This is largely a post-pandemic thing.  In a very short period of time, it became all the rage to bring your damned dog with you EVERYWHERE.  Dude, I'm a dog person, had dogs most of my life....but WTF?  No, you don't need to bring your dog to the goddamned grocery store.  And the Jiffy Lube.  And the coffee shop.  And the dry cleaners.  And fucking everywhere else.  I don't much care about some of those, but 1) we don't need dogs all over where food is sold and prepared, and 2) not all people love your precious Mr. Fluffywumps as much as you do.  Some people have a phobia, or an allergy -- maybe think of them.  They shouldn't have to wonder whether they are walking into a situation with a dog they are afraid of (I'm not one of them, I think it's "silly," but it's real) when they go to buy their groceries.

Now I have to buy a Caucasian Shephard and go to Kroger.

It's not photoshop, friends. This is a Caucasian Mountain Dog. : r/pics

Well, leaving a young child at home is frowned upon up to a certain age.

There is also that whole "teach them how to act like a functional human being in public" element that just doesn't apply to dogs, no matter how much dog people want to pretend like they're the same thing as human children.  I say this as the parent of two human children and multiple dog children.   I love them all, but if the house is burning down and there is only time to save two of them, the human kids are making it out. Yes, kids in public can be a much bigger pain in the ass than some dogs, but tough shit.  They have to learn.  The dog might enjoy going to Home Depot and pissing on the weed eaters, but there is zero societal benefit for such behavior.  Letting kids go to Home Depot and piss on the weed eaters and learn that it's wrong is the only way we get adults who don't piss on the weed eaters at Home Depot.

They aren't the same thing. Dogs are much easier to train than children. My dogs knew not to shit inside shortly after being taken away from their mothers. Children are still shitting their diapers until after they're two.

Welcome anywhere, anytime.

What's the saying....if I win the lottery I'm not telling anyone, but there will be signs....

First time I saw this was as a little kid at the Coleman Livestock Rodeo.  Monkey; which is of course tied to the dog, was starting to slip sideways, so they tried to straighten him up and he tried to bite the trainer.  Announcers had a good time with that.  Monkey was pissed.

Not trying to get CR here but I’m surprised nobody has hijacked this issue by saying that including “service” dogs in grocery stores is DEI and it should immediately be abolished.

Kids are more likely to get you sick than dogs. Just saying. I have dogs, but I don't take them everywhere. I don't want to expose them to all the horrible people in the world.

Put them in a kennel when you have to go out.

Still better than your shitty kids.

Well, one of my kids did pour out dish soap all over HEB as a toddler one time which resulted in a situation like this for an old in the store.

But seeing dogs pissing in the playground mulch is disheartening, even as my kids are aging out.

In the past month at a couple of Austin public parks, I've seen a big-ass off-leash labradoodle whatever knock a kid down hard onto the concrete because he wanted to play with the kid (the kid did not know the dog or the owner). I've seen what looked to be a part-boxer off the leash, jump on old dog (on a leash) who couldn't walk well and the owner of the old dog lost her shit (and rightfully so) and was filming the asshole owner and going to identify him and call the cops, etc. (somebody helped her ID the guy since he lived a few blocks over). I've seen off-leash dogs shit in the toddler areas and the owners were assholes about picking it up. I've seen off-leash dogs start two different fights.

A bunch of insufferable assholes who for some reason can't use a fucking leash when there are signs all over about using a leash, are going to hopefully ruin things for all dog owners and start getting dogs banned from some parks or something.

I will say there is a small group of people who have been filming the off-leash owners in public parks and identifying them. I don't know what they plan on doing with it, but they are at least quietly filming the assholes and one mentioned putting their shit on blast on social media, as well as going to the city with a list of names, how bad the problem is, etc. and I wish them well.

Probably tree fiddy in Buddy Bucks. This actually took place at the HEB in the reddit article which is my local HEB. My kid was a member of the high school baseball team that went to the 6A State tournament so he made up for his crimes at the Spring Branch HEB by bringing glory to Spring Branch. They are also the current 5A D1 state champions in football.

Bitches?  Mr. Tate, do you call them that because they get revolted by your dogs peanut butter encrusted face (breath)?

I'd pay to watch that slap fight between self-centered entitled asshole cyclist and self-centered entitled asshole dog owner in the aisles of HEB

It's getting worse.  There are a lot of dog owners who are entitled as shit and are basically daring people to call them out.

But the bigger problem is they are causing problems for people with legitimate service dogs in two ways - number one, they are pissing a lot of us off at dogs in general, and number two, too many are pretending that their precious little shit stains are somehow service dogs with their bullshit Temu-quality dog vests.  Again, self-entitled assholes who just want attention, but they are making it hard for people with legit dogs because if the label "service dog" means nothing, it hurts legit service dogs.

The State of Texas needs to step in and require all service dogs to be verified, and the owner issued a "this is a legit service dog" card for identification, complete with a picture and description of the dog. Make it cheap or free. It sucks that owners of true service dogs would have to take the time to go through the verification process, but this is the very definition of why we can't have nice things.

The folks who let their dogs off leash where they shouldn't be are nothing but human trash.  It's amazing how common it is.

I love my dog. I hate bringing my dog anywhere that isn't a park.

I don't even like taking him on a hike because he's old and slow and pees every 5 feet.

Love this idea, but I won't hold my breath waiting for Texas to "regulate" anything that doesn't involve bathrooms, women's health, or ensuring children aren't educated properly.

I take my pup to Home Depot all the time, but shes well behaved, trained, and i prepare in advance to ensure no accidents indoors (like a fucking adult).

Glad she's not a psycho dog, but sincere question: why do you need or want to take the dog to the store?

Other than her helping pick out the best riding mower of course.

In general as Brisket mentioned, dogs can stress out others but that's never in an owner's equation it seems. Dogs are out of control and suck usually because their owners can't control them, and suck.

I don't have a dog phobia but I've been bitten at a former condo because the owner couldn't be bothered to control his dog and it ran up, while on a long leash, and bit my leg. Wife got bit while walking into a convenience store by someone who brought their dog there.

For people who argue "dogs are the same as kids" -- I feel sorry for their children. Or them maybe for how their parents treated them.

Just like any activity with kid, any activity outside of walks/the park with a dog just feels like you mentally ran a marathon
