Hard to believe this happened 60 years ago today. Civil Rights icon John Lewis was beaten and suffered a fractured skull while trying to cross a bridge named after one of the traitors that fought against America in the Civil War. He later became a congressman in Georgia for 34 years until his death in the summer of 2020. That day changed so much about America. That African-Americans were willing to be beaten to show how horrific life was in the Jim Crow south speaks to the incredible courage they showed that day in Alabama. This picture says more than any words I can say about where the country was at and also what kind of man John Lewis was.
