Things you own that you have never bought.

I have never bought tupperware in my life. I have a pantry full of it.

To the best of my knowledge I have never purchased a clothes hanger. I have probably 100 of them.

Never bought an umbrella. I own probably five of them.

Don't remember ever buying a clothespin. I have a drawer in my kitchen full of them.

You get the point. Am I a secret klepto and just don't realize it? Where did all this shit come from?

I've never bought an umbrella, although I did try, once.

I had found myself on a plaza in a small town in Spain. There was not a cloud in the sky, it was noon, and I felt like I was in danger of ignition. I found a shop with men's wear on display, and in my not merely broken but compoundedly fractured attempt at Spanish, I tried to come up with some description of an umbrella. The young man trying to help me with my desired purchase finally gave up, motioned for me to bide a while, went next door and returned with an older gentleman who spoke a bit of English. They jabbered at each other for a few minutes. The older man turned to me and asked "My young friend wishes to know why you want a parachute with which to whip your horse?

The store did not have any such thing, and I resorted to going to the nearby hotel, and alternately shower and loll in the bed until shadows crept across that plaza.

I have bought wooden clothespins, though. They are nearly always in use in my kitchen, holding closed various sacks and bags of bread, chips, chocolates and whatnot, far better than any plastic pieces of chinese clipcrap I've ever seen.

Im gonna profess to something embarassing which is that I spent $300 on an umbrella, which I lost after a few months, so I spent $250 on a replacement, which I basically never ever used again.

As a man, The answer you’re all looking for is either:

Pens

Plastic HEB bags

And at least one tool you borrowed once and never gave back.

Or a combination of all of them.

Anything else is just shit your wife bought / buys that she didn’t / doesn’t consult you about.

I have a golf rangefinder that I have on long-term loan.  Played in a golf tournament at least two years ago.  Invited by a buddy.  He put together a team last minute.  I kind of knew the third guy but had never met the fourth.  Fourth guy was from Houston.  He left right after golf and left his rangefinder in his cart.  We found it after he left.  I was headed to Houston the next week for work, so I volunteered to sync up with him.  Got his number from the third guy.  Texted him when I was on the way, and he never responded.  Tried to reach out to him on two other occasions when I was headed to Houston.  I even verified the number was correct.  Zero replies.  Nada.  Hence the long-term loan situation.

This is a probably an embarrassing one, but I’m almost 40 and I’ve never purchased a car.

In HS and college I was driving my dad’s old truck. It was mine to use during that time but I never owned it. For college graduation my parents bought me a Toyota Camry. I drove that Camry for almost 15 years until a few years ago when my grandfather called me and offered me his car. He was moving into an assisted living facility and can’t drive anymore.

I offered to purchase it from him or at least give him the proceeds of the sale from the Camry but he wouldn’t have it. Just told me to put the Camry money in my daughter’s 529 college account so that’s what I did.

The car I got from him is in great shape, and vehicles (clearly) aren’t something I really give a shit about outside of practicality. It’s great not having a car payment and I’ll probably keep driving it until the wheels fall or another option somehow falls into my lap.

I've never bought a koozie, and I have a drawer full of them. I think that's just the transient nature of the koozie, though. Neighbors come over to shoot the shit in my garage and leave an empty with a koozie on it. Throw it in a drawer, and the next time someone comes over and needs one, I toss them one out of my drawer that they end up taking home with them. I bet the life of a koozie looks like one of those Family Circus maps of Billy going from point A to point B.

I’ve never bought a shoe bag for travel. For many years American Airlines provided them for free on their international flights. I have about a dozen that I still use today. I also went 25 years never buying lip balm, toothbrushes, toiletry bags, and sewing kits for the same reason. I still have a tub full of dozens of each of these items. It’s ridiculous.

A wallet. Show enough people your raggedy old one and somebody will eventually buy one for you.

Never bought a wallet or cologne.  Always Christmas gifts.

Ask for, or buy yourself, a Saddleback Leather wallet.

Texas company, and I bought myself a wallet around 12 year ago. It's been going strong until the last 6 months when a small thread inside the bills holder came slightly loose. They'll replace it, if I wasn't too lazy to go through process. Has a 100-year warranty. Very solid craftsmanship.

I was not compensated for this message. However, if any manager or owner reads said message I will accept compensation in the form of a leather tow belt.

Twist-ties. We used to save the ones that came in boxes of sandwich bags, but now they're all ziplock baggies. So I keep ones from loaves of bread.

Slightly off center of this question, but my late brother-in-law never had a job interview. He joined the Marine Corps after high school, served 22 years and retired. While laying around the house a few months after retiring, a buddy he served with called and said he was working at our local AFB and would my BIL like a job up there with him. He said yes and worked there until he unexpectedly passed away.

My father never had a job, ran cows until he died. When I was just out of college I was complaining about a bad boss and he was in the middle of giving me some (probably very good) advice when I realized out loud, "Have you ever even had a boss?"

Pecans for me. When I was a kid, my family would find all the pecan trees on our deer lease and pick them all up for candy, pies, and cakes. I have nine pecan trees now, and get at least a couple of hundred pounds off of them each year. Mrs. CHIEF shells out a couple of gallon bags and sends them to a work colleague, that is probably her best work friend, that lives in New Jersey.

That's great and all but I would prefer money.

Good one. Not only have I never bought a koozie, but I don't even use them. I've probably got four in my kitchen.

I never bought a pair of tits. But I got em. I’m pretty proud of that.

still haven’t paid for love.

I prefer to take the cheap branded ball point pens at the restaurants. I’ve got a Clark’s aspen pen that I love.

I don’t buy foot massagers or back rub things or other body things like that but my mom gets them for me every Xmas.

I don’t buy shitty wine but people give it to us all the time.
