I would expect Codie and Vinson to make big jumps this year as they keep gaining strength and adjusting to this level of competition.  I would love for them to be in the program for 3-4 years. They are essential players to re-sign.

I liked Pryor,

I got excited when he hit the floor.. the dude got hops. reminded me of a taller weaver

Pryor has borderline NBA-level athleticism, but he has a long way to go to reach his potential. In my view, he won't be ready to contribute 25+ mpg on an elite team by next year regardless of how good Sean Miller might be.

I wish we could keep him, but we will likely bring in someone better in the portal.

As an example of a replacement, we could very well bring in somebody like this:

Dailyn Swain - 6'8, 220 small forward - Big East All Freshman Team

Devon Pryor - 6'7, 180 small forward

Yeah not sure that's a number anyone is in a hurry to match.

Best of luck to him.

Well it won't be Swain per the last page

Haith should be unemployed

Rodney Terry should be the person most upset with Frank Haith

RT brings his buddy Frank in to run the offense and Frank decides to install the "piss down your own leg and collect $2 million as an Associate Head Coach" offense over the last 2 years.

RT picks almost anyone else as his top assistant and he's probably still employed at Texas.

What are your thoughts on the hire, Pancho? Say, on a scale of 1-10? I'm somewhere around an 8+. Not that you asked!

Gerry said that Haith wasn't really allowed to do much offensively. This entire fuckup rests squarely on Terry's shoulders.

RT should have hired better assistants.  Haith was a such terrible hire -- couldn't believe it when RT hired him.

RT looks into a mirror for who to blame

our offense was better than our defense.

if this is surprising to you, you might be one of the many people here who have downplayed or underestimated our talent level this year. our offensive scheme was dog shit, and it was painful to watch so much of the time. that’s facts. but we still managed to score plenty of points and even scored fairly efficiently because we had individual talent commensurate with a team that spends the entire season in the top 25 and that goes to the S16. yeah, RT might still be here had we been better offensively, but it’s his trademark “every three is a wide open three” defense that really did us in.

sec defensive ranks:

TO%- 13th (226th nationally)

FTA/FGA- 16th

3P%- 12th

FT%- 13th

Steal%- 15th

Yeah I was going to say Tre was a big reason for that offensive rating. He was a legitimate top 5 scorer in college basketball.

He also wasn't very good on defense.

if anyone ever releases a comprehensive highlight reel of tre’s one year here, his shot selection is going to really stand out. that dude is so unbelievably talented that he was able to score with relatively high efficiency despite taking an inordinate amount of incredibly difficult shots.

short list of best scorers in Texas history, no order:

KD

Jim Krivacs

Mike Wacker

Travis Mays Tre Johnson

Terrence Rencher

note: as hard as this is for me to do, i’m actually leaving out guys like reggie freeman, j’covan brown, and jordan hamilton. they either weren’t efficient enough or weren’t consistent enough. hell, maybe junior year hamilton deserves to make that list. either way, the ooont stands: 18 year old Tre Johnson is one of the all time great scorers in Texas Basketball history.

500k sounds like a lot but I wonder how it looks with revenue sharing and rising budgets.

Altman is a good coach, so my first thought is damn - how badly did RT misuse and mismanage him?

I don't know shit about fuck, and he was probably about 4th or 5th on my wish list, but I feel pretty good about the direction of the program after watching his intro press conference.

With much more NIL to work with, I have an inkling that he'll do pretty good here. He adapts and has a great offense. There's only so much you can do at Xavier.

Now he'll have a kings ransom to go get who he wants. I'm excited for the first time since Beard was hired.

Krivacs is the first UT basketball player that I saw live who I immediately began rooting for. His shot was deadly.

he’s AJ/KD levels of “pure shooter”. if he’d played with a 3 point line he’d hold a whole bunch of records at UT. he’s on the very short list of best shooters in UT history- possibly the best ever.

What makes Haith a terrible? I'm genuinely curious what makes your basketball acumen judge him as terrible.

I'm excited about what Miller can do.

I don't think as highly of him as I did Beard, but he's a better offensive coach than Beard, he's a really good recruiter, he'll bring players from overseas, and he has some huckster in him to go out there and sell tickets, which is an underappreciated (and frankly I wish an unnecessary) part of the job. He also wanted the job badly, reaching out after Beard was fired and then this time around.

I hope we catch lightning in a bottle, but even if we don't, he's someone who can deliver consistent second weekend tournament finishes over the rest of his career. I'd love to see him make his first Final Four at Texas. I doubt I ever completely get over the Beard debacle, but this helps me get over the Rodney Terry debacle, which IMO was always going to end one way.

I'm also extraordinarily grateful we didn't have to endure 6 years of Terry the way we did Shaka Smart. I'm also grateful for all of Terry's contributions to Texas basketball, which have not been small. He got Peter Principled through no fault of his own. I hope he socked away some of those big paychecks over the last couple of years. He's a solid assistant that would be a bonus to just about any bench in college basketball.

Let's see what Miller comes up with for his first roster, but it's his second year I'm looking forward to even more.

Strange we've gone from the Big 12 which was the best basketball conference in the country, to the SEC, which is now way more of a gauntlet than the Big 12 was, and the Big 12 was a meat grinder. And we now see Beard and Barnes on a regular basis. Kind of weird.

Well said man.

The Big XII is still pretty damn good.

I think the revenue sharing is $8 million next season? And some schools like Villanova will put most of it to basketball

That said, I assume with schools like us and Oregon fighting over someone like Pryor for $500K that's more from the donors. It's a high number for a guy who so far has only proved he's athletic.

Terrible results at Texas... Lots of criticism of the Haith hire by RT when it happened

Nah he has a really nice shooting stroke. .650 from 2 - .810 from the line this season. No 3 ball yet but he should be able to add that. I would have loved to keep him but he ain't worth 500k.
