Preliminarily, apparently the manner of death would be by asphyxia after a possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food,” an Organismo de Investigación Judicial spokesperson told NBC News in a March 24 statement translated from Spanish. “At the moment it is a death under investigation and is awaiting the results of the autopsy, as well as the analysis of the Toxicology Section, to determine the exact cause of death.”

Funny how that worked out.

Rafael Devers will serve as the primary designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox this season, opening the third-base job for newcomer Alex Bregman.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed the team's plans Wednesday during an interview with sports radio WEEI, adding that the move shows Boston is "in the winning business."

Cora's announcement came nearly two weeks after Devers backed off his stance from earlier this spring, when he declared that third base was "my position" after the Red Sox signed Bregman. The three-time All-Star said on March 13 that he was "good to do whatever," even if that meant being a DH.

"We made a decision," Cora told WEEI on Wednesday. "Alex is going to play third, Raffy's going to DH. We all are in the winning business, and [Devers] understands that."

First time it’s ever happened for the Yankees.

over 18,000 games.

Biggio batted leadoff some in his first few years when he was catching, right?

The only catcher I remember being the regular leadoff hitter was Jason Kendall, and that's because literally every game, the announcers would talk about how unusual it was to have a catcher lead off.

Why the fuck do we not have automated Balls& Strikes in MLB this season?

It's so fucking dumb that it doesn't exist yet.  Proven to work time after time.

For Biggio, only batted leadoff in about 35 of the 410 games he caught.

Hard to crack the leadoff spot on those late 80s/early 90s Astros teams with guys on the roster like Eric Yielding and Gerald Young (who incidentally was my “Nobody understands the lifelong bond between a boy and the mediocre MLB player he watched when he was 10”.  Fun fact: Gerald Young was the first Honduras-born  baseball player to make the major leagues. The second, as we all know, was Mauricio Dubon).

Baseball’s Wealth Gap Has Become a Chasm—and Is Stretching the Sport to Its Breaking Point
As a new season gets under way, the financial disparity between MLB’s 30 teams has never been greater, alienating fans, distorting the game and making a long work stoppage all but inevitable

My college roommate was from Clear Lake HS, and he was absolutely convinced that Gerald Young was going to be the greatest CF since Willie.

Need to wrap up this Dbacks game to see if Quick Pitch is introducing any new talent tonight.

The Spring Training one that I saw had no one.  Just straight into announcer cuts setting up the game.

Personally I think promotion/relegation would be a hilarious way of punishing the shithead owners in Pittsburgh and Miami.
