You're a Dodgers fan, right?

Yeah but but but, they can afford to pay it so they pay it...blah blah blah.

It's always fun when it doesn't apply to your team.

Kevin Willard says players are asking for $2-3,000,000

I'm asking for Ana de Armas to come over to my place and bring Charlize with her.  I'd wager I have a better shot at getting what I'm asking for than the vast majority of players.

The thing is, it isn't just the big D-1 schools that have rich alumni.  With NIL, now any school that has the will to compete can play with the big boys. There is nothing stopping a school like Harvard or Princeton or even Rice from throwing some big money at basketball and immediately dominating.  Kind of like UNLV of the early 90s, except legally.

Exactly. St. John's was ass for 30 years and with Pitino in year 2 they won the big East and made the 2 line. They have a billionaire alum that recently went on record basically saying he'll hand them a blank checkbook.

I think it definitely will hurt some of the mid majors but across the P5 it should if anything level the playing field a bit. And like I said - you just need to drop a few mil total - even - on 3 or 4 of the right guys and anyone can make a run.

“ Mr. Johnson? Hello, Mr. Johnson? Look, this is a bit unusual, but I found this bag of gold coins, and one of the neighbors said they thought it was yours. I’m leaving it by the door. So……..”Go Gata”, I guess.    Call me. “

His NBA slot will be between $10M and $20M total over the next 2 seasons so, good luck.

It means don't call me, I'll call you.

Basically, yeah.  Either they know where they're going or they want to take full control of it and reach out to schools, not have 100+ schools blow up their phone that second.

2023 had 175 players in the portal

2024 had 291 players

2025 had more than 700 on the first fucking day.  Anyone who thinks this is in any way good for college sports is a fucking goon.

There's a lot of shit broken/ impure about college sports.  I celebrate the transfer portal's contributions.

I don't think it's meant to be good for college sports. I think the purpose is to give student athletes the same freedoms as fellow students to transfer to another school if they want, along with the same freedoms as the coaching staff and administration that are employees of the university.

The damage done to college sports is collateral.

Any restraint of trade regarding student athletes is seen as fair game for the court system at this point. People are complaining about the portal window. Those people should be grateful we still have a window. There's no reason why the NCAA can't be sued for not keeping the portal open year round. It's highly unlikely they'd let it go to court, because they're no longer willing to allow anything to go to court.

Waiting for the day when a player says “if you don’t pay me I’m gonna go straight to the other sideline and play for them”

I agree that players need to be paid and don’t think there should be a salary cap, but some structure is needed

he’s got the potential to be an important player on a tourney team, and for me he’s got the floor to be an exciting role player off the bench at a place like oregon. i wish him well.
