I mean, mods have had to have talks with posters about how to handle discussion with you to avoid a psychosis spiral. If that doesn’t scream safe space idk what does. Seems to be working though.

I’m gonna neg you if you call Chris Bears a wife beater!!!

you say this as if you haven’t been actively whining about every single post that isn’t 100% sunshine pumping. you only want to see positive, optimistic posts in this thread. it’s dumb, the number of times y’all need to be reminded that the very reason shaggy was formed was to get away from exactly that.

seriously, basically every single other UT forum on the internet works that way. reddit, hornfans, 24/7, they all cater to people who can’t handle any criticism of the teams, players, and coaches.  this is the one, single one that doesn’t. if you’re just going to clutter the thread with whiny posts about people being critical of players and coaches then just go to any other forum out there and enjoy yourself in your bubble. stop spending time here being all proud of yourself for whining about actual basketball discussion taking place.

Keep doing what you’re doing. Seriously. I don’t post a lot but I appreciate your perspective and think you’re one of the most knowledgeable basketball posters.

Then why are you bitching about people who don't see eye to eye with you?

How about people who don’t agree with his take counter that take? Instead they shitpost about Derka.

The Texas Basketball twitter account made an "I'm Back" post about everyone except for Pressley and Jamie Vinson. Presley is now out, I wonder if Vinson is the next to go?

lolwut?  Arguing with Derka triggers the freakout.  It doesn't have to be personal.  He can't handle disagreement, yet he lauds surly for being the one place that (checks notes) tolerates disagreement.

nothing he did before then really matters, as a)it was forever ago, b)he was cheating, and c)he hasn’t done anything notable since everyone else was allowed to pay players.

The "he was cheating" thing is ridiculous.

1) Everyone was cheating. He just happened to get caught

2) Pssssttttt you can pay players now

i mean that’s the guy we’re hiring. nothing he did before then really matters, as a)it was forever ago, b)he was cheating, and c)he hasn’t done anything notable since everyone else was allowed to pay players. i’m sure the offense will be better (very low bar), but miller’s defensive numbers kinda suck, and frankly his offensive numbers generally aren’t anything to write home about either. sigh. this really is such an underwhelming hire. we’ll be better, but i seriously doubt we end up being regularly competitive in this league under sean miller.

He inherited a Xavier team that missed the tourney the year before and took them to the sweet 16 in year one. Might have gone further if they didn't match up against that talented, vet laden Texas team. Two years ago isn't recent? Also It took Rick Barnes eight years to make a second sweet 16 at Tennessee. If I comb through the Barnes thread, will I find you arguing that Barnes did nothing of note at Tennessee until 2023?

Do you think Miller was doing anything more egregious than Self, Pitino, and pretty much every other high level coach in the sport? Was he not just playing the game like everyone else? Who else's accomplishments don't count during that time period? Who was totally clean? You keep harping on his cheating and have even called it his "Jackie Sherrill" era which seems pretty hyberbolic. Oh and if I recall, you jizzed yourself when Beard hired Maligi. You were so excited we were finally gonna play the bag game.

the ones who stopped winning at a high level after paying players was legalized. obviously. self won a title a few years ago, and pitino was just named the NCOY. what makes you think that those guys are comparable to sean miller?

i’m gonna use this post to point out that i was met with this exact same reaction when i criticized shaka for bringing david cason, mike morrell, jai lucas, etc in as assistants. instead of going and getting the best guys available he brought in all his buddies who he was comfortable with and kids with no experience. guess what? they weren’t on the level needed to compete in the big xii. now i see sean miller doing the same thing as he enters the SEC, and i don’t think it’s a great move. im allowed to think that. but of course, once again the entire thread is melting down because someone didn’t mindlessly slurp every single move made by the new coach. shit is dumb.

yes he did, and i’m not referring to maligi when i talk about the guys who miller is bringing from his time at xavier.

and look, i sweatergawd i don’t understand why this is such a hot button topic every time. i don’t think i proclaimed miller a failure, i don’t think that ive said that he sucks, or that we’re doomed- ive simply said (in so many words) that im not a huge fan of bringing along assistants with lesser backgrounds when you’re getting hired at a job that’s above the level of anything they’ve done before. that’s it. i truly have no idea why that take is such a huge deal to so many people.

But you feel so attacked when people question you.  Rodney was nobody’s first choice but when the dye was cast it was like chill out we’re here let’s see what happens we’ll likely do this again soon

we didn’t money whip sark or beard to get here. Our philosophy is to make the guy earn it.  No reason to pay a huge buyout and then pay Oats 8 mil or whatever.

miller was probably the best we could get without forking over some real cash and before someone says “we’re Texas and we rich” so what.  It’s not your money.

the pro guys were a pipe dream.  As were Wright, Hurley etc

was miller my first choice?  No.  But he’s here.  He’s gotta be better than Rodney. Maybe he can recruit better here vs Xavier?  Maybe?  If not, maybe three years from now CDC will open up the purse strings

this site would’ve blown up if we had hired a guy with Goldens resume btw.  CDC has not made a mishire.  Let’s relax and let it play out.

never said they have to be brand new acquaintances, but there’s a difference in bringing along your buddies when they’ve coached in the national title game or routinely landed all-league talent as recruiters, and bringing along your buddies whose cv’s don’t show them to be proven top flight assistants.

Who do you think we realistically could have gotten who would have made you happy? Miller wouldn’t have been my first choice, but I am genuinely curious to hear who you think would have taken the job at the money Miller is getting. It was clear we weren’t pulling Oats, Donovan, etc this cycle.

