There's a deadline to enter the portal, but is there a deadline to sign elsewhere? I assume not, so there will be 1000+ players looking for a roster spot between now and August? Just pure fucking insanity.

Deadline would be when you have to enroll for classes. So yeah, basically

Some schools don’t start until mid September and then there is always January enrollment for injury replacement players who are still in the portal.

This is pretty crazy for a program like Baylor with their coach and recent history, but also fuck Baylor.

Couldn't happen to a better group of self-righteous rape-enabling fucksticks.

It's not insanity, it's excellent. Adults are now able to freely move and determine their own path. Many will make terrible decisions, many will find better situations. You know, like every other person in the country.

Sorry you don't get to cheer for the same guys dribbling a basketball. The best part to me is that everyone cries and wails during transfer season then gives absolutely zero shits once the season starts and they realize they're actually just cheering for the uniform.

And yes, the fact that dirty ass Baylor could lose their entire roster (odds are at least a couple come back) isn't a bug, it's a feature.

Agreed

I honestly don’t care about players transferring. You’re a grown ass adult, you can do whatever you want. You want to leave your job at Dell and go to Apple? Do it! It’s your life!

I think the people getting upset are those whose team it impacts when that player leaves. Also, people’s pride gets damaged because “how could you leave my university?!?! Everyone loves my university, why don’t you???”

i agree with everything else you said, but i really do miss growing up and watching the same group of guys grow and develop together. i’ll always miss that.

that said, watching teams grow and jell over a period of years hasn’t been a thing for like a decade anyway (the last team i felt that way about was the felix, holland, ibeh, lammert, taylor, yancy team), so i’ve already had to get over that anyway. so yeah, im with you. it’s not only what right and fair for the players, but it’s also going to make for some great ncaa tournaments full of stacked teams packing every S16 and beyond. it’s undoubtedly a positive paradigm shift, even if it still needs some tweaking.

As a yute, I got 3 years of Oljuwon at UH.  that shit ain't likely to ever happen again.

My school has lived and died by the transfer portal.

Darrion Williams might be gone, might not be.  i hope he goes pro or stays in LBK.  He is a 5* rated player, and rightly so.

we have since gottne commitments from four different 4* transfers, while having 5 players in the portal, one of whom is also D5.

I started living with it when Beard was still in LBK, even on the Final4 run, that doesn't happen, sans the transfer portal.  Embrace it.  Trust your coaches.

I do and will miss developing guys in your own system and then watching them become what you hoped, but now that BYU is actually a major player in the new system I'm having way more fun than ever being in the mix. We actually benefit from paying players being out in the open now, rather than the under the table stuff of yesteryear, as we have money and are willing to spend it when it's all above board.

Also, Kevin Young arrived from the NBA with no college coaching under the old ways baggage. He's used to the money and mercenary ways of the NBA. He came in and immediately put a system and coaches in place to deal with new environment. His older brother, Justin Young, who is director of recruiting spent two decades in recruiting and media, primarily focused on high school and college basketball. He was the co-owner and editor-in-chief of HoopSeen.com. Prior to that, he worked for Rivals.com and Yahoo! Sports, serving as the national basketball editor and a contributing editor, respectively. All that guy does is monitor for talent and gems. I imagine lots of college coaches used to the old system really struggling to adapt to this new world (like Baylor losing every single player and having to rebuild a whole roster in one offseason!).

It's a new era for BYU when players are leaving BYU for Georgia and Virginia to get more playing time. I do miss things about the old ways, but BYU is benefitting far more in the new world. I imagine this annoys traditional bluebloods that didn't have to worry about the likes of BYU before and deal with another competitor for talent. Going forward, I expect us to make the stacked group of S16 every year. I'm lovin it.
