting against Jonathan and Ana since the beginning.  I'm also having trouble with Scott and Lori, other than when they are in direct competition with Jonathan and Ana.  Scott doesn't bother me so much, but Lori is really starting to get on my nerves.  She reminds me too much of Sue, from Survivor 1.  She also benefited from the complete lack of any quality control on the rice challenge.  I don't think she even touched her sieve.  The trash that ended up in her bag didn't add much weight, but she sure saved a lot of time by not making any effort to remove it.  I would not be surprised if she threw a few rocks in there while she was at it.
