Just got back in from a few days with the kids in Chicago. We decided to try and eat places we have not eaten in the past for several of the meals. Sienna Tavern was an excellent meal, we were all surprised at how good it was and the fact that all 4 agreed on it. It’s in the rotation going forward. Pistores was also a really good small neighborhood spot. Pizza and brunch were both excellent.

Looking to take a trip to Chicago in May or June. Looking for nice hotel (4 Seasons etc), nice dinner, pizza spots and just general can’t miss things. It’ll be me, the wife and my son (14). Thanks!

Definitely go to a Cubs game if they're in town. The Art Institute is fantastic. The architecture boat tour was surprisingly good.

I liked Pequod's for pizza as well as the Chicago Classic at Lou Malnati's.

It's been a few years since we've been, but Au Cheval was great for lunch. Also liked Avec, Roister, Purple Pig, Publican, and Formento's for dinner. And of course Al's for hot beef sandwich and Portillo's for chicago dogs and chocolate cake.

My kiddo is an extra in the Bear, shooting this week. They pay $180/hr. She's playing a girl in a bar, so she's definitely in her element.

I'm on the hook to take my nephew to a Cubs game, and my wife for both nights of DMB so Ill be there for end of June and the July 4th.

I am contemplating splitting an apartment in Andersonville with my daughter because I sorta want to keep my job and I may have to take on Chicago accounts in order to do so. We were contemplating Wrigleyville but as cool as it sounds its a crazy shitshow for much of the year.

Going to Chicago in late April.  Dinners booked at The Girl & The Goat, Avec River North, and Next.  Been to the first, but not the others.  Also seeing a show at Second City and taking an architectural river tour, which I've done before, but the wife hasn't.  Managed to get a room at The Four Seasons for $425.

Are the dogs at Devil Dawgs any good?  Looks like an area chain.

My fam and I love to eat there when we're downtown- Started over by DePaul, and has branched out (as you mention). State or Rush street locations are where we usually land.

I spent the week in the city for work. Some stressful workdays but man I really do love Chicago. I kind of think I want to spend some time living downtown when I retire.

We went to a late lunch on Wednesday and the closest place was Nancy's. We were supposed to meet another colleague for dinner around 6. My team decided they wanted to order a deep dish. They are my age ish. I guess they don't understand carbs. I got a salad with grilled chicken. I texted them at 5:45 to tell them our colleague couldn't make it and every person who ate that glorious stuffed pizza from Nancy's peaced out for the night.

I stayed in, despite the salad, but by last night I couldn't take it anymore and ordered a small stuffed from Nancy's. I had to force myself to eat the 2nd piece and a part of me died knowing that the other two pieces were going to waste but mannnn..... It was delicious.

Good week in the best big city in the country.

Heading there in 3 weeks, really hoping weather is tolerable, seems every hour is a coin flip. Will have a baby in tow so I’m thinking a rental car is probably the better play (Airbnb has parking) in case weather is shit and want to get around

Love me some Devil Dawgs.  Always hit them up when I'm up there visiting son.  Probably not the most heart healthy meal but eff it..Chicago.

Parking is not something you're going to be able to rely on. The surface lots and garages are plentiful but not cheap and probably won't put you that close to your destination. Uber is a good option but also not cheap. Bring a poncho for the baby.

Issue with Uber is gotta have a car seat, right?

First urban adventure with him, 8 mos old. Be his third time trip, but those were far from big city.

I don't know how I would handle that. My youngest is 12 so it's been a minute. The types of Uber rides you're taking in the city are not really the type where you're going to want to be strapping and unstrapping a kid. It's typically quick entrance and quick exit curbside type of stuff. My wife probably would have wanted no part of just holding the baby for a quick car ride. If you're not comfortable with that I don't blame you but I think you're back to walking and hoping for the best weather wise. If you're Uber ing from the City to O'Hare or something it definitely makes sense to get a car with a car seat but it seems impractical to me moving around the city itself. Maybe he would enjoy the L.

When we went with our young children a few years back, the uber drivers didn't care if the kids were in car seats, but they weren't infants. Regardless, I don't think the drivers will care. As far as safety was concerned, traffic in the loop goes so slow that even if you were to get into an accident, there's not a high likelihood of anyone sustaining a bad injury. And the loop is pretty much the only place where it's very difficult to find parking. Anything can happen, but you're cruising along at like 25 miles an hour tops for most of the time.

When we head into the loop, we always hop on the nearest train, take it to the spot closest to where we want to go, and then either walk or take an uber to our destination. I think that's the easiest and most affordable way to get around downtown.

The vibe I got with Uber Black was that the drivers were the Russians with enough snap to avoid getting sucked into Putin’s special military operation. iPhones in Cyrillic, answered questions with a glance and a grunt. I kept looking to see if they had earpieces with wires going down to their black suit jackets.

I’m staying in my wife’s childhood city of Naperville at her godmother’s condo for a week in June, which isn’t convenient to our daughter’s place in Ravenswood nor my favorite places in River North, but whatever, it’s free.

@irishtexan ain’t kidding about traffic in the loop - during rush hour you can walk faster than ride. My office is in River East, my kid’s (see below) is River North, and I definitely got my steps in.
