Seth Meyers Thank You GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

All the stadium expansion talk is so stupid. We don’t fill it now and the place is full of our opponents fans. The number of empty seats in our section is insane. When our group is planning to use all of ours and needs extra, we just buy GA because we know the section with our season tix will have plenty of seats to sit in.

Who gives a shit. Fix some of the concourse and problem solved. The layout for the seating is great for viewing.
The current layout also allows for great sight lines from any seat. I really don’t want to move to the current trend of seats moving back from the infield instead of up.

Maybe someone has a link to sail the 7 seas, but cable login is needed to watch SECN+ games on ESPN app

I have it thru Disney and I’m still getting nothing.   This is definitely harder to find and watch than Longhorn Network, I could always find a pirate site that streamed the channel live when I wasn’t home.

D1 Baseball article about last night's game:

Spoiler
by: Kendall Rogers Mar 23, 2025

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle is only a month into the season in his first campaign in Austin, and he already has seen enough to know that his players are bought into the new coaching staff’s system.

Proof positive of that was Saturday night’s game against LSU, which the Longhorns won 11-7 thanks to a mid-to-late inning offensive surge.

It starkly contrasted the series opener between the Tigers and Longhorns. In the opener, LSU starting pitcher Kade Anderson showed elite overall stuff and kept the Longhorns from ever getting into a groove.

Fast forward to Saturday night’s game. The Tigers and Longhorns traded two runs in the fourth inning before hard-hitting LSU got an RBI double from Jared Jones, an RBI single from Jake Brown and plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Playing catch-up against LSU is typically a recipe for disaster … unless you were Texas on this particular night. Texas, for the most part this season, has answered the bell when needed. Earlier this week, the Longhorns dropped a midweek bout to UTSA. But in that game, the Longhorns and Roadrunners essentially traded making big pitches late in the game.

This time, against the nation’s No. 2 team, the Longhorns traded punches using an improved and patient offense, partly led by surging slugger Rylan Galvan.

After LSU went up 5-2 in that fifth inning, Schlossnagle turned to look at his dugout. He didn’t quite see the same energy and enthusiasm that he did when the Longhorns were up against it at times last weekend in Starkville. He reminded his team of that.

“We are down 5-2, and I think I said in the dugout at that point that this isn’t the same dugout that I saw out in Starkville, Miss. It was kind of a woe-is-me feeling — maybe a little shell-shocked,” Schlossnagle said. “It wasn’t the same dugout. Not that I had anything to do with this, but after that, Mendoza hits that liner off the second basemen’s glove out to right field.”

Mendoza’s hit, which was 102 mph off the bat, set the stage for a huge four-run inning. Jalin Flores, who also had a huge night at the plate, had a fielder’s choice before Galvan, who has now homered in four straight games, went to the plate. Galvan annihilated a 95 mph heater from LSU starting pitcher Anthony Eyanson for a three-run shot that was 105 mph off the bat.

Though the Tigers responded in the sixth inning for two runs, Galvan’s home run in that situation gave Schlossnagle a glimpse at what type of team he has in this Longhorns group. It also gave him and the coaching staff a continued look at their improvements with Galvan.

Galvan, a 6-foot, 205-pounder, was not known as a premium power producer during his last two seasons with the Longhorns. Pop? Absolutely. But a consistent and dangerous power threat? Not really. He hit .226 with limited power production as a freshman before hitting .287 with eight homers and 37 RBIs last season. Solid production for sure, but not near the level he’s at now.

Galvan, who hit a home run last weekend against MSU that may still be traveling, has developed into much more than just the heart and soul of this program. He has evolved into a premier hitter with big-time power. After Saturday’s game, he has a batting average just north of .310 with nine homers and 23 RBIs.

Asked when he began to see a shifting tide with Galvan, Schlossnagle offered this up.

“It was probably a month ago. It was a period right before we went to Las Vegas where Troy did some things with him,” Schlossnagle said. “He made some changes with his mechanics, and he made some changes with his mindset, too. I’m not sure he had been as confident of an offensive player as he is a defensive player, and he’s a really solid defensive player. He made some physical adjustments and got himself into a much better head space.”

Galvan also made some personal adjustments. He worked on getting the head of the bat out there a bit more and even shifted the size of his bat to a 33.5-inch bat to accomplish that goal. That simple change has paid dividends for the veteran backstop.

“I just went to work on the timing aspect of things — I was trying to stay on the heater and not to be late with the bat,” he said. “I know earlier in the year, it seemed like whatever I did, I was kind of missing on fastballs. I kept fouling things off to the right side. So, I went to work with Tulo on those things and more.”

