He tucked the ball into his side, at the foul line and then took two steps. That’s a travel.

I'm not debating how the rule should be called I'm saying that based on how the rule actually is called that's not much of a travel.

It was traveling. Is it called anywhere close to the rule book now? No. Two different things

Exactly.

in fact it was even more egregious because of how long his steps were. it wasn't some small shuffle.  he gained a serious advantage.  If he has to shoot it off his other foot he likely doesn't make it because he wouldn't have been able to turn his body to the bucket.

My champ is still alive (Auburn). But my bracket is otherwise fucked, might be my worst year ever. Houston and Florida going to the Sweet 16 killed me.

Bet against Auburn next round, folks.

Is anyone good enough to beat Duke?

I think Tenn or Houston could beat them but Houston would be up against the Duke ref mafia and with their play they'd probably be in serious foul trouble by halftime.

I wanted an elbow to the head to get called and numerous travel calls throughout, but that's not a thing.  I don't know what a travel or foul is anymore.  It's why I don't watch basketball much, but Florida is going to destroy Maryland.

They kept it up long enough, looks like the fighting Beards are headed to the Sweet Sixteen.

They were a horrible program when he arrived, yeah somebody will take him at a better place.

Beard not gonna be at ole Miss much longer.

That dude gonna take over for Izzo or few. Or whoever at unc. Or bring back any old use to be good program. Indiana ? Butler ?

UNC unlikely.  I bet Tenn goes after him if Barnes decides to hang it up.  he's not going to go to Gonzaga for sure.

Ole Miss has never made an elite 8 and hasn't been to the sweet 16 since 2001.

Watching this just reminds me why this guy wins in March and had Texas Tech a few minutes away from a national title.

They play smart situational basketball. Right now if you notice they will not give up the 3. They aren't sagging to help off the drive as quickly and they aren't diving under screens. On offense they're maintaining their motion offense and aren't trying to sit on the lead like fools.

This dude is an elite coach. And we fucked it all up.

That was the most blatant travel I have seen in a long time and the fact that the announcers are gonna pretend like that didnt even happen is fucking insane. The NCAA wanted a made for TV moment more than they wanted a fairly called game. How is that not reviewable. I am sick for Colorado State, their entire season up in smoke because some slapdick ref cant see the most blatant travel call of the year on the final play of the game. Gross

He took four steps on a spin move earlier in the game.

He fucked it up for himself. Like Chris Beard is a human being, he has agency. He could have not gotten fired from his job at the University of Texas very easily.

That's just stupid. He's the elite talent. He's the one destroying 3 seed ISU right now with a low level program while we embarrassed ourselves losing in the first 4 play in. He's the one that will be getting another elite job very soon, probably at UNC or Kansas, while we try to throw enough money to get Sean Miller over the hump.

There's a reason elite talent gets major leeway. Why Michael Jordan could punch the shit out of teammates in practice. Why Shaq could be supremely lazy and almost never practice hard. Why Michael Irvin could almost kill a teammate with scissors to the neck in training camp. Why Urban Meyer could cheat and fuck around as much as he wanted.

Elite talent cannot be replaced easily if at all. Once you have an elite talent, you do everything to make sure it works as long as they're producing elite results.

I think if CDC could do it over again he would put him on administrative leave and suspend him for the year (but bring him back). But I dont blame him for firing him. Domestic abuse is a serious issue and should be taken seriously, even moreso because he is a representative of the university (and we are a school with a reputation worth protecting). And given the state of cancel culture at the time, the chances were essentially zero that he would survive that scandal. The student body wouldve rioted. And that wouldve been a much bigger issue than being good at basketball.

Correct me if I'm misremembering, but didn't Chris Beard politely scoff at the notion of a suspension?

I am unsure, but I do remember Chris making things worse for himself instead of better in the immediate aftermath. I think there was a very narrow path for him and he played his cards very wrong.
