I'll go to my grave believing he wins that national championship game vs bama if he doesn't get hurt.

100% true.  and the year before if butterfingers mcgillicuddy doesn't drop that pick.  and in 2001 if major is starting.  mack brown basically won four national titles in 10 years.  saban-esque.

You made me google Blake Gideon so thanks for that.  The 08 team could have won it all had they beat Tech.  The 01 team though?   We make the championship game if Major plays all year, but that Miami team would've killed them.

Can't say Mack basically won 4.  He won one.  Not quite saban-esque.

it's true.  it could also be argued that he'd have won more if he weren't unceremoniously gotten rid of.  he was going to fix things on the 40.

Saban was just about to come over as Mack’s DC.  But then they let Mack go

We wouldn't have won it in 2001, but we would have made it with Major starting. We should have won it in 2008 and 2009. All of this is Mack's fault.

I hate this thought process. We would've lost 3 other games if Major started. Just because he came in and was a change of pace vs Colorado doesn't make him not who he was as a QB. Limited.

Simms had like 4 turnovers and got the best OL and RB killed in an int return. He should have been benched long before that point. Texas has a good chance of beating Colorado if simms is sat earlier. Or if they don’t attempt a punt block and run into the kicker.

Beat COlorado and most likely make it to the championship game. Miami was gonna win that one though.

No argument about that particular game. My point was over the course of the season.

Simms threw 0 tds and 7 ints that season in the two biggest games that season.

If you have a time machine you run with Ced in the backfield from day 1 and let Major do his thing. Oh, and get yourself a different offensive coordinator.

That was a great 12 min mini-movie. Thanks for sharing it. The new takeaway for me was how cool an ole boy Jake Delhomme was and is.

You guys remember Major a lot better than he was. Major wasn't making it through a season without a few stumbles of his own. Dude was limited as a QB. If what he did well wasn't working he had nothing else to offer.

The thing that people always fail to mention about that 2001 season is Major tore his acl against Tech the season before and wasn't ready for fall workouts until a couple weeks before the season. Put yourself in Mack's shoes. Are you starting your over achieving noodle-armed senior QB who just missed all of spring and summer workouts, or are you starting your 5 star pedigreed QB who just finished the year off with wins KU and A&M and then a stellar bowl performance? That's what Mack was tasked with going into that season. Now obviously once the season got going and Simms showed performance issues in high leveraged moments Mack shouldve pulled the trigger quicker, but I can't fault him for beginning that year with Simms at the helm.
