The only reason I am mildly aligned with your point of view is CDC's "top 10" bar.  I don't have the data, but I would assume the top 10 teams in D1 probably make the Final Four every 4-5 years (ish).  Maybe the top few are a little bit better than that.  I'm not bored enough to try to look it up.

I just look at Miller compared to other hires CDC has made and he's no where close to the same as those hires in terms of their place in their sport. Miller currently is not a top 5-10 coach in his sport. He's probably in that 16-25 range.

You obviously can't include Sark in that conversation because he was hired by CDC's bosses and RT was some circumstances built around it with the E8 run.

ENOUGH WE GET IT

It’s a fucking beating. I think quite a few of us were meh as we thought we could get a bigger name but guess what we couldn’t.  Also it’s not really CDCs style to money whip a hire.  Even Beards raise was modest and Sark was paid around what Herman was.  Earn it.

I think Sean will be far better than Rodney.  I wasn’t pro Rodney but at some point you just settle in and root for them.

billy Donavan ain’t walking through that door nor is Dan Hurleys ace offensive coordinator. Sean is here for three years. Can we be positive and just root for the guy?

That should be everyone. It’s just copy/paste criticisms we’ve heard since the day he was hired. He hasn’t coached 1 game here

We deserve top ten in every sport imo and I think we have that in all sports except basketball.
Sark was well thought of, a potential successor for Saban but his resume did not scream top ten.  It was a letdown when he was hired but to surlys credit we rooted for him.  His first few years here were rough.  All that being said,  I think a lot of football coaches could do well here with our resources

Before you type posts like this you should consider:

  • What top 10 coaches were available to hire?
  • Which one(s) would have left their current position for Texas?
  • How much do you think the AD would be willing to pay for one of them?

Who knows, Miller was the hire 2.5 years ago so it doesn't even seem like we did a real search outside of feelers to guys who would obviously say no(Wright, Hurley, etc). All because of Miller having a relationship with CDC's former boss.

Was Todd golden a top ten coach before this year?

I'm not sure I'd argue he's top 10 right now even though he just won. You don't need to be top 10 to win a natty. You need the right head coach, a good stable of assistants, a well constructed roster, and a great support system behind it all. Your facilities, your basketball operations program, the general manager, all that shit is just as important if not more important than the head coach individually.

What would your reaction have been three years ago if we hired a coach from SF or Samford

The Samford coach is laughable hire by Aggie and one they make.

I'd be okay with the coach from SF 3 years ago because the hire at age 36 would show we identified some traits we liked in him and decided to go young vs a guy with 20 years and cashed out on his potential.

Exactly. The hire is made I say we let this play out?  He was successful at UA.  I’m not sure I can judge a guy based on his turn at Xavier

Goldens USF teams finished 5th, 8th and 4th in their conference. McMillan won his conference twice, finished third twice and won coach of the year three times.

Kelvin Sampson is kicking ass and he's almost 70 years old.

Yea millers resume is far beyond sarks.   Miller has multiple conference titles.

except that miller stopped being objectively good years ago, and all of his success came before everyone was allowed to pay players. miller’s resume isn’t anything to brag about, particularly since he got popped on an fbi wiretap talking about buying de’andre ayton. you remember how long ago that was?

You don’t think other coaches were paying players? Will wade was busted too and he’s a prince here.  You really believe Kentucky, Kansas , Duke weren’t paying?  There’s even rumblings that Rick may have not been on the up and up.  Dirty sport. He just got busted.

miller actually has a better winning percentage than Rick and is a spring chicken compared to him

Sampson is a much better coach than Miller, even before Houston.

Sampson was 0.648 before Houston, Miller is 0.713, so I'm not sure I agree with your math there, Lou.

According to BO&W, Billy Donovan would win the title with four guys and a home gym in the back of a church.

How many final fours did Miller make?

Before Sampson got to Houston (You know, after he rehabilitated from his show cause), he had made one Final Four, one Elite 8, and one other Sweet 16.

Miller between his first Xavier stint and Arizona made four Elite 8s and three other Sweet 16s.

So Sampson outperformed him by making the final four. Got it! Good analysis. Also making the final four at Oklahoma vs Arizona....key difference.

I am quite confident you never rooted for Texas before 2006, because if you had observed Sampson at OU then you would be quite indifferent to him as a coach, other than hating his Dirt Burglar guts and his penchant for light blue button down shirts, khaki slacks, and cell phones.

Just stop.  I can't tell what mix of troll and stupid you are, but those make up the lion's share of your character.

I’d like your opinion.  We’re down to six choices:

Johnny Oates

the USF hc (your choice south Florida or San Francisco)

Billy Donavan

John Lucas jr

John Lucas sr

who do we go with?

Hell, Florida’s national championship team did not have a single player ranked in the top 100 out of high school.  The ranking within one’s peer group is important, except when it’s not.

Texas Basketball: We might make an Elite 8!

It's just absolutely insane how low yalls expectations are for basketball given the new landscape.

no dog in fight but isn’t that every teams goal. Tournament run or bust.

This right here. Sampson is a piece of shit that I dont even recognize coaches Houston. He’ll always be that piece of shit from Oklahoma. Fuck anyone that defends that asshole.