Galvan’s emergence into a front-line hitter is trouble for opposing teams moving forward. Along with his night, Jalin Flores, one of the premier shortstops and hitters in the country, had a home run, three hits and two RBIs, while fab freshman Adrian Rodriguez added three hits. Overall, the 3-4-5 hitters in the UT lineup finished with eight hits and six RBIs, while six-hole hitter Kimble Schuessler had two hits and three RBIs.

“I thought that was a really good team win against a really good team,” Schlossnagle said. “This was a game between two great programs at a classic stadium with awesome fans. LSU is just such a good team.

“I’ve learned enough about this team already,” he added. “We went to Starkville for our first SEC series and those guys heard all about playing in the SEC on the road. It’s a super privilege to play baseball in this league, but it’s still baseball. They’re playing at a program like Texas, and there’s something that comes with that.”

The Longhorns, and Galvan, are making strides sooner than expected. Now, on Sunday, they have a chance to notch a series win over juggernaut LSU.

Texas fab freshman Adrian Rodriguez continues to stand out

When Jim Schlossnagle and his coaching staff made the move from A&M to Texas in the offseason, 6-foot-2, 210-pound freshman infielder Adrian Rodriguez, a commitment to the Aggies at the time, made the move with them and became a Longhorn.

Rodriguez was a highly successful prep product from the DFW Metroplex, but his instant and significant impact at the plate has been somewhat surprising to Schlossnagle himself.

“He wasn’t the biggest recruit we had, but we really liked him during our time at A&M, and we were super thankful he decided to come here,” Schlossnagle said. “He’s in that space where he’s like a rookie who gets called up to the big leagues, so he gets some pitches to hit until he starts to make a name for himself.

“There’s an adjustment period, and there’s an adjustment he has made to stay on the ball the other way since he has been here. He’s growing from both sides of the plate, and he’s a freshman growing up in the SEC.”

Rodriguez, who has an old-school hitting approach, had yet another productive night in the win over LSU. He went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. He also had one at-bat in particular that caught my attention. In the seventh inning, LSU shifted away from the bag at third base and left the entire left side of the infield vacant. Rodriguez adjusted and sprayed a single to left field in an inning that ended with the Longhorns scoring two runs.

It was a veteran adjustment for a hitter new to the SEC.

“I think he’s one of those guys who has a lot of confidence in himself,” Texas veteran shortstop Jalin Flores said. “He’s one of those guys who can walk into the place and be himself and play free. A lot of guys respect that — it’s pretty cool to see how he handles pressure.”

Rodriguez is now hitting .305 with four homers and 11 RBIs, and is certainly one of those guys who is playing much better than even his numbers would indicate.

On my tv, you have to search for/open the ESPN app and then there’s a sports menu. “College baseball” then lists a shitload of games, including sec plus.

You have to have sec network on your cable package to get sec plus on espn

I guess Schloss doesn't have the horses yet but I really hoped we would move to having 3 starters this year instead of the 1.5 + a grab bag we went with under Pierce.

That pipsqueak isn't an inch over 5'6" and it looked like Jay Johnson is even shorter.

Had no idea Jay Johnson was so small either. Galvan who is 6 foot towered over that ss when he stood at the plate.

on the browse page with all the games listed, go up to the search icon and type in LSU, scroll down the pop-up box and click on the baseball game link.  It's there.

It’s not on mine under Disney ESPN+ app, shows up on the espn website but when you click play it opens the ESPN app and that asks for a TV provider to watch it.  So SEC+ is unwatchable even though you subscribe to ESPN+ if don’t have a tv provider..   I give up, this is much worse than Longhorn Network.

It's whack-a-mole for sure.  Some bloody times, it's on a channel that's on both + and a cable channel.

So the gravelly-voiced guy that talks a lot is Ty?

Oddball accent, not at all Texan.

It's really crap. I readily found the game today on the ESPN app that's on my NVIDIA Shield Pro (connected to living room TV), but I've had all sorts of trouble over the last couple of weeks with both UT baseball and softball. Have had to hop around between Disney+, ESPN, YTTV, scan codes and enter passwords and more codes ... often to no avail. Maddening.

Currently working on my desktop in the home office, and the only way I could find the baseball game -- despite having both the ESPN and YouTube desktop apps -- was to go to texassports.com and just click on "video" under the game listing for today. That seems to communicate perfectly with ESPN/SECN+ on my desktop. But I hate that I can't access any of the standard YTTV functionality for recording, FF/RW and whatnot.

Conclusion: ESPN/+/SECN+ suck aggy balls, if there is such a thing. But at least we just scored.
