I’m on the north side of the street opposite neighbors who have several massive live oaks (I have none), so the south wind always pushes the leaves up against the curb on my side of the street.

i used to blow them back across the street but that was useless. I tried the aforementioned mowing/mulching on the asphalt. Also mostly useless.

every now and then a nice downpour pushes a fair amount into the storm drain down the street but usually barely enough to put a dent.

now I just leave em until the street sweepers come through which could be tomorrow. Or could be June.

I would have to empty that thing about 150 times to do my yard.

Regarding leaf blowers: my neighbor pays for a lawn service to come and take care of his yard. We both have many trees. Their solution is to blow all of his leaves onto my yard.

I am aware of one small town that uses these to pick up leaves from the sidewalk/street, weekly in spring and fall.

They take them to a nearby small town and then drive through the streets letting them loose.  But the joke is on them because they just blow back to the first town.

Leaves are really pretty much a zero sum game.

Swam in the Comal this morning and the city worker blew leaves and trash into the river. That’s fine when river is at 300 cfs, but now it’s at 65 cfs. The leaves just hang on the surface.  I threw the trash back out and the kind couple on their walk picked it up

I’m sure the city was happy with the uncluttered park and who cares about the quality of the river in New Braunfels. Nobody ever comes to NB to see the rivers.

leaves rant: I had a neighbor constantly dispose of her leaves and grass clippings in the storm sewer off her curb. And while a blade of grass or a leave does not change the storm sewer capacity, I don't think it was meant to be used in that way.

I do a combination of mowing/mulching in the backyard, and in the front, blowing into the street, then against my own curb

Are we still talking about yardwork?

You ever think about about taking a shit on the windshield of his car every time they pull that stunt? Or his front porch? Or his wife? Maybe just confront him about it? All I'm saying is you have options.

They do this for Fall leaf pickup in our area.

She was probably on that flight recently that had to land early because everyone was flushing towels and clothing and stuff in the lavatory.

They use modified version of those to extricate and relocate prairie dogs

No. Dude brings me exotic beer from his travels and, actually, I don't care at all about leaves.

Because of where our house sits in relation to prevailing winds and leaf-dropping season, our street curb catches a shit ton of the neighborhood leaves. Before I mow, I blow those leaves from the curb up into the yard, so that hopefully the mower will suck up most of them (I usually bag). Also I blow them off the front porch into the yard before mowing.

On days when I edge, I blow those grass clipping from the sidewalk into the yard so that the mower will suck those clippings up.

But yeah, most of the people on our street that have lawn services don't have them collect the leaves, they just blow them out into the middle of the street and that makes me ragey.

we used a 55 gallon barrel of water and .22LR

Ranchers hated them to no end as valuable livestock and multiple deep holes in the ground were not a great combo.  We had a colony on our place back in the day that I used to terrorize.

These days, especially the protected Black Tail prairie dogs, you have to get creative.

In my old neighborhood we live oaks between sidewalk and curb.  Grass and leaves, et al... were handled by landscape crew through HOA.  My yard had bur oaks\red oaks\pin oaks(?) with acorns the size of golf balls as were most of the trees in peoples front yards.  The HOA crew was notorious about just blowing leaves into peoples yards.  I typically mowed over the live oak stuff.  However, when the neighborhood trees started leafing, nothing got done until there was no leaves in any trees within a 2 block radius of my house.   It seemed like every leafed leaf ended up in my yard.   I had a leaf blower\mulcher combination from WORX.  Each year, over my Christmas vacation, I would put aside 2 days to pick up acorns and to blow leaves and mulch that shit up.

Now, I live in a neighborhood across the road from there.  I have two live oaks that are about 6 years old which is about the age of all the houses on my cul-de-sac.  So, leaves aren't that big of a deal anymore  I do get triggered when I get the occasional broad leaf in the yard from neighbors trees but nothing like what I used to deal with.

These days, when I go to visit my daughters in the old 'hood, I laugh at all the leaves in everyone's yard and mutter 'fuck you trees'...

In my experience the holes are a nuisance but not a problem. The days of riding horseback to chase a stampede are more or less over. The burrows even aerate the soil and give owls and snakes a home. However the prairie dogs chew the grass down to the ground so they can see predators, and it’s pretty easy to lose a surprising amount of grazing ground to the flea-covered bastards in a very short time.

They are now.  Back in day you had prairie dog towns that stretched for miles, so obviously ranchers and state officials went ham on them, especially horse ranchers (as my folks were).

I think they're cool as hell. Folks used to live not too far from the UTPB campus in Odessa, and they have their own town and they are the FATTEST damn things you have ever seen.  They're all just lounging around, barking at people and each other

I did see a burrowing owl one time in my life in the wild when I was younger near the old dog town.  Dude just popped up, did his little wide-eyed head bob, and then disappeared back into the hole.
