But, because you made me think of it, I will reminisce.  Back then, following Texas Baseball was a bit harder than it is today.  I was still a student, a law student, so going to games was readily available, but news coverage not so much.  The Daily Texan was a bit hit or miss with box scores, and news of things like the CWS also a bit hit or miss,  especially given that DT was running on summer staff by June.

Add in the fact that I was taking first-year exams in May, I was pretty unplugged.

Nevertheless, I was aware of the championship series/game against Wichita State, but completely unaware that it was a single game championship.  So I tuned in and watched and was completely bumfuzzled that it seemed to be over after one game.

That game is still a sore point with me.  Fucking CBS pressured NCAA into to having one game for the NC. Consequently, Texas got royally fucked because they didn’t have any CWS loses but played bad in that one game.

“OSU orange” time to get the eyes checked

Sometimes cataracts and untreated eye herpes can distort the perception of colors and shades. Let’s hope our friend gets some ointment/meds to clear up his issues.

…and if I recall correctly, Kirk Dressendorfer would have been ready to go in what should have been Game 2…which of course we’d have won Whatever-0

From what I recall WSU had their #1 pitch in that game too.

The thing about that 1989 title game is that nobody expected it to be played that day.

Yes, I there and it poured rain all morning, under normal circumstances it would have been postponed.

However, CBS was going to carry the game live at noon, but only if it was played that day.

So, of course it was played and yes if it had been the next day, Dressendorfer would have been the starting pitcher.

The big matchup of the Series was when Texas and Dressendorfer faced LSU and Big Ben McDonald, Texas shelled him, and he was knocked out in the 4th inning to win. Dress wasn't sharp either, but Bryan Dare came in and closed it out.

Coach Gus asked Dressendorfer if he could go, and he said he couldn't yet.

Scott Bryant had to start instead and was wild, Dare had to come in and get out of the inning. Texas made like three errors and fell behind and never recovered.

The first inning was a killer as Texas led off the game with back-to-back singles, but David Tolleson got picked off first on of all things the fake to third and throw to first play and Texas didn't score.

The uniforms looked good though.

The two Texas players at the start of this video were actually guys that didn't play that much, Curry Hardin a pitcher #13 and backup catcher Eddie Toledo #35. Maybe that's why Gus let them do it.
