Miller was hired weeks ago and people are still whining about their preferred candidate not being the hire

It took Bill Self 5 years to win a title.  BUST!!!

Kelvin Sampson still hasn't won a title at Houston.  BUST!!!

Tom Izzo hasn't won a title in 26 years.  BUST!!!

🙄🙄🙄

Don't forget the most underachieving coach of all time - Coach K. That bum took 16 years (11 at Duke) as a HC to win a title. Unacceptable.

I think what golden did at Florida is rare obviously but shows what matters most is having guys that are upperclassmen and having the right mix to what you wanna do. RT just went out and took guys and he didn’t have a system at all. We definitely need a PG but if millers system is at its best when he has high level 3 point shooters then it might take a couple of years.

For sure.   But we would’ve fired golden after his first year here with that record.   Also doesn’t he have some ethical challenges?

Not that I know of. And we wouldn’t have fired him after 1 year. Can’t even remember the last Texas fired a coach after 1 season.

This is great when fans say coach has to have p4 experience before taking a job at Texas.

Miller has 3 years to win a title or he's a fucking bust.

You're such a beating

“Investigation”

I think it was something like sending creeper/stalking pics to coeds, mixed in with the occasional dick pic. I don’t think there is any question of if he did it or not because there was plenty of evidence. It seemed to go quiet in the news cycle fairly quick and that file sure as shit has been set on fire and is gone now after winning the natty.

As I watched the Final Four and tonight's game, I kept thinking "we aren't even close to being in the same orbit as these teams".  I hope Miller can change that, but I don't think it's a short-term project.

Be easy, mon ami.  Someone should tell Schloss this because he's definitely not a believer.

If we’re supposed to be the Jones’ why couldn’t we land Mike Malone?

If Malone isn't hired as an analyst tomorrow, Miller is a bust.

so I can't really pay as much attention to this as I'd like, attention span, work, family, texas baseball, contingent escape plans in case LE knocks on my door, etc....  are those in the know good with this hire?  I keep reading international connection, offensive coach, etc. but ballers are ballers so okay re international. yay for offense, not sure his defenses are good enough but I don't know. can we be in the top 5 of the SEC with this guy and occasionally make a run at the conf title?

Reading the board Id say it’s 70/30 in favor of the hire.  I think a big part of the 70 group just wanted to be done with Rodney.

I was lukewarm initially but I think this has a chance to be successful.  His resume is actually almost as good as Rick’s is now and certainly better than when we initially hired Rick and Shaka. Sean has a lot of conference titles and his zona teams were an issue.

a big part of the 30 wanted guys like Pearl, Sampson, golden, oats, Donavan, Hurley, wright, Snyder , etc.   why would they leave a great situation for a rebuild?

that's kinda where I landed. even sark was a bit of a risk. scholss is the only major mens sports coach that was a can't miss. no way we are getting those other guys for Texas basketball (some are too old, I've grown to like Sampson but he's 69). hopefully Sean Miller is on a upward surge, still learning from his program mistakes and can use our resources to propel further than he's gone before.

seems like a slightly positive (not neutral or negative), wait and see hire.

At a minimum we can say it's "Miller Time" and that's pretty cool.  Not as cool as Shaka lacka or what a smart team, or bust open the barn doors the longhorns are coming, but i mean what could you do with weltlich or penders, not much. Miller time it is!

Yea millers resume is far beyond sarks.   Miller has multiple conference titles.

Well, Sark only had 6 seasons as a head coach under his belt when hired him, and the first 5 were at UDub where he took over a program that had gone 0-12 the season before.  They finished 3rd in the Pac_whatever North in his 3rd and 5th years, and USC finished 2nd in the South before he flamed out and drank himself out of a job.

If Miller is as successful at Texas as Sark has been, I'll be thrilled.

Sure but Texas football is a far bigger job than Texas basketball.  I hope Sean is every bit as successful as Sark.  I can root for both. It wasn’t meant as an insult to Sark.  He wasn’t even a hc when he hired him.   And it’s not like sark was some young up and comer.  He wasn’t even already in his late 40s?

Sark was considered the best offensive coordinator in college football when we hired him. Is Miller considered the best at anything in his respective sport?

Texas Basketball: We might make an Elite 8!

It's just absolutely insane how low yalls expectations are for basketball given the new landscape.

Oh in that case let’s go get the best offensive coordinator in basketball!!

schools like Texas don’t generally hire coordinators as head coaches. Glad sark has worked out but of course we’re one of the five wealthiest football schools.  Not sure where we are in basketball

BRB. Must look up who Dan Hurley offensive coordinator is

ill also bet that Sean’s first year will be better than sarks first year.  We can have @immamac hold the money.  1k?

And that shit is why Texas has generally hired like shit since DKR. They have all these preconceived notions of what you need to be to be a coach at Texas instead of just going out and hiring best possible candidates whether that is a coordinator or HC. Dabo was a position coach before HC, Ryan was the OC before HC, Smart was a DC before HC.

In basketball that is a coach that may not have experience at a larger school. Texas would never hire the coach who just won a title from San Francisco just because he's never coached at some arbitrary conference level or some bullshit.

Easier to be better in year 1 in basketball and flip a basketball team than football. Just a retarded bet.

We should be competing for a FF by year 3, if not we will never.

Are you stuck in the 1980's? Beard showed up and there was zero talent left on the roster. At the beginning of his second season before he fucked up, he had a top 5 squad that notched wins over #2 and #7 in the first few weeks of the season. Even a mediocre coach like RT almost got that squad to the final four. Texas has money and the recruiting portal is a thing now. No reason for any rebuild to be a long term project in college sports today, especially hoops.

3 schools have made the Final Four more than once in the last 5 years, each with 2 appearances (40%):

UConn

Duke

Houston

It is incredibly difficult to make the Final Four every 3 years (or similar), much less starting from a very mid program.

I didn't say make the final four every 3 years. I said by year 3 we should be competing for a final four appearance.

I understood what you said, I'm saying expecting FF level play by year 3 is inconsistent with what even fully formed programs are doing.  Expecting Kansas or Auburn or UConn or UNC to be at that level of play by 2028 is not born out by history for most programs.

It's a dumb metric.

We should’ve done after them or their coordinators.

Yes.  Perfect.  We must’ve been outbid by Miami.   You got one job CDC!!!  Miami basketball is what we should strive for   What has Lucas won again?

I didn't say we should hire Lucas, did I? Just proving a point that assistants can be hired from programs to be a HC. But Miami basketball has as many FF appearances as we have this century.

So fire Miller if we don't make the Final Four by 2028, that's your angle?

I'll give him 5 years to make a final 4....if he doesn't he wont and he'll 61/62 by that time. Basketball isn't some sport like football that takes 4-5 years to completely turn around. We have some of the best practice facilities, best stadium, and in this portal/NIL era should be some of the best for that as well. Absolutely no excuse for Texas basketball to be content and happy with just making elite 8s

Doesn't matter CDC chose Miller 2.5 years ago until RT threw a wrench in it. But here we are....hope for the best but expect good enough for Texas basketball.

The only reason I am mildly aligned with your point of view is CDC's "top 10" bar.  I don't have the data, but I would assume the top 10 teams in D1 probably make the Final Four every 4-5 years (ish).  Maybe the top few are a little bit better than that.  I'm not bored enough to try to look it up.
