Yeah - T14 means he sucks

He was literally never in contention and finished 8 shots back. He’s borderline irrelevant at this point as a serious contender week to week let alone at a major.

in their head, they've already spent their money
In the article, they say the family has already sold another property they owned nearby to ANGC for $1mm+ a number of years ago. It's not like granny or the family is holding out for some moral cause, or she just really, really loves her home. They know that every year that goes by, their price goes up. It's just a final bit of inheritance to share once she's gone. Six months later, it will be razed & part of a parking lot.

Very amateur. I know he switched sponsors - I did not know if clubs were involved.

He's always been Titleist for gear.  Signed a huge sponsorship deal with under armour and his game hasn't been the same.  I think it had more to do with him being on one of the most ridiculous heaters in golf history with the putter for about three years and then not being able to sustain that. Because it was impossible.

But, Rory's game also kind of went to shit for a while after he signed his huge Nike deal.

Tough to be hungry when you're full.

Good lord, you guys pontificating on Spieth switching sponsors or equipment might want to use a thing called the internet and look at pictures or watch videos of what he was wearing in 2015 when he won two majors (hint.. it was Under Armour) or 2017 when he won the British (hint.. it was Under Armour).  Spieth has always been with Under Armour and Titleist.  Like, his entire professional career.  If by "his game hasn't been the same" since switching to Under Armour you mean "he won three majors and was the best golfer on the planet for a period of time", you'd be right.  Otherwise, respectfully, you have no idea what you're talking about.

The Champion’s Dinner is going to suck next year compared to this year. Is there any good food in N. Ireland other than a proper chippy?

I like all the food Scheffler had but that menu read like a menu from a Texas Roadhouse.

They'll be eating every variation of potatoes possible.

Was going to post something similar but yours is better. Remembering that Under Armour got a tremendous deal by signing before he won

IIRC they can always order off the "regular" menu. Probably used a lot when Sandy Lyle served haggis

10/10 reading comprehension

You need to work on your word choice in shit talking. Woodcock posted a dumbass meme from a 27-year old movie. You think I “lost” because I don’t like Rory. It was great drama. I do think his bawling on 18th was contrived, but he is a great and I’m happy for him.

I think Rory is a bit of a foodie and has lived in the US as long as he lived in NI. I bet it’s one of the better menus. Nothing will ever be worse than this shit:

Confetti cake?? I didn't think I could dislike this guy more than I already do!

Couples skipping on 16 (everybody who hit a tee shot then attempted a skip, at least for the 90 minutes that we were there). Yes, I saw Rory almost hit the turtle.

If I ever win tickets to the Masters, I hope Freddie is still playing - because I would follow him for quite a while

Spieth's game first went to shit when he started chasing distance.  he got caught up in it like a lot of dudes.  he started spraying it all over the place, and his short game couldn't always bail him out.  this really fucked with his head. this is when you started seeing all those discussions where Greller was shaking his head because Spieth wanted to play hero ball instead of playing smart.

then came the injuries.  then came the children. he just hasn't been right with ball in a while.

in his first five Masters (2014-18), he went T2, 1, T2, 11, 3.  i think most had him slotted for at least 4 green jackets when all was said and done.

since then, like his game, it's been Jekyll and Hyde: T21, T46, T3, CUT, T4, CUT, T14.

if there's ever a major he can win, it's Augusta. mainly because there's no rough and he knows the place like the back of his hand.  but dude needs to win some regular tour stops, like the Valero Texas Open or the Byron Nelson or Colonial.  something to get his head right.

I'm not going to look it up, but I've heard that his GIR and distance have both been in decline for the last 7 years - part of it is his wayward driver, but it is also his iron play. He needs to be healthy and get right with his swing. His short game can still save him, but only to a certain point. But he is still young, sure there are young guns coming on tour every year, but he can still compete, if he can stop playing all over the course.
And if not it was a great 4 year run he had, that was awesome to get to watch.

At least it wasn’t the Swede.  He’d be serving that dried shark cured in urine they eat plus reindeer cheese and ikea meatballs.

I never said he switched shit. I said he got a big fucking check and hasn't been the same since. But in also said i think it had more to do with unreal putting that wasn't sustainable. But good reading comprehension. Do you want a cookie?  A pat on the head?

Spieth was an all-world iron player during the initial run.  Looking at strokes gained stuff, he was pretty much the best ball striker 2014-2017, then wobbled in 2018 and was horrendous in 2019 and 2020. Since then he’s been okay—good enough to win on occasion—except for last year when I guess you can chalk it up to his wrist injury.

Watched a lot of him at the Masters. His driver looks pretty solid but his approach play is still pretty iffy. He just doesn’t seem to stuff shorter irons that much - lots of 25 foot putts.

I still think he’s too talented not to at least get back to contending on a consistent basis.

IIRC in his season where Spieth went nuts, he was making twice as many putts from 20'+ than anyone on tour. His ballstriking was... ok. His driving was... ok. Irons were... ok. Putting was a combination of prime Brad Faxon and God himself. I don't care who you are, that is not sustainable and was the only reason for his incredible run. Once those stopped falling, it was an inevitable decline.

I was pretty close to this viewpoint at this time. Top row of the grandstand on 16. Was sitting next to a green jacket. I held off from commenting about cell phones not being allowed when he pulled his out to read a text message.

And yes, that's Jon Rahm still on 15 at the top of the Freddie photo...

That was a great set of groups that came through at that time.