I brought them up because they were caught up in the same Adidas scandal. I don't think of Self or Pitino as former cheaters. And two of the greatest cbb coaches of all time having success post-scandal doesn't prove that Miller was cheating harder.

I bet some Tennessee fans had similar feelings about Barnes when Tennessee hired him. He hadn't been to the second weekend in seven years. Talk about nothing of note. Woof!

i’m not even talking about miller, im talking about his assistant hires. y’all act like this is some brand new idea or something. we’ve got i-don’t-know-how-many years of empirical evidence across all sports worldwide that shows that bringing assistant coaches from a lower level to a higher level doesn’t work as consistently/effectively as hiring assistants with top flight experience, and you guys are incensed that i’m saying as much. if the exact same thing were happening at a&m and i said, “bucky whatshisname bringing all of his buddies with him to a&m isn’t gonna work out” you’d all pos rep me. but when i say it about the Texas Coach you’re all up in arms about it. again: it’s dumb. you’re only upset because im not saying what you want to hear, and you’re mad at me for it.

tennessee fans were calling for barnes’s head this february, just like they do every february, because just like texas fans, they’re a bunch of entitled, front-running, know-nothing, sunshine-pumping-yet-never-happy bunch of retards who both hate all of the coaches and players and yet somehow seem to expect/demand that the team win 25 games every year. congratulations, you’re all fucking stupid.

i have no idea who a realistic hire would have been. 4 weeks ago oats and lloyd were supposedly on the table with an outside shot at few or even bill self. i was even told that self hated this ku team, that ku fans were growing restless, and that one of ku’s biggest basketball boosters “loves UT and wants self to retire there.” did i actually believe that bill self was going to coach at Texas? of course not. at the time i wasn’t even sure if i wanted self because oats, lloyd, and the possibility of a CDC surprise home run hire were all thought to be legitimate possibilities. that’s why miller was/is an underwhelming hire.

with that said, being an underwhelming hire doesn’t mean anything. florida fans weren’t jumping with joy when they hired golden, but they’re pretty got damn happy right now. sean miller might end up being an awesome hire. FTR, i was a big fan of his during his prime AZ years, i am excited about the offense he’s bringing with him, and i am very pleased with his eeely returns in the portal. seriously, super happy. further, his current assistants could all end up being here for the long haul as our program steps into the upper echelon of college basketball. believe me, nobody here wants that to happen more than i do.

but jesus christ people- you can’t jump down my goddamn throat and talk a bunch of crap and start shit-posting 20x per page every time i have an opinion that you disagree with. i should be allowed to say that i don’t agree with a coaching decision without 12 of y’all jumping my shit and sending the thread into a tailspin. ftr i am not referring to @ITHorn when i say this. ITHorn has simply engaged me in basketball related discussion, which i wish could say for the angry mob who swear up and down that *i’m* the one derailing the thread, when in reality it’s now 50% shit talking to/about me, all because my opinion isn’t sunshine and flowers. christ.

that ^^^ is why i’d prefer that sean miller bring in at least one brand new assistant with top flight D-1 credentials. retaining staff harmony/keeping familiar faces around has its merits, but when you have a hole in your game this big (average kenpom defensive finish of 53.7) you have a sweet 16 ceiling 9/10 years. that’s simple fact.

that’s why earlier i mentioned that we will have to be Bama-levels of good on offense if miller’s standard level of defense doesn’t improve. im not out here giving mild criticisms of his hires just so i can piss you guys off, i’m doing it because it’s going to be hard to live up to the standard at UT if we have a porous defense year in and year out. you’re all so fucking pissed at me for worrying about that now, but god forbid we actually struggle defensively in the future and suddenly everyone who’s mad at me now is incensed at miller for not having a better defense. stupid.

how about when barnes brought rob lanier back in 2011 and we had the best offense in Texas history? did an assistant coach change anything about the team then?

Its an underwhelming hire, assistants aren’t changing who he is.

I'm not gonna lie, this is a fucking weird thing to say. What do you think assistants do in college basketball? Go get the head coach coffee and donuts while he tirelessly teaches every player on the roster every aspect of the game and draws up the entire offensive and defensive schemes the team will follow?

Look at Grant McCasland, do you think he was known for offense before he came to Tech? There isn't a person alive that would have predicted his first two Tech teams would play offense like they did. Do you think Chris Beard came up with the style of no-middle defense he likes to play all by his lonesome? No, a good coach finds assistants that, yes, fit his particular style, but will also help him come up with schemes that fit the current meta and construct a roster that will fit those schemes.

Given this kind of comment and a lot of your posts in the coaching search thread, I'm starting to think you don't actually have the first clue as to what you're talking about.

I'm not going to get into a big back and forth about this matter, but your summary of the events is absolutely delusional

You were constantly reporting to blacklabs anything I posted that could maybe/possibly/sort of be misconstrued in a negative manner. You had some weird game in your head that you were playing to try to get me banned and "win."  I didn't break any rules, and I was constantly trying to refrain from posting anything that you could take out of context and whine about, which is why immamac stepped in at the end

It was months worth of ridiculous nonsense based on you constantly whining to blacklabs and asking for me to be banned because you needed a safe space

At one point I was told that you complained that you took me posting the words "Saint Chris Beard" as a personal attack against you and asked to stop posting that phrase, which I did

You waged a months long campaign to get me banned based on the idea that the words I posted were a threat to your mental health and potentially your life. You literally begged for this board to be a safe space for you

I truly wish you all the best and I hope you take care of yourself and find some happiness somewhere somehow

But your summary of the months long Internet War you waged against me under the premise that you needed this board to be a safe space for you, or else you might kill yourself, is fucking delusional
