Awesome first half. Just keep hanging around and see what happens down the stretch.

Need to defend the rim a bit better and be better on the defensive glass.

We can beat these guys.

Does Terry ever bench players for bad shots?  Not that I've seen.  So of course he thinks he has the green light.

Only certain guys.  The standards are not the same across the board. Pope is not one of them, so yes he thinks he has the green light.

Should probably come up with a plan to stop Lanier, and another one to get Tre the ball.

Need to do a better job guarding Lanier but I don't mind what we're doing with Tre.

They're over helping on Tre. At the end of the half, Mark realized that if he just drove to Tre's side of the court they were not going to help off of him. Wide open layups and penetration.

Not able to watch yet but how does Tre only have 3 shots in the first half!?

Expand

One reason is Mark is still doing a good job of running some kind of offense.

He is distributing the ball and still getting his own shots too.

It's why Texas is still in the game.

Gainey can't stay in front of Mark.

It was pretty clear what we were doing offensively to end the half. They were isolating Mark and Tre on one side of the court because they know Mashak is not going to leave Tre.

It was working too. Now it might be a different story once Ziegler is back in the game.

It did look like he benched Tre for a few minutes early in the half for not hustling for that out of bounds ball

I actually like his rotations and think that he benches guys when appropriate - but he's definitely a little loose with enforcing shot-selection.

Down by 3 with Lanier outscoring Tre by 14?  I'll take it.  I don't think he's gonna put that margin up again in the next half.

Enjoy it.  We're a borderline Round of 32 team.  They're a borderline Final Four team.

I wish they would have played like this all season. But that's part of the problem. I like Terry and he's really easy to root for. Just isn't quite the standard Texas is looking for.

I hope he fucking kills it wherever he lands. Assuming Texas doesn't make a bad hire and never looks back.

We're just a much better team with Mark at PG.

Crazy it took this long to figure it out or we wouldn't even be close to a bubble team.

I don't think the two are necessarily related. A bad hire is a bad hire. Regardless of the hire, it looks like Texas should move on from RT. You can make the right decision in looking for a different coach but get the hire wrong. That's how I would look at it, anyways.

That's why I hope there's no uncertainly with it. Go pay for a proven name. Let there be no ambiguity about the decision.

What you mean?  Texas going to elite 8 and Terry getting a 6 year extension, no?

It would be harder to cheer for Terry if he goes somewhere else and does well and Texas fucks the hire up.

But I'm more confident in CDC making a good hire than I am RT doing really well somewhere else.

Definitely agree with you. I wasn't really considering the first part of your statement re: Terry going somewhere else and killing it; just what happens at Texas.

But yes, Terry going elsewhere killing it and Texas performing poorly would be a real kick in the nuts. I doubt that complete scenario plays out though.
