Let's not kid ourselves, Miami Vice was the tits.  Soundtrack was amazing.

Oh, zero argument from me.  The opening sequence of the first episode was a jaw-dropping moment in entertainment history.  The visuals, the feel, the song.  I remember coming to school the next day and most every guy was all "DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT?"

I mean, dude ran for 2,003 yards to hold the single season record for YEARS.  So, you know....it's all good.

The episode with Dire Straits' "Brother's in Arms" sticks in my memory.

Punta Cana is sketchy, even at the "high end" resorts.  We watched a couple getting pulled behind a boat on one of those parachutes. Wind blew towards the shore, or the boat slowed down, and they dipped down towards the beach, bounced a couple of times off the sand, and got hung up in volleyball net.

None of the resort employees responded, no medical team.  Left it up to the patrons to help them.  They eventually got them loaded them into an unmarked white van and whisked them away.

I’ve stayed at two high end resorts in Punta Cana. One had top notch service and staff. The other place gave me the creeps.

Totally.  American meatheads love going to foreign beaches.

I disappeared in South Padre. They found me, though.

I actually don't even own a suit currently, but I did order a blazer from Amazon that I wore to my niece's wedding a couple of years ago.

Amazon Blazer is a good band name for a wedding singer for poor people.

Also, you and Helobious should trade notes on shopping for clothing based on Amazon Prime deals. I hear he gets his gold chains and black tees there.

You lived about a mile from the outlet mall.

Suits make sense if you're piddling down to the pub in Wales or some shit. Down Mexico-way (and I am including all the Mexican bits like DR or Costa Rica etc) the only guy in a suit I remember seeing was cranking an old-timey music box.

We are headed down to Punta Cana for a wedding the second week in April. Like OJ, I will be out on the golf course looking for the real killers.

In the DR fancy Guayaberras are considered formal for business. Suits are worn. Central America more suits, unless you are a dictator the BDUs are fine.

I woke up one spring break day on the sand, guessing about 9 am. It took me a while to figure out where i was as... I didn't recall the drive after a evening of binge drinking. Found my car eventually, on the beach. My friend was in it. He didn't know who drove either nor what time we left. I did throw my backpacking gear in the trunk. We lived like Austin homeless for 3 days until I got 2nd degree sun burn on my feet, the entirety of the tops. We went to Matamoros for pain killers. Got an hourly hotel, I think, dont remember how we paid just how gross.

Friend had to drive home cause even on drugs my feet still hurt so bad. Woke him up at least twice.

There's a reason I dont drink anymore, well, lots of them but that's one of them. Nobody died, to my knowledge. Maybe got a bathroom blow job at a party. Remember being in there with a girl.

Ahhhh.. memories...

Honeymooned in PC and the people working at our resort were awesome. Maybe it varies by resort.

Solid observation. It does vary. Some people die at their resort. Some people honeymoon at theirs..

Plenty of people die inside just a little bit on their honeymoon.

From the comments on the second video: "Back then we had Miami Vice, Exotic supercars and Dire Straits. Today we have Reality TV, Teslas and music from singers I can't even be bothered to mention. We lost it all."

Back in the late 1980s, when it was still a derelict shell of a building, my high school crew may have snuck in it and gone exploring a time or two.

No, I'm a Mighty Steer, but I did go out to Glasscock County with the same crew I mentioned looking for y'all's glowing grave late at night. I graduated in the same class as Pze and was a good friend of a friend of Tex (RIP). If you're from the Big Spring/Garden City area, you've likely heard of that family.

The hotel reopened in 2012, so it's been open a little while now. It's got a nice restaurant and bar on the ground floor that's a good place to get together with friends when visiting town.

csb:
The painting is the mom of local native Brint Ryan (Ryan LLC), to whom he dedicated the hotel's restoration. If I remember the story right, his parents had just gone through a rough divorce when he was a kid, and his mom went out partying at a local bar. This would've been the late 70s/early 80s. Anyway, near the end of the night, she was out in the parking lot and was accidentally run over and killed. So that painting and plaque underneath it were dedicated to her.

another csb:
The dad of one of my best friends used to tell us that back in the day before it closed, the folks who ran the place were in cahoots with drug smugglers who'd fly in their product from Mexico. The story went that if they knew the cops were waiting for a flight of smuggled drugs to come in, the owners would only light up part of the sign to where it would read "HOT SET," like a hot setup or something. The story was likely bullshit, but a lot of old-timers have similar stories about the hotel being a vice den with gambling and prostitution back in the 1970s.

I'm sure the penthouse on the 15th floor has lots of stories to tell. From what I've heard, it was basically run like a casino up there. I bet they did good business, too, between all the airmen at the base (Webb AFB, now closed) and area oilmen/cattle ranchers.

Alas, we were just born too late.
